mod_python objects and session cleanup
by Novak Joe 14 Sep '08

14 Sep '08

Hi, I've been playing around a bit with mod_python and have a question about using objects and session cleanup. I put together a trivial object-based IVR after taking a look at some of the wikipbx examples: http://fisheye.freeswitch.org:8081/browse/~raw,r=27/WikiPBX/ivr/baseivr.py these seem to be based on an older version of mod_python where PySession and uuid still represented appropriate usage, but with a couple of minor changes I put something together that seemed appropriate: -------------------------------------- # -*- mode: python; coding: utf-8 -*- from freeswitch import * class BaseIVR( object ): """ Basic IVR object. Defines some common functions and methods. """ def __init__( self, session ): self.session = session self.session.setInputCallback( self.input_callback ) self.session.setHangupHook( self.hangup_hook ) def hangup_hook( self, session, what ): """ Default hangup hook. Overload as needed. """ consoleLog( "info","The application hung up for %s.\n\n" % what ) del self.session #Without this call the session/channel never gets cleaned-up return def input_callback( self, session, what, obj ): """ Default input callback for dtmf and other events. Overload this as needed. """ if ( what == "dtmf" ): consoleLog( "info", what + " " + obj.digit + "\n" ) else: consoleLog( "info", what + " " + obj.serialize() + "\n" ) return "pause" def main( self ): """Basic main method.""" self.session.answer( ) consoleLog( "info", "Testing my IVR object.\n\n" ) self.session.hangup( ) return def handler( session, args ): """Handle the call.""" basicIVR = BaseIVR( session ) basicIVR.main( ) -------------------------------------- The above script works fine, but I noticed that, if I remove the call to 'del self.session' which I added to the hangup_hook after reading, http://jira.freeswitch.org/browse/MODLANG-33 that the session will not be deleted and, as mentioned in the post above, calling freeswitchconsole$ show channels will show that there are hanging/open channels. Is this because I've created an inappropriate usage scenario, or is this a bug? Is the 'del self.session' an appropriate work-around or is that likely to cause further problems down the road? Cheers, Joe

Sofia SIP Registration/Retry Problem
by Zhen Xu 14 Sep '08

14 Sep '08

I am currently running Freeswitch 1.0.1 with the FS registering with a few SIP gateways. Everything works great except one SIP gateway always drop out after a day or two. I have specified in the profile to retry register but this does not seem to work after the SIP registration failure. <include> <gateway name="vitel-inbound"> <param name="username" value="xxxx"/> <param name="password" value="xxxx"/> <param name="proxy" value="inbound2.vitelity.net"/> <param name="expire-seconds" value="60"/> <param name="register" value="true"/> <param name="register-transport" value="udp"/> <param name="retry_seconds" value="30"/> </gateway> </include> I did a trace on the SIP message as well as the FS log, and found the following interesting lines: 2008-09-12 08:04:57 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:05:26 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:06:11 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:06:57 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:07:52 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_register] status [503][Service Unavailable] session: n/a 2008-09-12 08:07:52 [WARNING] sofia_reg.c:1001 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_register() Registration Failed with status 503 2008-09-12 08:07:52 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_unregister] status [503][Service Unavailable] session: n/a 2008-09-12 08:07:54 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:139 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registering vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:07:54 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_register] status [503][Service Unavailable] session: n/a 2008-09-12 08:07:54 [WARNING] sofia_reg.c:1001 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_register() Registration Failed with status 503 2008-09-12 08:08:25 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:139 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registering vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 08:08:55 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_register] status [503][DNS Error] session: n/a 2008-09-12 08:08:55 [WARNING] sofia_reg.c:1001 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_register() Registration Failed with status 503 As you can see, the last successful registration is at 08:06am. The subsequent registration failed due to possible network drop out and DNS error. However, after 08:08am, the FS seems to completely drop out this SIP channel and not retrying at all. SIP message trace shows no registration message passed between the gateway server and FS. When this happens, the only resolution to this issue is to "sofia restart". When the Sofia profile is restarted, the registration will resume for a few days and then drop out. Here is the output after the Sofia restart: 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:688 sofia_profile_thread_run() Write unlock external 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:1530 sofia_reg_add_gateway() Added gateway 'diamondcard' to profile 'external' 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:1530 sofia_reg_add_gateway() Added gateway 'vitel-inbound' to profile 'external' 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:1530 sofia_reg_add_gateway() Added gateway 'vitel-outbound' to profile 'external' 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [NOTICE] sofia.c:1865 config_sofia() Adding Alias [outbound] for profile [external] 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [NOTICE] sofia.c:1875 config_sofia() Started Profile external [sofia_reg_external] 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:514 sofia_profile_thread_run() Creating agent for external 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:549 sofia_profile_thread_run() Created agent for external 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:577 sofia_profile_thread_run() Set params for external 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:598 sofia_profile_thread_run() activated db for external 2008-09-12 14:22:34 [DEBUG] sofia.c:625 sofia_profile_thread_run() Starting thread for external 2008-09-12 14:22:35 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:139 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registering vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 14:22:35 [NOTICE] sofia_reg.c:139 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registering diamondcard 2008-09-12 14:22:35 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_register] status [401][Unauthorized] session: n/a 2008-09-12 14:22:35 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:1095 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_challenge() Authenticating 'FreeSWITCH' with 'Digest:"sip.diamondcard.us":xxxx:xxxx'. 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia.c:197 sofia_event_callback() event [nua_r_register] status [401][Unauthorized] session: n/a 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:1095 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_challenge() Authenticating 'FreeSWITCH' with 'Digest:"asterisk":xxxx:xxxx'. 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:990 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_register() Changing expire time to 3600 by request of proxy sip:sip.diamondcard.us 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:990 sofia_reg_handle_sip_r_register() Changing expire time to 60 by request of proxy sip:inbound2.vitelity.net 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 14:22:36 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered diamondcard 2008-09-12 14:22:51 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 14:23:37 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 14:24:13 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound 2008-09-12 14:24:40 [DEBUG] sofia_reg.c:121 sofia_reg_check_gateway() registered vitel-inbound Any advice on this issue is greatly appreciated! Gateway issue!! ----- need help

