High System CPU Usage due to Freeswitch Application
by Arjav Parikh 03 Feb '17

03 Feb '17

Hello Freeswitch Developers, Currently I have come through an very typical issue in freeswitch when used in Cent-OS 6 or Cent-OS 7. The issue as well as its findings is explained as below: a) In freeswitch version 1.2.3 initially calls using sipp were made using 100 cps (Calls Per Second). Everything is working fine till now i.e CPU usage for User application as well System are normal. Apart from calls no other user specific tasks are performed. Now, as soon as the value of cps is changed from 100 to 150 then the CPU usage for system gets very high upto 75% - 80%. But if we make calls initially with 150 cps then no issue observed. It means when there is a change in cps then the issue is observed. This CPU usage do not get normal until freeswitch is restarted. I have observed this scenario in Cent-OS 6 as well as Cent-OS 7. Also i took trial by disabling the tickless support as well high resolution timer support in kernel as per suggested in community forums. I have also checked in Freeswitch version 1.6.10. Still no improvement observed. b) Above setup was done in Cent-OS 5.10 and no issue was observed. Everything was working properly. Kindly guide me to solve this issue as this issue is affecting the business of our organization. In case of any more detail required do let me know. Request you to consider this issue as a high priority as it can be easily regenerated. clonable repo for mod_skel package?
by A. Lester Buck III 03 Feb '17

03 Feb '17

This page says to use the mod_skel Debian package as the starting point for a new module: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/mod_skel Following the link, I get to: https://freeswitch.org/fisheye/browse/FreeSWITCH-contrib/Sevet/debian-packa… which has the folder structure and some skeleton files for a new module. It even has a Clone button. But I can't clone it because the Git URL is for SSH, and I have no login or keys registered. How do I clone the mod_skel Debian package template? Thanks, Lester --===============3129723045172403621==--

SO_REUSEPORT for RTP
by Tamas Jalsovszky 23 Jan '17

23 Jan '17

Hello, I have a few places where using a SIP (or webrtc) endpoint demands opening up the very restrictive local network firewall. Setting rtp port range would be the way to go, however usually the simple math (e.g. setting the range for 2x the number of endpoints) is still not welcomed by local network admins - paranoid ones :) My idea here is whether we could use SO_REUSEPORT in the RTP stack (I've found in sofia lib the conditional use of this option) and possibly setting a very short range for RTP or even setting only one port (I'm not sure about RTCP) as from the other side packets come from the same IP but from different port, e.g. IPclient:PortA -> IPFSserver:PortX IPclient:PortB -> IPFSserver:PortX IPclient:PortC -> IPFSserver:PortX etc. What do you think, would it be doable? If not, any other way to rapidly lower the port range to be set at the endpoint side? Regards, Jalsot

Upgrading from 1.0.6 to 1.6.x
by Chad Phillips 06 Jan '17

06 Jan '17

FreeSWITCH 1.0.6 was released on April 6th, 2010, and I’ve run it in production ever since. I wonder if anyone else has stuck with it that long? :) And now, I’ve finally completed the initial migration of my system from 1.0.6 to 1.6.x. The two main pieces of work were: 1) Updating my Lua scripts to be compatible with Lua 5.2 2) Reviewing my 1.0.6 config for breaking changes, and adding 1.6.x new features The whole thing took me maybe 3-4 hours — not bad for updating almost 7 year old software. I was particularly impressed with how little changed in the configuration of the system XML files — there were only a couple of breaking changes. I believe this is a sign that FreeSWITCH was very well designed from the beginning. So kudos to you, core devs, for architecting an awesome piece of software out of the gate. It wouldn't surprise me if my next upgrade is in 2024… :P

Function to construct a SQL "IN ()" query like switch_mprintf
by Podrigal, Aron 04 Jan '17

04 Jan '17

Hi, I would like to know if there exists any code that would solve constructing a SQL IN query. If not, I would like to contribute one. I think of implementing something ie `switch_sqlinmprintf` which would call `base_vprintf` with a callback accepting an array of char * and formatting them with '%Q' specifier. I would greatly appreciate any help or pointers on function names implementation... -- - Aron Podrigal

Debian Packaging for Arm
by Brian C. Miller 04 Jan '17

04 Jan '17

Hi! I'm running into an issue with some of the modules during the packaging process. For instance, applications/mod_abstraction gets the following error: dh_install: Cannot find (any matches for) "/usr/lib/freeswitch/mod/mod_abstraction.so" (tried in "." and "debian/tmp") dh_install: freeswitch-mod-abstraction missing files: /usr/lib/freeswitch/mod/mod_abstraction.so The file in question is in ./src/mod/applications/mod_abstraction/.libs/mod_abstraction.so, but something isn't copying or moving it to an expected destination. I don't see it listed in debian/bootstrap.sh within avoid_mods. Is there a configuration parameter or environmental variable I need to set? Thanks! -- Brian Miller

mod_verto - client side
by Tihomir Culjaga 28 Dec '16

28 Dec '16

hello, im trying to implement a minimalistic client side for verto... to include in my callcenter. i got it working but in the same itme i get a strange issue :) on incoming calls, my browser plays ringFile as defined in init function... and this is fine until i answer a call. After i answer, than terminate, the call.. for all other incoming calls the browser is not playing ringFile. If i don't answer the call, the browser plays ringFile on every incoming call until the answer. i need to refreash ( f5 ) or close and reopen the browser to make it ring again :( please can anyone give me a hint ? function init(username, password) { cur_call = null; verto = new $.verto({ login: username, passwd: password, socketUrl: $("#wsURL").val(), tag: "webcam", ringFile: "bell_ring2.wav", },callbacks); }

Sofia SIP: Addresses c= and o= changed when sending INVITE with 0.0.0.0
by Huang, Kun-Yao 20 Oct '16

20 Oct '16

Hello all, I've seen this asked a long time ago here but I could not find an answer, so trying again. I realise this is the old way of putting a call on hold, but why does sofiasip automatically change my origin and media IPs? When the address is "0.0.0.0", sofia sip changes it silently, after calling "soa_check_sdp_connection" from "offer_answer_step", while processing the o= and c= fields before sending the INVITE. I am just wondering why does "soa_check_sdp_connection" check for "0.0.0.0" as invalid, when some systems out there still use this address to signal that the call is on hold: int soa_check_sdp_connection(sdp_connection_t const *c) { return c != NULL && c->c_nettype &&c->c_address && strcmp(c->c_address, "") && strcmp(c->c_address, "0.0.0.0") && strcmp(c->c_address, "::"); } Thanks, Kun-Yao Huang

FreeSWITCH SIP Adaptive codec switching
by Philippe Duke 10 Oct '16

10 Oct '16

Hello, dear FreeSWITCH developers. Would like to ask you what we need to implement adaptive codec switching using SIP re-invites in the application. Adaptive codec switching is the codec parameters renegotiation (SIP re-invite) using network measurements of jitter and bandwidth between two legs. Would like to ask if we have a some docu defines this method. We have a lack of clients support it, but we may rely on open project to make it work. I suggest to use some kind of protocol extension to achive such behavior. -- Philippe Duke Network software engineer System-level developer NetAssist LLC Ukraine Khreshchatyk Street, 10B, office 8 AS29632 http://netassist.ua Our GitHub Repository: https://github.com/netassist-ua
