Documentation requests
by Michael Jerris 04 Oct '07

04 Oct '07

As Anthony had mentioned in another thread, we have heard your ongoing complaints that there is not enough documentation, but we don't know what kind of documentation you really want. Please respond to this thread with what information that you were not able to find on the wiki, that would help you in using freeswitch. If no one responds, GREAT! Were done and don't need to document anymore. Otherwise, this is your opportunity to speak up and say what is missing. Mike

Setting up OpenZAP for the first time - need a little guidance
by Michael Collins 29 Sep '07

29 Sep '07

Guys, I am getting ready to test OpenZAP on my tor2 card. In looking at the source code, I see "analog_spans" and "pri_spans" - does that imply that I cannot do clear channel, at least not yet? I was hoping to test a span between my PBX and my FS box, or even between my * box and FS. (I will be testing PRI as well, but I have an application that requires good ol' fashioned 24-channel T1 without RBS.) Thanks! -MC

Re: [Freeswitch-users] Issue of FS with sip-Proxy has been solved
by Dinesh Dialani 28 Sep '07

28 Sep '07

Hi, Earlier FS was not able to configure itself to Voip Provider using Sip-Proxy but in revision #5713 this bug has been fixed and has been tested by me. I looked into the code and verified the patch made by Anthony. With the new code it is sending register request to Sip-Proxy and then Sip-Proxy sends it to Voip-Provider and hence FS get registered with Voip-Provider. A new parameter has been added in gateways configuration of Sofia.conf.xml as given below /// send register to this proxy: *optional* same as proxy, if blank /// <param name="register-proxy" value="192.168.96.106:5065"/> and corresponding to it a new variable char *register_url has been added in struct sofia_gateway in mod_sofia.h. Thanks Dinesh

How to generate A-leg simulated ringing.
by Keith Laaks 26 Sep '07

26 Sep '07

Hi All, I have tried to use freeswitch to do a 'call-back' type of feature like this: a) I issue via xmlrpc (or eventsocket) an 'originate'. Freeswitch places SIP call to destination specified (let's call this leg-A). b) As soon as A answers, freeswitch hits a specified context, with the following xml: <extension name="eventsocket_xentry"> <condition field="${xtrigger}" expression="9876"/> <condition field="destination_number" expression="^1((1|2|3|4|5|7|8)\d.*)$"> <action application="sleep" data="600"/> <action application="set" data="wkl_bridge_target=$0"/> <action application="playback" data="/fs/core/beep.G729"/> <action application="sleep" data="600"/> <action application="ivr" data="verifyhumanbeing"/> </condition> </extension> <extension name="postkeypress"> <condition field="destination_number" expression="postkeypress"> <action application="playback" data="/fs/core/vm-dialout.G729"/> <action application="set" data="ringback=/fs/core/niceringsound.G729"/> <action application="set" data="continue_on_fail=true"/> <action application="set" data="export_vars=ringback"/> <action application="set" data="bridge_pre_execute_bleg_app=ringback"/> <action application="bridge" data="sofia/profile_provider/${wkl_bridge_target}@111.222.333.444:5060"/ > <action application="playback" data="/fs/core/beeperr.G729"/> <action application="playback" data="/fs/core/vm-goodbye.G729"/> </condition> </extension> c) On answer, A hears a beep-tone, an IVR message asking him to enter digit. d) On detecting the digit being pressed, the IVR 'action' is to go to the 'postkeypress' extension. e) A then hears a message about 'Please wait while I place your call'. Up to this point everything works as expected. f) Freeswitch then starts the 'bridge' by calling a destination number (say B) passed as xmlrpc originate parameter, routed via the specified SIP provider. PROBLEM: Although the SIP provider does actually provide in-band progress tones, on the A side there is total silence until B answers (or if that leg fails, the tone and goodbye message). I have tried various combinations of 'ringback' related application, but can't find a way of getting some audio being played back to the A leg (not that part of the call is already answered at this point) concurrently with the B-leg awaiting answer. If there is some way of doing this, or fixing the above 'challenge', please help. Note that since my SIP providers all only do G.729, I have some limitations. Not sure if the conference feature will be useful without a proper Alaw to G729 transcoder. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Best Regards Keith

Routing, redundancy , balance between multiple vendors
by chav paskov 25 Sep '07

25 Sep '07

Hi Everybody, The pic above describes /I hope/ what I'm willing to accomplish using Freeswitch. I think the pic is self explanatory and I have few questions based on it. 1. Is there any mechanism /application/ that would allow me to do round robin between Vendor 1 and Vendor 2. Currently my settings are: <extension name="FreeSWITCH routing to IAX VENDORS"> <condition field="destination_number" expression="^8888$"> <action application="set" data="hangup_after_bridge=true"/> <action application="set" data="continue_of_fail=true"/> <action application="set" data="call_timeout=5"/> <action application="set" data="no_media=true"/> <action application="bridge" data="iax/marko:moofoo@XXX.XXX.XXX.242/1234567890"/> <action application="bridge" data="iax/marko:moofoo@XXX.XXX.XXX.243/1234567890"/> </condition> </extension> Which gives me only Fail over functionality. 2. Can I apply the scenario described above using priority + number of active connections. Example: I'd like to be able to send all calls to Vendor 1 until the number of active connections reaches 250. All calls generated later on to be sent to Vendor 2. I'd really appreciate if somebody replies to this e-mail with some good examples, or at least a hint. The default directory.xml still uses $${domain} which is incorrect. Replace it with your domain, or use the $${sip_profile} variable. Examples: <domain name="$${sip_profile}"> <domain name="mydomain.com"> Also, make your phone register with the domain name, or the ip address of the proxy since the stuff behind the '@'-sign must match the domain specified. Documentation Formats

[This is a new thread to allow us to discuss documentation formats separately from documentation requests.] The question of why to use Docbook was brought up by Trixter. I've been researching Docbook and I can see definitely pros along with the cons. The biggest pro would be the fact that Docbook requires organization of the documentation. That leads to the biggest con: the documentation must be organized. That will take a lot of work, but the rewards are huge. Docbook requires lots of metadata for the document(s) in question. (It's essentially just XML, but it's well-defined XML, structured specifically for the benefit of technical documentation projects.) Brian is correct: this is a huge project within the FreeSWITCH project. It probably needs a champion, or at least a person or persons in charge. I would recommend that whoever is in charge know enough about FS to guide the documentation. He or she needn't be a FS expert, but definitely needs to be familiar with the whole scope of the FS project. For the record, I suck at that kind of management, otherwise I'd volunteer. However, I am pretty good at proof-reading and editing existing documents. I am available to start helping to convert existing documentation into Docbook format, assuming the FS project leaders would like to take the documentation in that direction. Before we do anything else, I'd like anthm, bw, and Trixter to give this question some serious thought: is Docbook right for FS documentation? Please don't answer the question today. Give it some thought. Sleep on it, kick it around, discuss it amongst yourselves and then let us know what you think. One last comment: Docbook isn't meant to replace the wiki, but rather to complement it. The wiki is still a vital tool for the community. The Docbook would be more like "official" documentation, e.g. perhaps it would require Anthony's or Brian's seal of approval before it is "official," while the wiki remains the community-owned bulletin board. Just some of my thoughts. Please ruminate and respond! -MC
