Major update to Download & Installation wiki
by Mario G 29 Nov '10

29 Nov '10

FYI to interested parties. I made a major replacement to the Downloads and Installation page http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Installation_Guide and updated others. It was obvious additions over the years made this somewhat disorganized. This is my second contribution, after the Mac OS install and tips page. You can view the history tab to look at pages prior to 11/27/2010 to see the old pages. I started with small changes due to the new Mac OS X in added, but then kept going since I have experience writing books and kept seeing things that needed changing. I tried to make this easy to understand and follow. This took too long, a week. Hope this helps the FreeSWITCH™ community! A comment/opinion/request for contributions: Make the Wiki generic so it applies to everyone. It appears people have added info specific to their system. For instance, if something is optional it should be noted as that not implied to be mandatory for installation. NEW PAGES http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Linux_Quick_Install_Guide <- I made this generic, no references to distributions, that's the only way to keep it a quick install guide. http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Installation_for_Windows <- I combined everything I could find on Windows UPDATED PAGES: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Download_&_Installation_Guide <- major rewrite/reorganization except for distributions I could not test, see below http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Download_FreeSWITCH <-minor cleanup http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Quick_Start <- minor added info from other Ubuntu pages http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Git_Install <- very minor Mac OS X change OBSOLETE PAGES: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Quick_and_Dirty_Install <- replaced by linux quick install guide, some text moved to other pages http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Windows_email http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Build_deb_package_for_Ubuntu_Hardy DOWNLOAD & INSTALLATION GUIDE CHANGES It is a little more detailed but the new linux quick install guide is referenced at the top for a quick overview. Size went from 47k to 35k. But there is more usable information. Some of the changes: I tested FS installation on CentOS, Debian, Fedora, and openSUSE to make sure they are up-to-date. I tried to do freebsd and ubuntu but they don't allow LVM installs. I did minor edits to Arch Linux, FreeBSD, Gentoo, pfSense, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Cross Compiling since I could not test them. Some seem really out of date. If you really want to see the changes do a compare in history. I made the new/replacement distributions generic and much smaller by linking to continuation steps, no need to duplicate info 12 times. New Distribution section has updated and simplified format (only for the ones I installed and tested). Reorganized so it is no longer "spagetti" documentation. Over years people added info without regard for where it should be placed. Rewrote the installation steps. Cleaned up text Removed duplication Added tons of links Prebuilt binaries section now combined from multiple sources. Kept all technical information Fixed prerequisites. Removed obviously obsolete information. I did not remove anything that I didn't know for sure was obsolete (like FS 1.0.1 stuff). Added ™ to to FreeSWITCH in text. Tried to make it more professional Moved Windows information to its own page and consolidated Windows pages. I have no intention is updating that information. I cleaned up text but did not change any technical info since I cannot verify the information.

FS spidermonkey wont compile on Fedora 14
by Mario G 29 Nov '10

29 Nov '10

While testing for the wiki I ran into this issue, 2 days and no progress. Searches are showing this is happing for other non FS users since October. During compile I get hundreds of errors like below. I am not going to try anything else but wonder if anyone here has gotten the latest FS on Fedora 14 and know how to get past this? If not I will keep an eye on the wen until it's fixed and update the wiki when I test successfully. "jsapi.c: src/jstypes.h no suitable type for jsint8/JSUint8" "Fatal error: can't create src/.libs/jsapi.o: permission denied"

