by Brian West 20 Feb '14

20 Feb '14

Heads up you’re about to be flooded with JIRA emails, I’m trying to poke everyone to respond and help fill in the blanks, update patches and help the process thats clearly been too slow move faster. If you have questions please feel free to reply to me or the list. Step one is to clear out the riff raff! ;) Anyone wishing to be a Bug Marshal and assist in replicating, gathering data please let me know our Friday call this week is going to be going thru everything from the created date till now, I’m finding things where the features asked for were done already and the JIRA wasn’t updated / resolved. JIRA Issues
by Brian West 19 Feb '14

19 Feb '14

FreeSWITCHers, Over the next few weeks I’m going thru the back log of JIRA issues filed. If you’ve filed something and its incomplete or needs additional information and hasn’t been responded to in the past 180 days it will be closed as such, feel free to re-open if you can provide more info or comment that the issue has been resolved. I’ve noticed a large number of issues being filed with incomplete data, terse descriptions. Do not reference the words ‘odd’, ‘weird’ or ‘strange’ in any bug report. If the issue wasn’t odd, strange or weird you probably wouldn’t be opening a ticket in the first place. Please keep descriptions clear and attach complete logs from start to finish of the issue happening along with relevant revision information, config settings such as dial plan or other changes to the config files that may contribute to your issue you’re filing. If the issue is something that you can’t quite replicate or aren’t sure don’t post to the list yet, file a JIRA with the relevant information and then reference that JIRA when you post to the list, You’ll find this will probably work out faster for you and makes sure we don’t lose the report in the sea of emails on the list. Do not attach core files, gzip’ed log files or anything that can’t be read properly from a mobile devices web browser. If we check JIRA on our phones (we do this a lot) when we are out and about and its frustrating when you try to read something and you can’t do so with ease. I was serious about dropping support for OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD (its on its last get almost), The response to maintainers has underwhelming and not many people are interested or state they do not have the skill set required to accomplish the task. If you need help I’m pretty sure we can get Richard Neese to assist you as he used to maintain those ports in the FreeBSD tree and they’ve expired and were removed because they would no longer build. Remember if you don’t even try you can’t fail… so what do you have to lose? ;) Remember we had to start somewhere to learn this auto goop you use for cross platform build systems. I would love to see complete support for OpenBSD/NetBSD and FreeBSD and anything else that you wanna toss in but we need your help to maintain, test and continue supporting those platforms. I’m going to be sorting thru these JIRA reports, data points and all facts required and design a tool set that we can deploy that will help you collect all the information required for a bug report so that we can work the issues faster, its going to take me a few months to wrap my head around an approach we can use in production environments that makes sense. The entire team will be on the Weekly call again tomorrow I would love to discuss this and the ICMP/MTU issue a little tomorrow too. As always feel free to respond and get involved. ATTENTION: If you have patches pending in JIRA please make sure they apply cleanly to MASTER, and update if needed so we can work thru testing them faster. OpenBSD compatibility
by Nathanael Rensen 15 Feb '14

15 Feb '14

I noticed Brian's request for help with OpenBSD support. I've been using FreeSWITCH on OpenBSD since 1.0.6 and for my simple soft-switch usage it works very well. I have a general question about linking. For the customised versions of libraries used by FreeSWITCH, I prefer to create libtool convenience libraries and statically link into libfreeswitch.so or mod_xxx.so rather than install shared libraries which have the potential to become confused with OS supplied libraries. Mostly this means replacing lib_LTLIBRARIES with noinst_LTLIBRARIES in various automake Makefile.am files. For example: ------------------ diff --git a/libs/curl/lib/Makefile.am b/libs/curl/lib/Makefile.am --- a/libs/curl/lib/Makefile.am +++ b/libs/curl/lib/Makefile.am @@ -38,7 +38,7 @@ EXTRA_DIST = Makefile.b32 Makefile.m32 Makefile.vc6 Makefile.r iscos \ CLEANFILES = $(DSP) $(VCPROJ) -lib_LTLIBRARIES = libcurl.la +noinst_LTLIBRARIES = libcurl.la # we use srcdir/include for the static global include files # we use builddir/lib for the generated lib/config.h file to get found ----------------- Some modification to LIBADD variables is also required to avoid including the same objects multiple times. Would the project be receptive to this approach? Based on this approach and also including various OpenBSD compatibility fixes I have created demonstration OpenBSD ports for both FreeSWITCH 1.2.22 and the master branch: http://members.iinet.net.au/~nathanael/OpenBSD/freeswitch-openbsd.tgz Those ports have been tested on OpenBSD-current (5.5-beta). They should work on OpenBSD 5.5. All default modules are built, excluding mod_v8, but I have only tested the limited subset I use. The tarball includes patches against the FreeSWITCH git repo: v1.2.stable branch (at 5bddc33113a319825c23201ccd0bd981ff47aed1) master branch (at bfd1a5a9dc2949ebd9efbcad098f74201ce1e569). I have confirmed that FreeSWITCH still compiles with default modules (including mod_v8) on debian wheezy x86-64 with the master diff applied. It's an intrusive diff but if the convenience library approach is a bridge too far then hopefully some of the less intrusive OpenBSD compat bits can still be cherry picked. Nathanael

