So I was messing with the voicemail to email and notify and ran into an "issue". It appears that you have to have vm-email-all-messages set to true and have an address in vm-mailto to send a notify. This may or may not be the intention, but it just doesn't sound right to me. I should be able to send a notify without sending an email as well. I think I found the culprit at line 1926, it is: if (send_mail && !switch_strlen_zero(email_vm) && switch_file_exists(file_path, switch_core_session_get_pool(session)) == SWITCH_STATUS_SUCCESS) { My thought was to instead say "if you have email-all and an email, or you have notify", then you are ok, which I think the below will do: if (((send_mail && !switch_strlen_zero(email_vm)) || !switch_strlen_zero(email_vm_notify)) && switch_file_exists(file_path, switch_core_session_get_pool(session)) == SWITCH_STATUS_SUCCESS) { The issue is that I kind of got lost in the logic below as to how I would change these lines. This sends an email with attach AND a notify if notify is set. If both are set, that is fine, but if only notify is set, I don't want to send an email. Line 2014: if (email_attach) { switch_simple_email(email_vm, from, header_string, body, file_path); } else { switch_simple_email(email_vm, from, header_string, body, NULL); } if (!switch_strlen_zero(email_vm_notify)) { switch_simple_email(email_vm_notify, from, header_string, body, NULL); } switch_log_printf(SWITCH_CHANNEL_LOG, SWITCH_LOG_DEBUG, "Sending message to %s\n", email_vm); I wasn't sure if I needed to say "if email_attach and send_mail and !zero(email_vm)" and then the else would be an elseif of "if email_attach and send_mail and zero(email_vm)" to make sure that I don't match either of these with only notify set. Or is there an easier way to say it to make sure I don't miss something? Also, I think the log message would be better if there was one per if/then/if so that we can see if it is with an attach, without, or just a notify. if (email_attach) { switch_simple_email(email_vm, from, header_string, body, file_path); switch_log_printf(SWITCH_CHANNEL_LOG, SWITCH_LOG_DEBUG, "Sending email with attachment to %s\n", email_vm); } else { switch_simple_email(email_vm, from, header_string, body, NULL); switch_log_printf(SWITCH_CHANNEL_LOG, SWITCH_LOG_DEBUG, "Sending email without attachment to %s\n", email_vm); } if (!switch_strlen_zero(email_vm_notify)) { switch_simple_email(email_vm_notify, from, header_string, body, NULL); switch_log_printf(SWITCH_CHANNEL_LOG, SWITCH_LOG_DEBUG, "Sending email notify to %s\n", email_vm_notify); } switch_safe_free(body); And before anybody says it, I don't have cvs commit access and I am a rookie programmer and don't want to commit something that is totally f'd up. new mISDN socket API interesting for fs?
by Patrick 04 Jun '08

04 Jun '08

Hi all, On the mISDN list Andreas Eversberg announced the new mISDN socket API: http://www.isdn4linux.de/pipermail/isdn4linux/2008-June/003455.html Could this somehow be interesting for freeswitch too? Support for HFC-S based ISDN BRI cards would be really cool since ISDN BRI is very popular in the SMB market in Europe. Get it here: http://www.linux-call-router.de/download/lcr-1.0/ Regards, Patrick

hello and question
by Matthew Kaufman 04 Jun '08

04 Jun '08

I've been watching Freeswitch as a potential user for a while now (I used Asterisk for my last telephony project, Podlinez.net) but now I have need to do some even lower-level development and it looks like Freeswitch is a better choice than Asterisk... save one thing: Where the heck is the documentation that a (C/C++) module-writer needs? I've started writing a new endpoint module, and I'm making pretty good progress by reading the source code for other modules, but I have looked and looked and can't find a good reference for "these are the switch functions that are private, these are the switch functions you call if you're an endpoint module, these are the events you'll be sent if you're an endpoint module, etc." Speaking of which, a slightly different architecture/coding style might have made the interfaces between the modules and the insides more immediately clear... but in lieu of that, a good set of docs is going to be mandatory for people in my position. As it is, I'm doing ok, but my time is very valuable and not well-spent by figuring this stuff out from the source code instead of looking at the reference docs. So, is there documentation that I just haven't found the secret link to? If there isn't, is there someone who knows this stuff who can whip up a short list of things I might need to know (especially "gotchas") as an endpoint developer to save me some time? Re: [Freeswitch-dev] Answering Machine Detection
by David Brazier 02 Jun '08

