Conference Latency
by Tom Chez 28 Jul '06

28 Jul '06

I installed FreeSwitch on an Intel Dual Xeon. I had a conference call (total 2 people) using idefisk (iax) softphone and the uLaw codec. The server was on a seperatre network with 130ms ping times from each client. There was excessive delay (> 3sec round trip). Any ideas what might be causing this - or what I can do to troubble shoot this? Anyone else experiencing excessive delays? CDR Status Update
by Yossi Neiman 27 Jul '06

27 Jul '06

Hey everybody, Not only has mod_cdr been included in trunk now for a couple days, but I have made some additional enhancements to it. 1. From BaseCDR I have cleaned up and removed some of the earlier used debugging output statements. 2. BaseCDR properly initializes the errorstate upon construction. 3. MysqlCDR now checks the status of the connection to the database, and in the event that the connection is lost, it will try up to 5 times to reconnect per instance of a MysqlCDR object. There is no failover handling yet, so you might want to use at least 1 other logging routine if you have less than reliable connection to your Mysql server. Please remember, you must use MySQL 4.1.x or greater, as this uses prepared statements. Future planned enhancements: 1. Adding in exception handling (try/throw/catch) to detect when a failure to write out a record has occured. 2. Adding in failover handling (queuing to disk) of records so that data is not lost if a record fails to write out the data. (Note: not all loggers will implement this.) 3. Additional logging classes, such as Postgres and possibly ASN1 format. Enjoy! -- Yossi Neiman Cartis Solutions, Inc. - http://www.cartissolutions.com

xcode modules universal binary
by Brian West 27 Jul '06

27 Jul '06

Hey guys, I have the xcode build working on my intel mac building universal binaries but it seems that the modules do not load on the PPC mac but the binary will execute... It complains about dyld_stub_binding_helper which makes me think I have missed something on my Loadable Bundle template. Any idea? Thanks, Brian

IAX and log
by Ivan C Myrvold 27 Jul '06

27 Jul '06

The default iax.conf section of freeswitch: <configuration name="iax.conf" description="IAX Configuration"> <settings> <param name="debug" value="0"/> <param name="port" value="4569"/> <param name="dialplan" value="XML"/> <param name="codec-prefs" value="PCMU@20i,PCMA,speex,L16"/> <param name="codec-master" value="us"/> <param name="codec-rates" value="8"/> </settings> </configuration> I want to test freeswitch with an IAX client. What values do I put in here for a user e.g. "ivan" and password "mypassword"? Where do freeswitch write its output? I couldn't find anything from freeswitch in system.log nor console.log. Ivan

FreeSWITCH Universal Binary
by Brian West 27 Jul '06

27 Jul '06

Ok guys. http://homepage.mac.com/brian.west/FreeSWITCH.dmg.zip I solved the issue with linking the stubs in for the modules. The above zip file will mount and run on ppc and x86. The file needs to remain being called FreeSWITCH.dmg, Mount it and drop to a terminal and run: /Volumes/FreeSWITCH/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch This should bring up the default modules. You can edit the freeswitch.xml in the freeswitch/conf directory to add additional modules. Thanks, Brian

FreeSWITCH xcode 2.3 project
by Brian West 26 Jul '06

26 Jul '06

Ladies and Gents, I have just finished up the core elements of FreeSWITCH in xcode 2.3 on my intel Mac. It should build universal binaries of FreeSWITCH for usage on the Mac OS X Platform. This build is very similar to the MSVC build. You download the src. Open the FreeSWITCH project file in mac/xcode dir and select the aggregate FreeSWITCH target and click build. It will be using curl to download and build all the framework dependancies. I still have some clean up to do and the modules to port over to xcode for building but that shouldn't take me long considering I have spent a total of 3 hours on this project in xocde thus far. If anyone else wishes to help please feel free to email me or the list. Thanks, Brian West

SIP SDP Codec Issue
by Sean P. Robertson 24 Jul '06

24 Jul '06

I pointed my Zultys IP PBX at my FreeSwitch installation today and FreeSwitch would not accept calls from it. In the FreeSwitch log is says it is because it "Got no compatible codecs!" ULAW is enabled in the FreeSwitch config and the Zultys system is offering ULAW, but the description that Zultys uses in its SDP looks a little different than it does when a call works through it. Working (Directly from a Zultys 4x4 Phone): m=audio 20000 RTP/AVP 0 8 18 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000 Failed (From a Zultys MX250 using the FreeSwitch as trunking proxy): m=audio 20000 RTP/AVP 0 8 18 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000/1 Notice the "/1" at the end of the "a" entry on the failed call. I do not know if this is proper or not, but in the interest of interoperability, I thought that I should report the issue. Attached are ethereal traces of a successful call and a failed one along with the FreeSwitch console output from the failed call. If there is a better place to post things like this, please let me know. Sean

Re: [Freeswitch-users] running freeswitch.org
by Sean P. Robertson 19 Jul '06

19 Jul '06

What do you want to do with it? If you are just kicking the tires and have a SIP device there, you can simply point it (Proxy and Registrar) at the IP Address of your Freeswitch machine and then dial 888 on that device. This will connect you to the developers' conference bridge that is mentioned in the Getting Started http://www.freeswitch.org/gettingstarted.html . Sean -----Original Message----- From: Johann George [mailto:johann@georgex.org] Sent: Monday, July 17, 2006 6:40 PM To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: [Freeswitch-users] running freeswitch.org I just heard about FreeSwitch this morning and have downloaded, compiled, installed it and even started it up. The instructions for installation were most helpful. But I'm not sure where to go from here. Any instructions (even minimal) on how to try it out? Sorry in advance if this has been answered before. I looked through the website and could not spot anything; but perhaps I missed it. Thanks.
