As a note... If you send an email to the mailing list DO NOT CLICK REPLY and erase the body and change the subject. Doing this causes your email to hijack a thread. Please start a FRESH email with your questions or problems. Thread hijacking is bad. Thanks, Brian West sip:brian@freeswitch.org

What would be the best method to answer a single line and simultaneously branch that line to multiple lines for ivr. Are there any examples? Thanks Bob

Massive JavaScript performance boost
by Joseph Khoury 23 Aug '08

23 Aug '08

Hi All, Brian, it was nice talking to you yesterday on the conf call. Mozilla is "getting ready to take JavaScript performance into the next tier" for FireFox with a radically innovative optimization tactic called tracing that has already produced performance improvements ranging between 20 and 40 times faster in some cases. What Javascript interpreter Does FreeSWITCH use? Is it possible to implement the new optimized engine from firefox? a 20 to 40 times faster! will make our lives much easier. This was I don't have to write modules in C, Javascript will do. What do you think?

conference.freeswitch.org via ipv6 (Testing)
by Brian West 17 Aug '08

If you have native ipv6 or a tunnel to ipv6 connectivity you can now call sip:888@[2001:470:7:ea::2]:5060 to join the freeswitch conference. I have also added to svn internal-ipv6.noload you can just cp it to internal-ipv6.xml and restart FreeSWITCH it will launch an ipv6 profile. bridge data="sofial/internal-ipv6/888@[2001:470:7:ea::2]:5060" http://www.tunnelbroker.net If you need/want ipv6 tunnels. I'll be working on ipv6 howto's over the next week. Thanks, Brian West sip:brian@freeswitch.org

Is there anyway to determine the last windows build without error? I try to download the svn and compile it with VS2008 daily and the last day I was able to get a clean build was 8/2/2008. Thanks

The Beginners Hurdle
by Robert Clayton 15 Aug '08

15 Aug '08

FreeSwitch is an incredible project and I wish I had the knowledge that the developers have in communications. But coming from the position of someone without such a background I find the lack of simple progression of working examples a deterrent to applying FreeSwitch. 500+ pages of documentation, though very useful due to the dynamics of improving code, becomes obsolete, and pages produced by highly knowledgeable persons, even though accurate, often use abbreviations and terms obvious to them providing no description or reference to any glossary. Again a large hurdle to beginners. Now perhaps I misunderstand the difficulty in developing and maintaining a progressive set of examples, as this seems to be a common problem in open-source projects. But beginners are often intimidated and loose heart as it appears that accomplished users consider this necessary technological Darwinism. Note: I find the developers helpful but have not wished to bother them with questions that may be mundane but I have not found assistance from the users group. I would be willing to attempt to develop and "maintain" a series of "working" examples (and educational explanations) with a logical progression from simple to more complex. Initially Windows would be my preferred platform but Linux requirements would next need to be addressed. If there were a single set of progressive examples that those who are willing to help perfect could focus on all users would be advantaged and questions could become more focused and less redundant. Initially I would suggest developing: 1) A list of common FreeSwitch functionality. 2) Determine the most functional implementation (Lua, Postgre SQL, etc.) 2) Develop "working" examples beginning with simple functionality incrementally adding functionality. Any patient takers?