Transcoding a sound bite.
by Kevin Snow 14 Feb '14

14 Feb '14

I’m trying to write a function that will open a sound file in PCMU format and transcode it to G722. My function is based on the fs_encoder.c file from FreeSWITCH itself. It works, sort of. It does successfully create a playable G722 file, but it plays back at 2X the speed as the PCMU and sounds like Alvin & the Chipmunks. The G722 file is also about half the size of the PCMU but I expected them to be about the same. Other snippets we have in both PCMU and G722, that play correctly, are about the same. I’ve tried changing the rates around in but nothing seems to work. Below is the code, anyone see my bug? Thanks in advance, Kevin #include <switch.h> #include <switch_version.h> void fs_encode(int argc, char** argv, switch_stream_handle_t* stream) { switch_status_t status; switch_memory_pool_t* pool = NULL; switch_file_handle_t fh_input = { 0 }; switch_file_handle_t fh_output = { 0 }; int channels = 1; uint32_t rate = 8000; int ptime = 20; int bitrate = 0; const char* input = "/etc/freeswitch/conf/sounds/three.PCMU"; const char* inFormat = "PCMU"; const char* output = "/out.G722"; const char* outFormat = "G722"; switch_codec_t inCodec = { 0 }; switch_codec_t outCodec = { 0 }; const char* fmtp = ""; int blocksize = 0; char readBuf[2048]; switch_size_t len = sizeof(readBuf)/2; char decode_buf[2048]; uint32_t decoded_len = 0; uint32_t decoded_rate = 0; char encode_buf[2048]; uint32_t encoded_len = 0; uint32_t encoded_rate = 0; unsigned int flags = 0; switch_core_new_memory_pool(&pool); stream->write_function(stream, "Opening input file %s\n", input); status = switch_core_file_open(&fh_input, input, channels, rate, SWITCH_FILE_FLAG_READ | SWITCH_FILE_DATA_SHORT, NULL); if( status != SWITCH_STATUS_SUCCESS ) { stream->write_function(stream, "Couldn't open input file %s. bypass media after bridge not getting applied when using intercept app from within LUA script
by Jyotshna Cherukuri 14 Feb '14

14 Feb '14

Hi , I am setting "bypass_media_after_bridge" on both the channels and'm using intercept app to bridge two sessions which are part of 2 separate LUA scripts . However I don't see FreeSWITCH issuing Re-Invites once the calls are bridged together . Just wondering if there is any other way to go peer-to-peer once the intercept app is called from LUA script? I even tried calling uuid_media off from LUA script but it didn't seem to work . B-leg side of the script: session:setVariable("bypass_media_after_bridge","true"); if ( session:ready() ) then session:answer(); end session:execute("intercept", aleg_uuid); api:execute("uuid_media off",aleg_uuid); Thanks in advance Regards Jyotshna

FreeSWITCH 1.2.20...err umm 1.2.21 Released
by Ken Rice 12 Feb '14

12 Feb '14

Hey FreeSWITCHers! The FreeSWITCH Team is Proud to Announce FreeSWITCH 1.2.21. Early this week Anthony tracked down a slight problem with Sofia that could lead to memory corruption. This lead to us cutting and getting 1.2.20 ready to go on Monday. Debian and Centos6 packages we moving along just fine, however Centos5 was being a bit problematic. Took us a little bit to track that down, but a Chris Rienzo contributed a patch that took care of a small bit of code that gcc on Centos5 didn¹t like. Other updates from 1.2.19 include: Updates to TLS/SSL code for better dection of the libs and allow some better options for selecting cipher suites Updates to mod_rayo Updates to Sofia TCP handling deletion retired project support code for svn that has not been used in ages Along with several other issues... Source tarballs are available at http://files.freeswitch.org/freeswitch-1.2.21.tar.bz2 (gz, xz, and zip can be found here also) Debian and Centos packages are available via the FreeSWITCH project repos as usual. -- Ken http://www.FreeSWITCH.org http://www.ClueCon.com http://www.OSTAG.org irc.freenode.net #freeswitch Twitter: @FreeSWITCH

yeppp
by Tamas Jalsovszky 09 Feb '14

09 Feb '14

Hello, I've just found an interesting open-source project called Yeppp! which is about high performance math library. What do you think could FS gain some extra performance (e.g. codecs, tone detection, etc.) with using this lib? Jalsot
