FreeSWITCH and Raspberry Pi
by Ken Rice 01 Mar '16

01 Mar '16

Hey Guys, Last night I noticed the https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Raspberry+Pi page. This page has been mostly stripped of all the information. As a policy the FreeSWITCH project does not link to 3rd party repos, nor does it link to 3rd party program sources other than the upstream projects for C Libraries that we depend on. While we appreciate the effort that some people have gone through for getting packaging working on things like Raspbian, for securities sake of the FreeSWITCH user base all packages we point to need to come from the source. This means either the upstream project, the distro being used, or the FreeSWITCH project itself. If you have scripts to assist in these things, please contact one of the Core FreeSWITCH Team members.

Installation from source instructions
by Bote Man 22 Feb '16

22 Feb '16

I'm still concerned that Confluence provides incomplete instructions for compiling from source. This is the way I always build it so that I can make some minor changes before compiling. Right now the finishing touches that help a user get FS running quickly are abandoned on https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/FreeSWITCH+1.6+Video#Fr eeSWITCH1.6Video-StartingFreeSWITCH The last time I asked about this the response was that the packages contain systemd unit files and scripts that set permissions, but building from source is still left out. Also the current live instructions say to start FS manually, which will cause the known problems with creating databases and log files as the root user. By the time they get around to fixing up the newly compiled installation they will have to fight those permissions problems, too. Adding those abandoned instructions on the 1.6 Video page solves this problem. Will it be OK if I copy those permissions instructions and proven systemd unit file to the new Debian 8 installation page? Is there any serious objection to having it where it can be seen? Normally I would just copy it, but this seems to be a big deal and I want to get it right. Thanks. --- Bote FreeSWITCH Docs Janitor http://freeswitch.org/confluence

FreeSWITCHers, FS-8609 is raised to get a rough outline of a completely new config sample that will be used in 1.8, So we are reaching out to the community for input and direction, I have also created a hipchat room FS-8609 on hipchat.freeswitch.org if you wish to join in.
