[Freeswitch-docs] Announcing switchio and the friends-of-freeswitch group on Github
by Tyler Goodlet 09 Nov '17

09 Nov '17

Hey all, This is to announce a new group a few of us ex-Sangoma people have created on Github: https://github.com/friends-of-freeswitch If any of you were familiar with Sangoma's project `switchy` this project has now been hard forked and evolved into this one: https://github.com/friends-of-freeswitch/switchio This new edition completely rewrites the core to use Python's 3.5+ new asyncio and coroutines and gets a performance boost due to dropping reliance on the ESL SWIG module. The project contains a full-blown auto-dialer and was originally built for stress testing using FreeSWICH clusters. The docs are still being updated after the recent rewrite so bear with us. Our vision for this group is to start aggregating FreeSWITCH related projects on Github into one place so as to provide a one-stop shop for community maintained tools. If anyone is interested in adding an existing project and joining the group fire us an email and we'll gladly welcome you! We'd also appreciate any opinions on or help with any of the projects if you find them useful or interesting to build-on. Currently our small crew is chatting on riot: https://riot.im/app/#/room/#freeswitch:matrix.org Most of us can also be found in the standard IRC and hipchat rooms. Thanks! Tyler Goodlet

[Freeswitch-docs] presenting ESL outbound + Java netty example
by Artyom Chernetzov 17 Oct '17

17 Oct '17

Hi! I want to share working java example of connecting Freeswitch with java using Event Socket Outbound. Example implemented on Spring Boot (for DI and config) and Netty (for transport), both popular and mature projects. Here it is: https://github.com/achernetsov/freeswitch-esl-out-netty MIT license It will be cool to see it in documentation, I think lots of Java developers new to Freeswitch search examples such as this. Best regards! Artyom.

[Freeswitch-docs] TR: [ mod_voicemail ] uuid parameter
by Enrico Vergata 30 Sep '17

30 Sep '17

Hello community, my name is Enrico Vergata (Italian but currently student in France), I'm actually involved in working on my master thesis. I've been integrated in the R&D team at Sewan Communication (maybe you can remember Florent Krieg(from the same company) who has worked with you on some DEV on freeswitch few time ago). However, getting deep in my question, I would develop a voicemail function which let me to access the voicemail to listen ONE selected message and then carry on with the normal voicemail menu etc etc. In others words, a "click to listen" function which is executed : * by a "click to call" function (originating a transfer/bridge etc etc) OR * directly by the user calling the <(#VOICEMAIL_NUMBER)*(#MESSAGE_ID)> <-- voicemail_number+STAR+msg_id In this regard I had a deep look at the code mod_voicemail.c and even if the DOC on freeswitch.org doesn't refer to it, the code provides the possibility to pass a UUID parameter when the voicemail application is called in the dialplan. Can you please clarify me the presence of this parameter? The only use I've seen is a check in to an if in the voicemail_check_main function, and for me it is not even clear. voicemail_check_main(..., ..., ..., .......) [...] if (!zstr(uuid_in) && strcmp(cbt.uuid, uuid_in)) { continue; } [...] I've modified the code in the sense when a UUID is given and this one corresponds to one of the uuid of the messages saved for the authenticated user, the user will listen the corresponding message and then the normal voicemail menu. Is it a good solution? Or I cannot use this parameter maybe because there is a functionality I've not understood? If yes, it is better provide maybe a normal id and then execute the corresponding message(after a search in the database) for the given user independently of the UUID? Please help me to understand in this case the use of UUID when given as parameter to start the voicemail application. PS: Please find attached the mod_voicemail.c which includes my modifications if this can help you to better understand what I mean. Thanking you in advance, I'll be available to give any further information. Best regards, Enrico Vergata

[Freeswitch-docs] macOS urgent note for 24x7 folks on Sierra +
by Mario G 14 Aug '17

14 Aug '17

If you have FreeSWITCH running 24x7 on Sierra (and eventually High Sierra), you must update the plist in LaunchAgents to the updated one in the wiki: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/macOS+24x7+Preparation… <https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/macOS+24x7+Preparation…> I spent months on this with Apple and instead of going into the very long story the short of it is: There was a design change (bug in my opinion) in 10.12.0, 10.12.1, 10.12.2, 10.12.5 and 10.12.6 (notice .3 and .4 were OK). Using the default process type macOS would not give CPU to FreeSWITCH even if nothing else was running. I tested this with other apps and it was not a problem, I could only make this happen with FreeSWITCH. I eventually found that overriding the process type resolved the issue in Sierra and High Sierra. Mario G

[Freeswitch-docs] Updated packet capture docs
by Michael Collins 27 Jun '17

27 Jun '17

Hey all, Sorry it's been so long since I've been here! I've spent the last 13 months of my life doing nothing but AWS and Azure security. (A story for another day...) I don't get to do as much FS stuff as I'd like, but recently I've been working on a project that has had me doing a fair amount of packet capture and analysis. I have some hard-earned knowledge that I'd like to add to the packet capture page, including some updates to sipgrep, sngrep, and pcapsipdump. For those interested in the details please follow the packet capture page <https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Packet+Capture> and feel free to contact me with any feedback on the edits I make. Thanks, Michael
