new version of vpx needed for those tracking master.
by Michael Jerris 18 Feb '16

18 Feb '16

Please note, we have updated code in master that will now require the newer version of libvpx (and anything such as libav that is linked against vpx will also need to be updated) in order to use video features. The tarball for this newer version is located at http://files.freeswitch.org/downloads/libs/libvpx2-1.5.0.tar.gz . If you are using our debian packages for dependencies, these packages are already available in the unstable repo.

multi-stream video
by Sasa Ivancev 17 Feb '16

17 Feb '16

Hi, By default, it seems that FreeSWITCH streams only the video from the active speaker. Here https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/mod_conference I found 'video-mode' parameter and tried all allowed values. The 'mux' value allows multiple parties to be showed on the video canvas at the same time, but I need to separate them on client side. Questions: 1. Is it possible to configure FreeSWITCH to send more than one separate video stream (let's say 3 streams from top 3 active speakers) from conference ? 2. In case I use 'mux' value, is it possible to extract each stream and show it in its own video element on client side ? Best regards, Sasa

mod_verto and a1-hash
by S.Mohammad Emami Razavi 10 Feb '16

10 Feb '16

Hello, I'm generating hashed password in the domain and with the username in md5. But after setting it as a1-hash param in user directory, verto user can not authenticate correctly and an error is returned from mod_verto. After all authenticating with plain username and password and without a1-hash set in user directory param, is excellent in mod_verto. Can anybody help?!

Seeking collaborators for FreeSWITCH/Lua scripting toolkit
by Chad Phillips 22 Jan '16

22 Jan '16

Looking for folks in the FreeSWITCH community who would be interested in collaborating on an open source scripting toolkit I've written for FreeSWITCH/Lua. The basic idea is to have ready made solutions to common scripting needs, so as not to reinvent the wheel. The original project was written in 2010. A lot of it still works great, and there are some design flaws that I'd like to work out in the next release. Project code is here: https://github.com/thehunmonkgroup/jester Some background and reasoning for the project here: http://xylil.com/2016/01/20/jester-freeswitch-lua-and-my-quest-for-an-aweso… If anyone is interested in helping, please let me know! Crash in v1.6.5
by Alex Balashov 02 Jan '16

02 Jan '16

Hi, I'm running v1.6.5:70b8c17, and recently ran into this crash scenario: (gdb) where #0 switch_core_session_get_channel (session=0x0) at src/switch_core_session.c:1357 #1 0x00007f955ec53ce9 in sofia_update_callee_id (session=0x0, profile=0x1a7ce80, sip=0x7f940c20b728, send=SWITCH_TRUE) at sofia.c:1086 #2 0x00007f955ec59e55 in our_sofia_event_callback (event=nua_i_update, status=200, phrase=0x7f9525d82270 "OK", nua=0x7f953c0120e0, profile=0x1a7ce80, nh=0x7f944fc705a0, sofia_private=0x7f944ef34460, sip=0x7f940c20b728, de=0x7f953c012d40, tags=0x7f9525d82260) at sofia.c:1594 #3 0x00007f955ec5f4fb in sofia_process_dispatch_event (dep=<value optimized out>) at sofia.c:1983 #4 0x00007f955ec60266 in sofia_msg_thread_run (thread=<value optimized out>, obj=0x7f955ebf5ad8) at sofia.c:2031 #5 0x00007f95625f899b in dummy_worker (opaque=0x1a732d0) at threadproc/unix/thread.c:151 #6 0x00007f95617a2a51 in start_thread () from /lib64/libpthread.so.0 #7 0x0000003acfae893d in clone () from /lib64/libc.so.6 Specifically, the crash was on an assertion that tried to dereference a null session pointer: #0 switch_core_session_get_channel (session=0x0) at src/switch_core_session.c:1357 1357 switch_assert(session->channel); However, while I am a C programmer, I don't know the first thing about FS internals and thus don't know what else to look for in this core dump so as to make a useful report. My assumption is that a check for NULL session pointer somewhere in frames 0/1 isn't really an adequate compensatory mechanism because the root of the problem lies elsewhere. I did manage to track down the definition of Sofia's 'sip_t' structure and, it looks to me like this happened while either generating a 200 OK response to an UPDATE request: (gdb) print sip->sip_request->rq_method $1 = sip_method_update And it doesn't appear to be in the course of processing a reply, because the status substructure seems blank: (gdb) print sip->sip_status $2 = (sip_status_t *) 0x0 However, I don't know how to get at the raw message buffer of the UPDATE request. Help needed with DSS/BLF LED on phones
by Varsha Agarwal 08 Dec '15

