mod_v8 pushed to git master!
by Peter Olsson 14 Jan '14

14 Jan '14

Hello everyone! I've finally pushed the new JavaScript module that uses Google's V8 library to git master. The current state should be that it builds on Linux and Windows. The Windows version only has VS2012 project files so far though. I will try to fix a VS2010 version as well, but I don't have that version, so I'd appreciate some help if possible. I've enabled mod_v8 in build/modules.conf.in, so for a new git clone it should be built by default. I'm not sure if the core devs want it enabled instantly, so please change this if needed. In Visual Studio 2012 mod_v8 is enabled to be built by default also. The first time mod_v8 is built it will download a tarball for V8, and build the library. It will take some extra time, but when the lib is built it will be reused as most other libs inside FS. In Windows one more tarball will be downloaded as well, holding support files for making Windows build possible (python and cygwin). So far I've not tested all features in mod_v8 - but I have done some basic testing on maybe 90% of the features. If any problem occur, please file a Jira, and if possible, attach the script that causes the problem. I will make sure to take care of these issues as soon as possible. If some Linux build related issues occur, file to Jira as well - but I might ask for help, since I'm not really a pro on the Makefile stuff :) The features of mod_v8 should be exactly the same as mod_spidermonkey. Though the built-in support for XML and File JS classes doesn't exist in V8 (as in Spidermonkey). I've created a new XML implementation class built upon the XML parser inside FS (I will upload some docs on the wiki for that one in a near future), and I've created the basic structure for a File class, but it's not yet implemented. The FS specific FileIO class does exist as before though. I'd really appreciate if as many as possible of you test the new module. I have only one lab phone at home, so performance testing is quite hard for me to do :) The things I feel I've not tested enough is the Session object (when executed from dialplan for some IVR), and performance plus memory management. Regarding memory management there might be some tweaks that must be added, so V8 doesn't wait too long to execute its GC. /Peter

Google Summer of Code
by Tobias Andersen 08 Jan '14

08 Jan '14

Hello! I was thinking about registering a project to Google Summer of Code, namely a predictive dialer (it is software used by call centers that minimizes idle time) and was wondering if there are any interested mentors? In that case, please let me know so that I can register this project, or maybe you have a better idea. Sincerely, Tobias

freeswitch.spec
by Nuno Reis 22 Dec '13

22 Dec '13

Hi guys. I would like to include the perl ESL and lua ESL mods in the RPMs. I'm trying to tweak the freeswitch.spec, but still getting some errors. Does anyone have a updated spec for that or know exactly what to do to include these mods in the RPMs. Python ESL is the only one being included right now. Looking forward to hear from you. freeswitch on a new i.mx6 device (arm cortex a9)
by Frank W. Miller 17 Dec '13

17 Dec '13

Greetings, I've been working on a new ARM based system (Freescale i.MX6Q Quad Core Cortex A9) device. I'm thinking of trying to get Freeswitch working on the box. The system has only a single GbE, 4 USB ports and a serial connection for connectivity. Would this be something useful? If so, any suggestions on applications would be welcomed. I will try to compile this natively. www.cornfedservers.com if you want full specs on the device. Thanks, FM

