Here is a pretty good guide for QoS. http://cisconerd.wordpress.com/2012/09/13/qos-cheatsheet/ And a Sample Cisco Template for CE devices: http://cisconerd.wordpress.com/2012/09/13/qos-template/ Any Operator knowing what they do should follow this concept on throughout their Core. It works when implemented properly and standards are adhered to throughout the network. Is QoS needed / beneficial?
by Jason Moran 13 May '14

13 May '14

We currently plug our CentOS 5.x FreeSWITCH server directly into our service provider's ADTRAN to connect with the outside world, and to a switch for intranet (of which a 2nd firewall is connected there and to the ADTRAN for our other servers). We are shopping for other providers who are shocked that we don't have a router in between that is doing QoS to prioritize the voice/SIP traffic. Is a router w/ QoS capabilities a good idea? Thanks, Jason

New approach for integrating FreeSWITCH and HylaFax
by Markus Lindenberg 13 May '14

13 May '14

Hi, We just open sourced GOfax.IP, a project i've been working on for the better part of the last two months. It's a new (and I think best yet) way to bring "native" Fax over IP using T.38 or G711 to HylaFAX Fax servers by directly connecting HylaFAX to FreeSWITCH's mod_spandsp without any modem emulation layer. We replaced the faxgetty and faxsend processes with versions that use FreeSWITCH to handle incoming and outgoing calls. https://github.com/gonicus/gofaxip We wanted to have a solution that brings all the power of rxfax/tfax to HylaFax. FreeSWITCH's modem emulation has to be chained to t38_gateway to use T.38, and in my tests that didn't work as well as using txfax/rxfax, so I looked at how capi4hylafax hooks into HylaFax and implemented that approach for FreeSWITCH. I'd love to hear thoughts/suggestions and am happy to accept bug reports and contributions. Regards, Markus

Routing for custom user
by Роман aka iTUX 13 May '14

13 May '14

Hello! I have several users in freeswitch/directory/default (for example 5001, 5002, 5003). Also have several ISP in freeswitch/sip_profiles (isp0, isp1, isp2, isp3). Default routing define in freeswitch/dialplan/default and by default used isp0 for outbound calls. How i can organize outbound calls for user 5001 via isp1 and for user 5002 via isp2? Or user 5001 and 5002 via isp1, but with different A-numbers (aon) Thanks for advice -- Kind regards, Roman

Using XML CURL for LRN queries
by Victor Chukalovskiy 12 May '14

12 May '14

Good day, I have a web server that I can request as following: http://192.168.1.2/pqrs/route?tn=4165555555 And it will respond with xml containing LRN which looks like this: <pqrsd> <api>pqrsd</api> <operation>route</operation> <status>success</status> <tn>4165555555</tn> <region>canada</region> * <rn>4160000001</rn>* <spid/> <spName/> <routedBy>none</routedBy> </pqrsd> Can I use mod_xml_curl to make LRN queries from XML dialplan and put LRN from the response into a channel variable? Is it suitable for such real-time queries? If so, how should I setup mod_xml_curl? WiKi mostly goes over standard stuff such as getting directory, dialplan, ACL etc Thank you, -Victor

Re: [Freeswitch-users] many fs<-->skype gateways stop working unexpectedly

Hello again! Just would to let you know that jira ticket is created. https://jira.freeswitch.org/browse/FS-6512 I understand that for you the priority is minor but for us it's really not so. Skype gateways in production (we hadn't such problem in the past) and still having these very weird segmentation faults :( Any advice will be very appreciated. Thanks. From: nasida(a)live.ru To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Date: Thu, 8 May 2014 19:26:24 +0400 Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] many fs<-->skype gateways stop working unexpectedly Thanks for advice Giovanni but like I said in point 3 we already tried it and unfortunately it didn't help :( Okay i will try to do backtrace and to open Jira. From: gmaruzz(a)gmail.com Date: Thu, 8 May 2014 17:09:45 +0200 To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] many fs<-->skype gateways stop working unexpectedly Yuri, try this (maybe it will help): maybe the config directory of the skype clients has gone corrupted, the skype instances crashes, and somehow make fs to crash. Try to wipe or move the config directory of skype instances (where skype instances have their own databases, etc) and recreate it using the "install.pl" script. Maybe this solves the problem. If it does not solve, please open a Jira Sincerely, Giovanni Maruzzelli Cell : +39-347-2665618 On Thu, May 8, 2014 at 4:58 PM, Michael Jerris <mike(a)jerris.com> wrote: if freeswitch is segfaulting, then we would need to see the backtrace from that core dump. But now we are starting to get issues when FS went down regularly. It is strange because gateway worked fine long time ago. We already tried: 1) reboot full box a lot of times. fs works ~5 min (i can make a calls) and down again. there is nothing interesting in the fs logs. I only see that error in mesages May 8 10:16:11 SkypeGW1 kernel: freeswitch[6220] general protection rip:2b1848474c31 rsp:2b1858b9e400 error:0 2) tried to change skype id. we only have inbound traffic and some people said that microsoft can prevent correct work of gw in this case. so they advised to change skype id but that didn't help. 3) we have script which does full re-creating skype configuration of skype instances after restarting of box. This way we prevent issue with high PCU usage of skype instances. I believe you know that i talking about. 4) we have core dump and can open jira ticket if this is the correct way.