08 Dec '15

Hi, I am trying to configure a programmable key on my SIP phone as DSS/BLF. The intention is to use this key to pickup calls from a pickup group. I also want the LED of the key to turn red when there is an active call in the pickup group. Right now, I can pickup the call fine with the pickup group, but LED is not working at all. Anybody knows what could be the problem. I tried 3 different phones and they all behave the same. Thanks, Varsha

FreeSWITCHers, FS-8609 is raised to get a rough outline of a completely new config sample that will be used in 1.8, So we are reaching out to the community for input and direction, I have also created a hipchat room FS-8609 on hipchat.freeswitch.org if you wish to join in. Lets start the discussion on this topic. Thanks, -- *Brian West* brian(a)freeswitch.org *Twitter: @FreeSWITCH , @briankwest* http://www.freeswitchbook.com http://www.freeswitchcookbook.com Got Bugs? Soo you might have noticed that we got hit a burst of spam on the mailing list
by Ken Rice 22 Oct '15

22 Oct '15

Hey Guys, As you might have noticed, we just got hit with a burst of spam on the mailing list. This is something the FreeSWITCH Team takes very seriously. We have plugged the hole that let this happen. Please keep in mind that we do moderate the list to try and avoid things like this. 1) If you are a new user on the mailing lists your messages will be automatically moderated for a period of time until the list mods can reasonably determine that you are not a spam bot 2) If you spam the list you will be remoderated and all posts to the list reviewed before being allowed to go to the list. 3) Repeated offenders will be banned from the list. Thanks Ken

testers wanted for low latency voip/video conferencing qdisc
by Dave Taht 18 Oct '15

18 Oct '15

Dear Freeswitch folk: It is generally my hope that many of you have been using things like fq_codel (now the default in fedora, and many other linux derived OSes) and qos systems like the "sqm"[1] system now in openwrt, and streamboost, etc in order to improve voip and videoconferencing behavior along the edge, and beat bufferbloat. For the past 3 years we have been working on a successor to fq_codel, called "cake" - which among many other improvements like 8way set associative hashing, and less cpu use, also obeys what we know of the defined diffserv markings for voip and video conferencing - not that we think they are widely used as yet. We are finally at the point where cake can be tested more widely with an out of tree kernel module, and patches to tc. A complete technical description of cake, links the github repos, and how to install are at: http://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/codel/wiki/CakeTechnical And we hope to submit to kernel mainline after more testing gets done. We have many tests (see flent.org for the flent tool) for voip but we have yet to develop good ones for videoconferencing, and in addition to any testing of cake you can do, I would love to know how we too can add tests for that to our test suites. I had a chance last friday to come on the vuc show and talk about fq_codel, cake, bloat, etc on the latter half, and the first half was dominated by our controversial proposal to fix the edge of the internet. - but my heart is in seeing the technical fixes for better voip and videoconferencing get more widely used so we can finally deploy them! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGYZ83nq4Js http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20151014005564/en (for the letter we were talking about) And my group of bufferbloat folk plan to be on the cluecon show nov 18th. More freeswitch data to toss around - logs - packet captures - empirical evidence - anything would be great to have before then. TIA.
