[Freeswitch-dev] SIP 503 instead of 480 when fsctl pause
by Zelei Csaba 07 Apr '08

07 Apr '08

Hi all, Recently we had a scenario where a cisco router proxy calls to FS servers. If we issue fsctl pause (we would like to stop one of the proxy due to maintenance) then it send 480 SIP messages back to the cisco which hangup on the call. We tried it with 503 instead of 480 and in this case the cisco tried the next route. According to SIP rfc 480 used when "The callee's end system was contacted successfully but the callee is currently unavailable" while 503 used when "The server is temporarily unable to process the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server" Wouldn't it be better to use 503 instead of 480 when the server is goind down for maintenance? Thanks in advance, Csaba Zelei

We use primarily use Aastra in our network. We have about 150 480i's deployed and 20-30 5(3,5,7,7i's) series deployed. Definitely different than the Snom in their general feel and overall usability but that is all relative to the user. Aastra's definitely have their issues. I find that reboots are often required to get them right. Plus the firmware fixes are slow coming from the Manufacture for the mean time to resolve/repair reported issues. On the upside I find them very easy to manage (although http provision puts snom and aastra on an equal playing field) and when we conducted our initial customer feedback surveys the Aastra's had a higher rating than the Snoms. Now if we could just get either to do BLA that would be the golden ticket in my mind lol :) "Brian West" <brian(a)freeswitch.org> wrote in message news:<95680F14-7FB9-4F44-A87C-8E04BA389C61(a)freeswitch.org>... > They seem a little cheap feeling to me... I wasn't aware of that...now we'll refine what I said and rather than "if we could" I'll say "if I could" and hope the other part of the "we" will help "I" understand how to do it :) LoL long day. Anyway, Brian when your feeling a bit better and have some time would you drop me a line. Just had some stuff I wanted to run by you. The button feature does seem rather cool. I'd be interested to see how it could be applied to the numerous phone system scenarios that I encounter. Lots of potential. "Brian West" <brian(a)freeswitch.org> wrote in message news:<86F16D98-DCCF-4687-B854-0827562A05F4(a)freeswitch.org>... Snom has this really neat thing called Buttons I want to toy with shortly but can't really even think about it till 1.0 is out ;) http://wiki.snom.com/Features/LED_Remote_Control Its rather neat how it works. /b On Apr 1, 2008, at 7:02 PM, Michael Collins wrote: > Will do someday, but I need to replenish the coffers after buying > those voice prompts! :P > > -MC > > From: freeswitch-dev-bounces(a)lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-dev-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org > ] On Behalf Of Brian West > Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 3:23 PM > To: freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org > Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-dev] SLA/BLA > > Snag you a grandstream or a snom.. and run with it. > > /b > > On Apr 1, 2008, at 5:05 PM, Michael Collins wrote: > > > Since you love to play with your toys so much this won't even seem > like work! [Freeswitch-dev] SLA/BLA
by Tim Ferguson 02 Apr '08

Per Brians request here is a summary of what I hope to accomplish with SLA/BLA and FS What I hope to accomplish with freeswitch is a SLA/BLA scenario. I want extension 1000 on line1 on all phones registered with the system I want extension 1001 on line2 on all phones I want extension 1002 on line3 on all phones. Inbound call: enters system, dials extension 1000, line1 rings on all phones, a phone picks up line1 and the status on all other phones shows as inuse for line1. Outbound call: User hits line selection of their choice (1, 2 or 3) and dials an outside number. The status of the line he is using would be shown as active across all phones. Misc: Call should be able to be put on hold on one phone and picked up on another phone using the same line button. Thoughts:?? Maybe conference can be used so two phones can share a conversation with an inbound or outbound call?

That is great news Brian. I know that this would be a unique feature and is highly sought after by many companies looking to transition from traditional legacy switches to newer softswitchs "Brian West" <brian(a)freeswitch.org> wrote in message news:<85D46F33-B34C-4AAB-A99B-A0C036161716(a)freeswitch.org>... It can emulate 95% of what is needed but their are too many thing that some implementations do that just don't make sense. You can get the results he wants rather easy... i'll be toying with it. /b On Apr 1, 2008, at 4:20 PM, Michael Collins wrote: > Tim, > > In other words, you want classic key phone system behavior on your > VoIP phones with FreeSWITCH? [Freeswitch-dev] Cluecon call for Speakers.
by Brian West 01 Apr '08

01 Apr '08

Dear FreeSWITCHers, Cluecon, a 3-Day Telephony User and Developer Conference, will have its 4th Annual Conference on August 4 to 7, 2008, targeting telecommunication CEOs, entrepreneurs, software programmers and VOIP enthusiasts. I'm calling on everyone that is interested in speaking email me ASAP. If you're interested in Sponsoring Cluecon please email me as well. The conference will be staged at Hilton Garden Hotel, downtown Chicago. The event will be promoted via press release and our partner websites. This opportunity will enable your company to talk about your innovations and the technologies you use in your implementations. This is also an opportune time to create contacts in the VOIP / PBX world and to gain potential customers. Each speaker will have to choose his own topic but would have to coordinate with me on the schedules and content. Their might be a speaker who's already chose the topic you have chosen. I look forward to seeing you on August 4, 2007 in Chicago. Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH.org