problem with google voice
by joy this 29 Nov '10

29 Nov '10

Dear all: I have two problems with google voice. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My FS version is Version 1.0.head (svn-341M), under Windows XP. My problems are: 1. The outbound calling works, but the incoming calls never forward to the extension which I indicate. I use GV account 1 (on the web page) to call GV account 2 (on FS). The account 1 rings, but the account 2 does not. The message on FS is: *2010-11-29 17:33:13.484375 [NOTICE] switch_channel.c:784 New Channel dingaling/5000 [752f5e86-e78c-42ba-b828-ad9fbbfbed9f]* *2010-11-29 17:33:13.484375 [NOTICE] switch_channel.c:782 Rename Channel dingaling/5000->DingaLing/new [752f5e86-e78c-42ba-b828-ad9fbbfbed9f]* *2010-11-29 17:33:13.484375 [NOTICE] mod_dingaling.c:1110 Ring-Ready DingaLing/new!* *2010-11-29 17:33:28.546875 [NOTICE] mod_dingaling.c:731 Hangup DingaLing/new [CS_INIT] [NORMAL_CLEARING]* *2010-11-29 17:33:28.546875 [NOTICE] switch_core_session.c:1249 Session 2 (DingaLing/new) Ended* *2010-11-29 17:33:28.546875 [NOTICE] switch_core_session.c:1251 Close Channel DingaLing/new [CS_DESTROY]* * * * *But it works fine if I call the account 2 by google talk, not only call out but also call in. My jingle_profile and diaplain are as following: *\jingle_profiles\client.xml* <include> <profile type="client"> <param name="name" value="thisjoy"/> <param name="login" value=" thisjoy @gmail.com/gtalk"/> <param name="password" value="PWD"/> <param name="dialplan" value="XML"/> <param name="context" value="public"/> <param name="message" value="Jingle all the way"/> <param name="rtp-ip" value="$${bind_server_ip}"/> <param name="auto-login" value="true"/>  <param name="sasl" value="plain"/> <param name="server" value="talk.google.com"/>  <param name="tls" value="true"/> <param name="use-rtp-timer" value="true"/> <param name="rtp-timer-name" value="none"/> <param name="exten" value="5000"/> <param name="vad" value="both"/> <param name="local-network-acl" value="localnet.auto"/> </profile> </include> *\dialplan\default.xml* <extension name="gvoice_out"> <condition field="destination_number" expression="^#20(1\d{10})$"> <action application="set" data="hangup_after_bridge=true"/> <action application="ring_ready"/> <action application="bridge" data="dingaling/thisjoy/+$ 1(a)voice.google.com"/> </condition> </extension> 2.FS sometimes crashed when I call out or call in via google voice. It seems the file “libgcrypt-11.dll” got some problems, and I use GnuTLS-2.10.1. Would it be possible to figure this out by using another version? Thank you for your help. Sincerely yours, Thisjoy.

The port installs the jpeg library in /usr/local/lib but as you pointed out the build doesn't link to it there: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ljpeg Please follow: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Installation_Guide#FreeBSD 3. Compile spandsp ( cd libs/spandsp ; ./configure ; gmake install ) Hope this helps. -kim --

mod_voicemail problem/question
by covici＠ccs.covici.com 28 Nov '10

28 Nov '10

Hi. I was under the impression that <param name="vmain-key" value="*"/> meant that if you pressed * while the greeting was showing, it would prompt you for the password and you could retrieve your voicemail when not at the console. The question is, is this supposed to work this way and if not, what is the function of this key? Also, what is vmain-extension and is it related to the above? thanks much for all your help. -- Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is: How do you spend it? Compiling on FreeBSD
by Adrian Gschwend 28 Nov '10

Hi group, I use Freeswitch on FreeBSD for ages now, always trunk which I compile every few weeks. Unfortunately it doesn't compile anymore for a while, it fails in mod_spandsp I checked the docs according to: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Installation_Guide#FreeBSD http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Mod_spandsp so I compiled both graphics/tiff-4.0.0 and graphics/jpeg-8_3, I'm on 8.1-RELEASE But it doesn't find jpeg, like the possible error stated on Mod_spandsp page. But unless I completely miss something here it *should* be installed (in terms of the port is definitely there). -- [...] Creating mod_spandsp.la /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ljpeg quiet_libtool: link: gcc -shared .libs/mod_spandsp_la-mod_spandsp.o .libs/mod_spandsp_la-udptl.o .libs/mod_spandsp_la-mod_spandsp_fax.o .libs/mod_spandsp_la-mod_spandsp_dsp.o .libs/mod_spandsp_la-mod_spandsp_codecs.o -Wl,-rpath -Wl,/usr/local/src/freeswitch/.libs -Wl,-rpath -Wl,/usr/local/freeswitch/lib -L/usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/apr-util/xml/expat/lib/.libs -L/usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/apr/.libs -L/usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/tiff-3.8.2/libtiff/.libs -ljpeg /usr/local/src/freeswitch/.libs/libfreeswitch.so -L/usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/apr-util/xml/expat/lib /usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/apr-util/xml/expat/lib/.libs/libexpat.a /usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/apr/.libs/libapr-1.a -lcrypt -lpthread /usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/spandsp/src/.libs/libspandsp.a -L/usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/tiff-3.8.2/libtiff /usr/local/src/freeswitch/libs/tiff-3.8.2/libtiff/.libs/libtiff.a -lz -lm -lssl -lcrypto -lncurses -Wl,-soname -Wl,mod_spandsp.so -o .libs/mod_spandsp.so gmake[4]: *** [mod_spandsp.la] Error 1 gmake[3]: *** [mod_spandsp-all] Error 1 gmake[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 -- Any FreeBSD user which can compile that ATM?
