hi, MFC/R2 is a signaling form on the 'CAS tree' of a PRI - in this case mostly E1. The equivalent T1 is CAS/R1. Both are actually far more in use than you would expect, and we can start with the US, South America and Asia where various forms still are heavily used. As for implementing a MFC/R2 stack on FreeSwitch I would consult with Steve because there are few around with the skills and interest to work on this - and this signaling form has a very complex story when it comes to the issue of variants. hi, Steve do provide the stack as a library, so this is mostly a challenge for FreeSwitch to find a solution to use GPL code. It is fully possible for FreeSwitch to do so without violating any of the licenses. You simply use it as a binary module - various schemes are possible. Jan Brian West wrote:

Its still not the same situation as G729 tho G729 is patented and without proper licensing for the patents nothing you do is correct... Not to mention that patent holders have some pretty strong restrictions on what you can do... Open Source code almost always ends up requiring a 10000 channel licenses per box its installed on (that¹s about $50,000 USD in licensing per box) From: Brian West <brian.west@mac.com> Reply-To: <freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org> Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2007 11:23:17 -0600 To: <freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org> Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] mfcr2 You're correct the end user can combine things that are incompatible without any recourse. /b On Jan 31, 2007, at 11:16 AM, Nikolay Kolev wrote:

G.729 have a commercial license, so that is very special. And this is one of the pains because many GPL projects would like to use it. Jan Nikolay Kolev wrote:

Do you think Steve would be willing to re-release his stack under LGPL? At least that way it could be included as a binary. Otherwise maybe someone could write a shell script that operates as part of the install process - it could do the heavy lifting of wget-ting the stack source, make/make install-ing it, etc. Just a thought. -MC _____ From: freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of janvb@caselaboratories.com Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 12:35 PM To: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] mfcr2 hi Brian, Not if it the modules are separate stand-alone projects. We know Steve, we talk to him on a daily basis. He has helped us in several ways with this project, but there is NO CHANCE he will do anything to change the license of spandsp or unicall. It has been discussed before and it will not happen. If we make a script that downloads gpl code and links to our project, it's probably still a gpl violation, maybe not to the letter of it, but some folks would say so. We have no interest in "working around" qwirks in the licenses our friends use on their software to make them compatible. If we use spandsp with freeswitch, it will only be within the spirit and intention of the license, as a stand alone app that speaks most likely sip/udptl/rtp/t38. We have discussed this in the past and it is still a possibility. As for mfcr2, I'll throw the same comment out that brian did on pri. If anyone has an mfcr2 stack they would like to donate, we are more than happy to work with you to integrate it into freeswitch. lgpl is perfectly compatible with our code base... and binary only wouldn't be required. /b On Feb 2, 2007, at 11:39 AM, Michael Collins wrote:
