dynamic music on hold for mod_conference
by Lappe, Adam 19 Mar '20

19 Mar '20

Hi all, i am trying to dynamically set the mod-sound variable in mod_conference, so I can play different music on hold to my conference rooms without having to create multiple profiles. Is there a way to set my moh-sound path while I create the conference? Or can I change the moh-sound file via the event socket in a existing conference? I think this would also lead to success. Thanks in advance, Adam

New Debian FS vanilla install fails

HI all, I have a new Debian 8.1 (32 bit) server for testing. Stumped by mod_portaudio permissions issue
by Mark Haun 02 Feb '20

02 Feb '20

I built freeswitch version 1.7.0+git~20150730T192909Z~ab7f83c654~32bit for my ARM-based home server (an NVIDIA Jetson board), with the intention of using mod_portaudio with a wireless USB headset for my main home phone. It works well when running freeswitch directly as root, but when I configured freeswitch to run at system startup, mod_portaudio could no longer find any audio devices. No problem, I thought, it's a simple permissions issue. I am using the example debian init script from the wiki (this is a Jessie install with SysV init rather than systemd). It runs freeswitch as user freeswitch, group daemon using the -u and -g command-line options. So I added "freeswitch" to the audio group, then used sudo to verify that I could play sound files with "aplay" as the freeswitch user. That worked, but it did not solve the mod_portaudio failure. Thinking there must be an issue with portaudio separate from ALSA, I fetched and built the "pa_devs" utility which enumerates and prints the available audio devices. (This is basically what mod_portaudio is doing on startup.) Running as the freeswitch user, that worked too. Hmmmm. I tried running freeswitch from the command line using sudo rather than the -u and -g options, i.e. $ sudo freeswitch /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc and that worked as well! Then I started experimenting with -u and -g and discovered that $ /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc -u freeswitch allows mod_portaudio to load correctly, whereas $ /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc -u freeswitch -g daemon causes mod_portaudio to fail. Can anyone explain what's happening here? In both cases the process UID, GID, EUID, EGID, FUID, and FGID are the same (freeswitch:daemon) as displayed with "ps xao pid, uid, gid, euid, egid, fuid, fgid". Could this be a bug in freeswitch? There are a couple of threads from 2-3 years ago in the archives, where mod_portaudio permissions issues were never resolved and the solution remained a mystery. For the time being I guess this (not using -g) is a workaround, but I'd sure like to understand what is going on. Mark

I see mod_http_cache, but afraid of it's only > solution or there is better one. Hi, we used to run on S3, where we mounted the recordings with s3fs-fuse[1] which we ran successfully on 1.6.20. HOWEVER, when we updated to 1.8.5 we ran into problems with the wave files, the media stream was not saved and we ended up with empty media containers, with only some meta data of around 250 bytes ended up being saved. This issue affected about half of all recordings, and we found no correlation in regards to codecs used etc. If this was an issue with configuration, s3fs-fuse or Freeswitch we didn't investigate. We solved this by moving the storage from S3 to EFS, and are currently running it in production without issues in that regard. Has anyone encountered this kind of problem ? I have a pcap if necessary... Thanks, -- Regards, Mirko

question on media bugs: add / remove /add sequence leading to crash when session ends
by Dave Horton 10 Oct '19

10 Oct '19

I’m trying to understand the semantics of removing and re-adding a media bug to a channel. My scenario is that I need to add a bug to a session, and after some period of processing audio then want to remove it. Based on other factors, some time later in the call, I may want to re-add it again. I am on Freeswitch v1.8.5 How I am doing this now is: - switch_core_media_bug_add(session, “my-function”, NULL, callback, …) some time later - switch_core_media_bug_remove(session, &bug); some time later - switch_core_media_bug_add(session, “my-function”, NULL, callback, …) That all works fine, but when the session ends I get a segfault. See the stack trace below. (Note: I also tried using ‘switch_core_media_bug_close’ for the second step, and I don’t get a stack trace in that scenario, but neither does my callback get invoked after I re-add the bug in step #3). So, two questions: 1) What is the recommended way to accomplish what I am doing? 2) Is this a bug in freeswitch that I should report via Confluence? Thread 40 "freeswitch" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. Install on new Debian 10
by Sean Devoy 02 Oct '19

02 Oct '19

Hi, I spun up a new Debian 10 x64 system. On this page: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Installation I did the command FSfile=$(curl -s https://files.freeswitch.org/releases/freeswitch/ | grep -oE "freeswitch-[0-9]*\.[0-9]*\.[0-9]*\.-release\.tar\.bz2" | tail -n 1) && echo Downloading $FSfile && curl https://files.freeswitch.org/freeswitch-releases/$FSfile | tar -xj && mv ${FSfile/.tar.bz2//} freeswitch Which failed. I then installed curl and ran it again. It worked I think, I now have a subfolder named freeswitch. I tried ./configure but got the error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH I did apt-get install build-essential and got farther. Then I got an error about no zlib devel apt install zlib1g-dev and got no usable libjpeg; please install libjpeg devel apt install libjpeg-dev and got error: You need to install pkg-config to configure FreeSWITCH. apt install pkg-config then I got: Package sqlite3 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `sqlite3.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'sqlite3' found configure: error: Library requirements (sqlite3 >= 3.6.20) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. apt install sqlite3 and got the same error. Is there a list of prereqs I need to install? What do I do about this sqlite3 error? Will there be a disto install soon? Thanks, Sean

Error creating SIP UA
by William Colls 02 Oct '19

02 Oct '19

Freeswitch 1.10.1, debian 10.0 I am getting the following error message when I try to start freeswitch: 2019-09-29 04:10:46.557595 [ERR] sofia.c:3245 Error Creating SIP UA for profile: internal (sip:mod_sofia@192.168.51.116:5060;transport=udp,tcp) The likely causes for this are: 1) Another application is already listening on the specified address. 2) The IP the profile is attempting to bind to is not local to this system. A port scan tells me that no other process is listening to 5060, and $${local_ip_v4} is set to the correct value (192.168.51.116). What else should I look for/at to resolve the issue? This only started yesterday, and I am not aware of changing anything that might be related. But obviously something did get changed. Thank you for your time and suggestions. William
