Install on new Debian 10
Hi, I spun up a new Debian 10 x64 system. On this page: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Installation I did the command FSfile=$(curl -s https://files.freeswitch.org/releases/freeswitch/ | grep -oE "freeswitch-[0-9]*\.[0-9]*\.[0-9]*\.-release\.tar\.bz2" | tail -n 1) && echo Downloading $FSfile && curl https://files.freeswitch.org/freeswitch-releases/$FSfile | tar -xj && mv ${FSfile/.tar.bz2//} freeswitch Which failed. I then installed curl and ran it again. It worked I think, I now have a subfolder named freeswitch. I tried ./configure but got the error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH I did apt-get install build-essential and got farther. Then I got an error about no zlib devel apt install zlib1g-dev and got no usable libjpeg; please install libjpeg devel apt install libjpeg-dev and got error: You need to install pkg-config to configure FreeSWITCH. apt install pkg-config then I got: Package sqlite3 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `sqlite3.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'sqlite3' found configure: error: Library requirements (sqlite3 >= 3.6.20) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. apt install sqlite3 and got the same error. Is there a list of prereqs I need to install? What do I do about this sqlite3 error? Will there be a disto install soon? Thanks, Sean

I did
apt-get install build-essential
and got farther. Then I got an error about no zlib devel
apt install zlib1g-dev
and got no usable libjpeg; please install libjpeg devel
apt install libjpeg-dev
and got error: You need to install pkg-config to configure FreeSWITCH.
apt install pkg-config
then I got:
Package sqlite3 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `sqlite3.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'sqlite3' found
configure: error: Library requirements (sqlite3 >= 3.6.20) not met;
consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
apt install sqlite3
and got the same error.
Is there a list of prereqs I need to install? What do I do about this
sqlite3 error?
Will there be a disto install soon?
Thanks,
Sean

I think this error “E: Malformed entry 1 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/freeswitch.list (Suite)” only occurred when I had previously tried one or more other items that failed. I suspect you can disregard it. I reinitialized the Droplet and moved on fine. I would be happy to share anything you like. Unfortunately, I am far from Linux literate. If you can guide me through what you want, I will happily provide it. To be clear, Digital Ocean’s Debian 10 Droplet does not allow unsigned source packages(?). My final resolution was a small change to the instructions here: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Debian+10+Buster By changing “apt-get update” to apt-get update --allow-unauthenticated it installed fine Thanks for your help. Sean -- Glad to hear your environment is working as expected. I tried replicating the issue with DO's default Debian droplet and it went fine ... adopting FS's repo key was a non-issue. This got me thinking whether the IP pool your server is bound to may have been previously blocked (e.g https://lists.freeswitch.org/pipermail/freeswitch-users/2019-April/131716.ht... ). Everything should work out of the box if the repository is up and accessible as well as if the key is trusted; the latter can be tested by running: apt-key list You should see a record reading "FreeSWITCH Packaging Key" or so. -C

Did you clone, then bootstrap, then configure —prefix=/use/local then make and make install? On Thu, 26 Sep 2019 at 23:50, Sean Devoy <sdevoy@bizfocused.com> wrote:

Thanks, but I must be doing it wrong:
root@FreeSwitch-Deb10-CPU-intense:~# apt-get update && apt-get install -y gnupg2 wget lsb-release
# you may want to populate /etc/freeswitch at this point.
# if /etc/freeswitch does not exist, the standard vanilla configuration is deployed

I tried Ciprian’s advise. I could not find that page prior to that. Everything worked after I created /etc/freeswitch and copied my 1.8 config files in. FS still won’t start. Any ideas appreciated. Would it be better to upgrade a copy my running 1.8 version? Thanks, Sean … Here is the current result of trying FS after build. root@FreeSwitch-Deb10-CPU-intense:~# service freeswitch restart Job for freeswitch.service failed because the control process exited with error code. I tried Ciprian’s advise. I could not find that page prior to that.
Everything worked after I created /etc/freeswitch and copied my 1.8 config files in.
FS still won’t start. Any ideas appreciated.
Would it be better to upgrade a copy my running 1.8 version?
