This is all good, but I'm afraid that similarly to your Asterisk product, it's probably not going to be open source and free (as in "free beer"). I will be more than happy if I assumed wrongly. C SAY API
by Anthony Minessale 19 Dec '06

19 Dec '06

Hi, I'm working on a muiti-lingual say api for ivr programmers to be able to generate audio for saying numbers, counting items or expressing amounts of things such as currency. I'd like some input from anyone who has some ideas on how to make sure we cover all bases. The basic idea is that we will have an api where each new language/implementation would provide it's own version of this function. switch_status_t say(char *tosay, switch_say_gender_t gender, switch_say_type_t type, switch_say_method_t method, switch_input_callback_function_t dtmf_callback, void *buf, uint32_t buflen); The enums are described in http://www.freeswitch.org/eg/say_api.c the idea would be something like switch_say_handle_t *en; en = switch_say_load("en"); switch_ivr_play_file(session, NULL, "/sounds/youhave.wav", NULL, NULL, NULL, 0); en->say("1000", SSG_ANY, SSM_PRONOUNCED, SST_MESSAGES, NULL, NULL, 0); switch_ivr_play_file(session, NULL, "/sounds/msgs.wav", NULL, NULL, NULL, 0); Thoughts? Yeah, that's why we are trying to put the enum in there for what we are counting. http://www.freeswitch.org/eg/say_api.c in the say_type_t we would add SST_CHICKENS, SST_SPEAKERS, etc.... That way we have a hint how to generate the audio this finite list may be limiting but it's ok to submit patches adding more are more objects as we figure out all the differnt items that modify speech. Any elaboration on this? it seemed to be the only logical way to solve that issue but it may need more. While to the best of my knowledge, Romance languages do not have a concept of numbers matching gender with the object they are modifying, at least Hebrew (and possibly other Semitic languages) do have this concept. So if I say the "7 cars" versus "7 speakers", it comes out different - "shevA michoniyot" versus "shivAh ramkolim". Additionally, some languages might handle the order of quantity to object differently based upon the amount. Again, citing an example from Hebrew, if you say "1 speaker" the order is reversed - "ramkol eHad" (if you catch it, "ramkol" means "speaker" as in the one hooked up to your stereo). -- Yossi Neiman Cartis Solutions, Inc. - http://www.cartissolutions.com Peter Nixon wrote: <snip snip> > Unfortunately that is not the only issue however. If you break and store everything as separate words, then you'll be ignoring the intonation. I think there should be a table that maps phrases (a sequence of words) to a wave file. The matching algorithm should always try to find the longest phrase. This way you can improve the quality by simply recording additional phrases. Of course, the phrases should be language-specific. Probably there could be another function like this: say_sentence_text(""en", "voice", You have <messages>{0}</messages> new messages as of <datetime>{1}</datetime>", "10", "12/18/2006 10:00 AM"); But this is still language specific. Probably there could be another table that has the sentence pattern like above with some alpha-numeric ID (one map per language) and then the say_setence function can take either sentence ID or sentence pattern with a list of parameters like this: say_sentence("en", "voice", "vmail.new_messages", "10", "12/18/2006 10:00 AM"); Nikolay _____ From: Kannaiyan Natesan [mailto:gbpnkans@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2006 5:29 PM To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] [Freeswitch-dev] C SAY API That applies how you want it to proceed with the preprocessor. [Freeswitch-users] C SAY API

vset = LoadVoiceSet("antony","en"); do the operationg based upon this voiceset FreeVoiceSet(vset); This will be handy to handle mutliple language, multiple user customised voice prompts. I'm sure this is lacking in the existing pbx structures. The sound directory looks like, sound | |---> sequence | | | |----> language | | | |-----> en | | |----> voicemail.txt | |-----> tamil | |----> voicemail.txt | |->default | | | |-->language | | |---> en | | | |----> digits | | | | |-------> 0 ... 9 .(format) | | | | | | | |----> Words | | | |-------> you.format (you.wav, you.mp3) | | | |-------> have.format | | | ......... all possibles | | | | | |---> tamil | (same structure as above) | |->antony (same as above) Sequence Directory: It explains you what is the framing sequence of the file you want for the application. Sequence of the voice file is not same for all languages that will vary, so there is a definite need of this sequence(name it with a right word) so that it will be generic to all applications. eg., [voicemail.txt] (forvoicemail app) welcome=welcome to freeswitch voicemail system in case if I use tamil language eg., [voicemail.txt] welcome=freeswitch kuralanjal amaippirkku varaverkirathu I'm talking about this on each call basis, I mean it can take english call, tamil call, french call .... simultaneously. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.