02 Jun '08

Hi Again Maybe this should have been on freeswitch-dev in the first place. After a bit more research, I see that switch_input_args_t has read_frame_callback - so maybe one could use that from an app to calculate the energy in successive frames in the same way that switch_ivr_record_file does. But I can't see any other apps that use read_frame_callback. Also, I'd need to call some switch function that takes a switch_input_args_t parameter - and those I can see like speak, playback and record all do things I don't want to do. Though perhaps I could record to /dev/null. Is there another way to get access to the media stream in an application? Anyway, I may give read_frame_callback a go, but views/hints welcome. David -----Original Message----- From: David Brazier Sent: 30 May 2008 17:59 To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Answering Machine Detection Hi All Just wanted to clarify: * Is there any means of answering machine detection in FreeSwitch (along the lines of Asterisk app_amd)? * If not, could something like that be implemented in a custom app (I'm not sure if there is sufficient access to the media stream?), or does it need to be in the core? * If in the core, switch_ivr_record_file seems like a good starting point, as it already does speech detection. I would hope I would be able to implement something starting from switch_ivr_record_file, but I didn't want to charge in at that level if it would be better done elsewhere. Any thoughts appreciated. mod-java - playAndGetDigits() prototype change
by jonathan augenstine 29 May '08

29 May '08

I was encountering some strange behavior in my IVR script. What I finally tracked it down to is that the prototype on the playAndGetDigits() method has changed. The previous prototype was of the form playAndGetDigits(int, int, int, int, String, String, byte[], String) and the new prototype is playAndGetDigits(int, int, int, int, String, String, String, String). The byte array parameter has been removed and this was the parameter that returned the DTMF digits. With this parameter removed, how do I retrieve the DTMF digits? Jonathan

Normalizing sound files
by Wasim Baig 29 May '08

We used to do the following for prompts 1. noise gate, say at -40db with a fairly quick attack 2. normalize, or use a compressor with agc 3. trim both ends silence 4. add .25 seconds of silence on both ends (may want to skip this for numbers) 5. depending on the media, you can use eq to get rid of say everything below 300hz for gsm, etc, its a good idea to boost the highs and cut the lows at this time also for crySStal clear prompts (opposite of a de-esser) this can all be automated through sox or soundforge On 5/28/08, Michael Collins <mcollins(a)fcnetwork.com> wrote: > You rock da hizzouse! > > > > ________________________________ > > From: freeswitch-dev-bounces(a)lists.freeswitch.org > [mailto:freeswitch-dev-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of Brian > West > Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 2:51 AM > To: freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org > Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-dev] Normalizing sound files > > > > http://svn.freeswitch.org/svn/sounds/trunk/en/us/callie/dist.sh > > > That script with sox shows how we do this. > > > On May 28, 2008, at 2:36 AM, Michael Collins wrote: > > When you get new prompts you mentioned that you "normalize" them so that > the sound level doesn't vary from one prompt to the next. Normalizing sound files
by Michael Collins 28 May '08

Guys, When you get new prompts you mentioned that you "normalize" them so that the sound level doesn't vary from one prompt to the next. I have a set of prompts that GM Voices recorded specifically for me, but I haven't normalized them yet. Could you let me know what process you use for this? Thanks! -MC

