[Freeswitch-dev] Some questions [JB, EC, etc.]
by Tamas 26 Oct '06

26 Oct '06

Hello, I'm thinking about using freeswitch as a core for a softphone and for this I would need to know some things. - Is there a plan to make a jitterbuffer for FS in foreseen future? - Is there a plan to make a software echo canceler (especially for mod_portaudio)? Packet-loss canceler? - Is it possible to use speex's echo cancelation? - Is there a plan to use the advanced features of the speex codec like VBR, quality? - Is there a plan to move to speex-1.2beta1? - RTCP for quality measurement? - Is it possible to compile everything into one binary file (elf/exe/etc.)? - How to use sRTP? I know that those are not easy questions and the paypal button might help to accelerate, I'm just curious what are the plans, thoughts, etc. Thanks in advance, Tamas

we have a jitter buffer in the core now libspeakup. we have not enabled it yet but it will not be too hard. the catch is that it was written to work with iax timestamps so for rtp you need to convert them all. The guy who made it said he may make a new version so I have been sort of waiting. The best track to follow is probably to look at re-writing mod_portaudio. They have changed their api massively so in order to benifit from future improvements we should look at using thier new code (esp if we want to work on mac right, so far the portaudio version we use cant operate any of the onboard devices on a mac only usb headsets and bluetooth headsets) the rest is all possible with ecan being the hardest (for me anyway). [Freeswitch-dev] Freeswitch capabilities
by Anton 24 Oct '06

Hi Men! Looking for an advice of using Freeswitch ove Asterisk. I'm looking for a way to bridge a lot of TDM PRI calls usind SANGOMA hardware, and I found that Asterisk just is not so capable on high volume calls (10xE1 on 5xDualPort cards) . I suppose Freeswitch should be more capable of doind so. Asterisk eats full CPU on ~80 calls with no transcoding and no echo cancel. Is Freeswitch capable to do so and if yes can it reliably interoperate over IAX2 with other servers * and Freeswitch? Would be gratefull for any advice, With best regards, Anton.

[Freeswitch-dev] Compiling dependencies inline
by Peter Nixon 22 Oct '06

22 Oct '06

Hi Guys Here is the result of building a freeswitch package with all of its dependencies inline. It confuses the hell out of rpm when you go an try to build OTHER packages that rely on those dependencies which are already provided by standard packages: Fedora_Extras_5 i586 expansion error have choice for libpcre.so.0 needed by grep: freeswitch-snapshot pcre have choice for libsqlite3.so.0 needed by rpm-libs: freeswitch-snapshot sqlite have choice for libsqlite3.so.0 needed by rpm: freeswitch-snapshot sqlite have choice for libsqlite3.so.0 needed by rpm-build: freeswitch-snapshot sqlite Now, I CAN work around this by manually specifying preferences for each of these packages in ALL of my other builds but this is really bad karma and requires me to screw around with almost 50 other packages just to have the pleasure of building freeswitch. ick.. Please please fix the build so that it will use external libs if they are available. I will happily package any external libs that are required (infact I already have done so) and can apply patches to any that need them. [Freeswitch-dev] Heads UP to devs and testers

Just FYI, I did a lot of changes lately to the code and the config. I reccommend you delete all the .db files in /usr/local/freeswitch/db to avoid a schema mismatch, just delete them they will be regenerated. It's reccommended you perodicly examine the default conf/freeswitch.xml in the source tree as it usually reflects new functionality and we try to keep it up to date with every possible config option. Also note that <interface> has become <profile> in dingaling. One last note, you will probably want to issue # make sure to guarentee all of your code is built up to date and no legacy object code is lying around in your way. Can we come visit it soon? =D The box runs Solaris/SPARC. My hacked build of FreeSwitch fails to run there. It complains about unresolved symbols from one of the libraries (I forgot which one at the moment). I need to debug it, but I'd rather just clean it up once and for all. If you can provide me with an archive of a SPARC Solaris 10 build of FreeSwitch I'd be happy to test that for you. Thanks, Roman. _______________________________________________ Freeswitch-dev mailing list Freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-dev UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-dev http://www.freeswitch.org

Like I said, I will have much more interest in the build process when I get to that point in my devel track. Meanwhile, before we optimize anything furthur in that way, I'd like to see how that 32 cpu box does in the same testing I have already performed on linux and mac with the code in the same state it already is. Can we come visit it soon? =D Anthony Minessale II FreeSWITCH http://www.freeswitch.org/ ClueCon http://www.cluecon.com/ AIM: anthm MSN:anthony_minessale@hotmail.com JABBER:anthony.minessale@gmail.com IRC: irc.freenode.net #freeswitch FreeSWITCH Developer Conference sip:888@66.250.68.194 iax:guest@66.250.68.194/888 googletalk:freeswitch@gmail.com pstn:712-432-7800 ----- Original Message ---- From: Roman Shaposhnik <rvs(a)sun.com> To: freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2006 11:01:49 PM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-dev] Compiling error - libsndfile.so On Wed, 2006-10-11 at 05:58 -0700, Anthony Minessale wrote: > Stuart, Since this is a mailing list I am going to talk to some other > people to save time on mutiple emails, excuse me a minute: > > Roman, Here is the downside to your suggestion, this guy is unhappy > just because he *thinks* we keep his code in our tree. I sort of disagree. I believe that this guys is unhappy because what we have in FreeSwitch now is kind of worst of both worlds -- we don't really want to rely on preinstalled and prepackaged libraries available on the system, yet we also don't want to bite the bullet and privatize the code. Personally, I think this is one of the greatest myth of OpenSource that all you have to do in order to build a reliable package is: ./configure && make && make install. What we currently have in FreeSwith is an attempt to rely on that. I've used to do lots of packaging for Solaris and believe me -- there's not much else I hate more than autotools complexity. :-( Anyway, it looks like my proposal doesn't really resonate with lots of folks here, which means I have to come up with extra benefits. My angle would be a performance one. Stay tuned... Thanks, Roman. _______________________________________________ Freeswitch-dev mailing list Freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/listinfo/freeswitch-dev UNSUBSCRIBE:http://lists.freeswitch.org/mailman/options/freeswitch-dev http://www.freeswitch.org

Ok I'll try this one more time. BEGIN --------------------------------------------------------- Quite simple, When our build process gets to the module building stage, each module has it's own Makefile with targets to build it's own depends. it downloads the tarball with wget and configures it to the same target prefix as all of the others. The lines you pasted reflect that the directories in the install prefix and the cwd at build time contain the word "freeswitch" and does not imply much more than that. snippit of our mod_sndfile's Makefile depends: MAKE=$(MAKE) $(BASE)/build/buildlib.sh $(BASE) install libsndfile-1.0.16.tar.gz --prefix=$(PREFIX) --disable-sqlite Like I said we only host the exact tarball on our server, checksum it if you wish: http://svn.freeswitch.org/downloads/libs/libsndfile-1.0.16.tar.gz Feel free to see for yourself if you still do not believe me. http://svn.freeswitch.org/svn/freeswitch/trunk http://svn.freeswitch.org/svn/freeswitch/trunk/src/mod/formats/mod_sndfile/ Your library is a welcome addition as a module to our software and we have had little trouble with it, thank you. If you would reccommend we use the newer version let me know: anthmct(a)yahoo.com END --------------------------------------------------------- Stuart, Since this is a mailing list I am going to talk to some other people to save time on mutiple emails, excuse me a minute: Roman, Here is the downside to your suggestion, this guy is unhappy just because he *thinks* we keep his code in our tree.