Memory Leak in mod_sofia
by David Sanders 17 Dec '13

17 Dec '13

I've been trying to track down and kill a memory leak which is occurring in mod_sofia/Sofia-SIP. The leak was first spotted under 1.2.0 and confirmed to still exist in 1.2.14 (latest when it was tested about a month ago). Two JIRA bugs were submitted as part of this hunt, FS-6005 and FS-6006. The issue improved on 1.2.0 after the patches for those two bugs, but showed no difference on 1.2.14. The leak only seems to occur under heavy load (i.e. production traffic), but will produce several leaks within 24 hours of a FS restart. Gory details follow. Things known about the leak: * The leaked memory is a nua_handle_t struct, and the associated structs which are free'd properly if the nua_handle_t doesn't leak * The box running FS is a CentOS 6.3 machine, Linux kernel version 2.6.32-279 * Leak can be analyzed on an idle FS server using GDB + a modified version of gdb-heap (an extension for GDB for viewing the heap) * Once leaked memory is identified, it can be printed with GDB as the nua_handle_t struct and data can be gleaned from it After the patches mentioned above, 1.2.0 has several handles leaked, all with a sofia_dispatch_event_t struct in their memory pool, indicating a 100 BYE Trying event. Since this event was never processed (and free'd) it never decremented the ref count on the handle. The handle is marked as destroyed, so the ref count is the only thing keeping it around. On 1.2.14, it acted the same prior to FS-6006's patch. After that patch was applied, the leak mutated. The idle box lists no calls and no channels, but the leaked handles are not marked as destroyed, have nh_active_call=1, and have a ref count of 3. Prior to FS-6006 it was clear with ref trace enabled for mod_sofia that the missing unref was due to the 100 BYE Trying never being processed. I'll have to re-enable the ref trace to see why there are now 3 references left after FS-6006. Here's a Valgrind entry for the leaked memory (this is from a 1.2.14 instance): ==28083== 22,980 (1,120 direct, 21,860 indirect) bytes in 4 blocks are definitely lost in loss record 448 of 453 ==28083== at 0x4C2677B: calloc (vg_replace_malloc.c:593) ==28083== by 0xBA60CC1: su_home_new (su_alloc.c:559) ==28083== by 0xBA0D8F5: nh_create_handle (nua_common.c:113) ==28083== by 0xBA2AA2A: nua_handle (nua.c:315) ==28083== by 0xB9AAD38: sofia_glue_do_invite (sofia_glue.c:2357) ==28083== by 0xB9729CC: sofia_on_init (mod_sofia.c:108) ==28083== by 0x5138702: switch_core_session_run (switch_core_state_machine.c:424) ==28083== by 0x5134D8D: switch_core_session_thread (switch_core_session.c:1417) ==28083== by 0x596C850: start_thread (in /lib64/libpthread-2.12.so) ==28083== by 0x6AEB11C: clone (in /lib64/libc-2.12.so) I've exhausted my ability to debug the issue, and could use some help from the FS maintainers/community in killing the issue. The leaked memory, while small, appears to cause rather large performance problems for the FS instance if allowed to accumulate. - David P.S. I'll be on the freeswitch-dev IRC channel if anyone would like to discuss more details of the leak.

Freeswitch auto redialing
by Jason Sia 16 Dec '13

16 Dec '13

Hi, I have a freeswitch server where it connects the user to a voip provider so it terminates to a mobile phone. There are some intermittent scenarios that are happening. 1. If A calls B , B answers after some time A ends the calls. Sometimes it automatically redials and calls B several tiimes like 8 times in my test. 2. If A calls B, B declines auto redialing also happens. Is there a configuration in freeswitch to avoid this?

Re: [Freeswitch-dev] Freeswitch packaging for Raspberry Pi?
by Hans Bakker 15 Dec '13

15 Dec '13

Hi all, I'm searching for precompiled Freeswitch binaries for the Raspberry Pi. I found http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Debian_packages_buildscript and I've seen some attempts in this thread http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/FreeSWITCH-on-Raspberry-Pi-Op…. Also I found some blogs explaining how to compile Freeswitch from source (manually or using the Fusionpbx script). However it would be much more convenient to have packaged binaries, to be able to install module packages instead of having to build them again, and to be able to quickly update the software. Could you please tell me whether there are any plans of automating Freeswitch packaging for the Raspberry Pi? Kind regards, Hans 2013/11/7 Hans Bakker <hansmbakker(a)gmail.com> > Hi all, > > I'm searching for precompiled Freeswitch binaries for the Raspberry Pi. > I've seen some attempts in this thread > http://freeswitch-users.2379917.n2.nabble.com/FreeSWITCH-on-Raspberry-Pi-Op…. > Also I found some blogs explaining how to compile Freeswitch from source > (manually or using the Fusionpbx script). > > However it would be much more convenient to have packaged binaries. > > Could you please tell me whether there are any plans of packaging > Freeswitch for the Raspberry Pi? > > Kind regards, > > Hans >