Minor suggestion: s/depricate/deprecate/g
by Michael Collins 27 May '08

27 May '08

FYI, Just to add a little professional polish we might want to replace "depricate" with "deprecate" since the former is a misspelling. Before I make a patch I wanted to know about stuff like this: [root@freeswitch2 include]# grep -rin "depricate" *h switch_config.h:41: * This module implements a basic interface and file format parser it may be depricated in favor of database entries switch_core.h:973:SWITCH_DECLARE(switch_hash_index_t *) switch_hash_first(char *depricate_me, _In_ switch_hash_t *hash); I don't favor mass-replacing variable names when I'm not the author. If someone out there is capable then here's a list of source files that have "depricate" in them: grep -ir "depricate" * |grep -v "Binary" src/include/switch_config.h: * This module implements a basic interface and file format parser it may be depricated in favor of database entries src/include/.svn/text-base/switch_core.h.svn-base:SWITCH_DECLARE(switch_ hash_index_t *) switch_hash_first(char *depricate_me, _In_ switch_hash_t *hash); src/include/.svn/text-base/switch_config.h.svn-base: * This module implements a basic interface and file format parser it may be depricated in favor of database entries src/include/switch_core.h:SWITCH_DECLARE(switch_hash_index_t *) switch_hash_first(char *depricate_me, _In_ switch_hash_t *hash); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "killchan", "Kill Channel (depricated)", kill_function, KILL_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "transfer", "Transfer (depricated)", transfer_function, TRANSFER_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "session_displace", "session displace (depricated)", session_displace_function, DISPLACE_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "session_record", "session record (depricated)", session_record_function, SESS_REC_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "broadcast", "broadcast (depricated)", uuid_broadcast_function, BROADCAST_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "hold", "hold (depricated)", uuid_hold_function, HOLD_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/mod_commands.c: SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "media", "media (depricated)", uuid_media_function, MEDIA_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "killchan", "Kill Channel (depricated)", kill_function, KILL_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "transfer", "Transfer (depricated)", transfer_function, TRANSFER_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "session_displace", "session displace (depricated)", session_displace_function, DISPLACE_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "session_record", "session record (depricated)", session_record_function, SESS_REC_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "broadcast", "broadcast (depricated)", uuid_broadcast_function, BROADCAST_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "hold", "hold (depricated)", uuid_hold_function, HOLD_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_commands/.svn/text-base/mod_commands.c.svn-base : SWITCH_ADD_API(commands_api_interface, "media", "media (depricated)", uuid_media_function, MEDIA_SYNTAX); src/mod/applications/mod_dptools/.svn/text-base/mod_dptools.c.svn-base: SWITCH_ADD_APP(app_interface, "reject", "Send session reject (depricated)", "Send a respond message to a session.", respond_function, "<respond_data>", SAF_SUPPORT_NOMEDIA); src/mod/applications/mod_dptools/mod_dptools.c: SWITCH_ADD_APP(app_interface, "reject", "Send session reject (depricated)", "Send a respond message to a session.", respond_function, "<respond_data>", SAF_SUPPORT_NOMEDIA); src/mod/languages/mod_mono_managed/swig/.svn/text-base/freeswitch.cs.svn -base: public static SWIGTYPE_p_HashElem switch_hash_first(string depricate_me, SWIGTYPE_p_switch_hash hash) { src/mod/languages/mod_mono_managed/swig/.svn/text-base/freeswitch.cs.svn -base: IntPtr cPtr = freeswitchPINVOKE.switch_hash_first(depricate_me, SWIGTYPE_p_switch_hash.getCPtr(hash)); src/mod/languages/mod_mono_managed/swig/freeswitch.cs: public static SWIGTYPE_p_HashElem switch_hash_first(string depricate_me, SWIGTYPE_p_switch_hash hash) { src/mod/languages/mod_mono_managed/swig/freeswitch.cs: IntPtr cPtr = freeswitchPINVOKE.switch_hash_first(depricate_me, SWIGTYPE_p_switch_hash.getCPtr(hash)); src/.svn/text-base/switch_core_hash.c.svn-base:SWITCH_DECLARE(switch_has h_index_t *) switch_hash_first(char *depricate_me, switch_hash_t *hash) src/switch_core_hash.c:SWITCH_DECLARE(switch_hash_index_t *) switch_hash_first(char *depricate_me, switch_hash_t *hash) My wife says I have to go spend time with the family now so I'll catch you guys later... -MC