Hi all, I need help on this urgently! I have a gateway configured - I have done everything mentioned on http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Getting_Started_Guide#Sample_Gateway_Config… If I configure my X-lite to register directly to the gateway, I can make a call but if I do originate sofia/internal/1001 sofia/gateway/net4india/13024301635 on FS the call fails, saying: freeswitch@Comp36> 2008-09-11 01:07:43 [INFO] mod_dialplan_xml.c:222 dialplan_hu nt() Processing FreeSWITCH->sofia/gateway/net4india/13024301635@default 2008-09-11 01:07:44 [NOTICE] switch_ivr.c:1098 switch_ivr_session_transfer() Tra nsfer sofia/internal/1001 to enum[sofia/gateway/net4india/13024301635@default] 2008-09-11 01:07:46 [INFO] switch_core_state_machine.c:114 switch_core_standard_ on_routing() No Route, Aborting 2008-09-11 01:07:46 [NOTICE] switch_core_state_machine.c:115 switch_core_standar d_on_routing() Hangup sofia/internal/1001 [CS_ROUTING] [NO_ROUTE_DESTINATION] 2008-09-11 01:07:46 [ERR] mod_xml_cdr.c:115 my_on_hangup() Error writing [C:\Pro gram Files\FreeSWITCH\log\xml_cdr\16151ab7-5698-2f49-9b0e-8e27221ce849.cdr.xml][ No such file or directory] 2008-09-11 01:07:47 [NOTICE] switch_core_session.c:807 switch_core_session_threa d() Session 1 (sofia/internal/1001) Ended 2008-09-11 01:07:47 [NOTICE] switch_core_session.c:809 switch_core_session_threa d() Close Channel sofia/internal/1001 [CS_HANGUP] Thanks a lot for help, Regards, Gayatri Kulkarni ----- Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Hangup detection
by msp 13 Sep '08

13 Sep '08

Hi all, I call outbound gateway using following dialstring: sofia/outbound/9122(a)192.168.1.29 here 192.168.1.29 is any SIP provider (e.g. asterisk) In case when the number 9122 is not registered on that provider, so provider hangup with SIP response "503 Service Unavailable". Now my query is that how to detect this sip response at our freeswitch side. And What if there is no response at all. fyi: I am using javascript for processing the calls. Thanks MSP

Re: [Freeswitch-users] mod_python post-processing after hangup
by Novak Joe 13 Sep '08

13 Sep '08

Hi, I received loads of useful hints on IRC yesterday regarding this problem, and as a result was able to come up with a decent solution which just involves using the API and 'runtime' functions to run my post-processing job in a thread after hangup. I don't think it is possible to pass objects via this method, but what I've worked out is sufficient for my needs. I also updated the wiki to include this example in hopes of saving the good souls at IRC from having to repeat this again. http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Mod_python#Run_something_in_a_thread_using_… I'd also appreciate it if someone could take a look at the wiki and confirm that the example I've described is appropriate. If possible, I'd also like to add something about usage of the API in general. I spent a good amount of time searching about on my own, but still ended up asking some pretty silly questions in this vein on IRC. I'm still a bit shaky regarding what is what, as the word API appears in many different places throughout the wiki but appears to refer to several different APIs. The mod_python API wiki entry refers to the Lua entry, and the Lua entry simply provides an example of how to instantiate a new API object, which is then followed by a lengthy section titled API: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Mod_lua#API which doesn't mention the executeString method anywhere except in the context of stream:write. The one I've actually been interested - I think! - is this guy, http://www.freeswitch.org/docs/class_a_p_i.html If I can get confirmation/further_explanation of this, I'll be happy to update the mod_python wiki accordingly, and hopefully stave off this particular variety of confusion in future! Cheers, Joe >IIRC, Anthony mentioned an elegant way of handling this not too long >ago, although it was with a different language. The gist of it was this: > >While (session.is.active) { > Do stuff >} >Do stuff after hangup > >Obviously you'll need to use Python-ish syntax but you get the idea. > >Alternatively you can research using the api_hangup_hook channel >variable and see if possibly this will let you do what you wish to do: >http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Channel_Variables#api_hangup_hook > >in any event, please report back what you tried and if you get it to >work please add it to the more samples section of the mod_python wiki >page since that needs a little love from the Pythoners out there.

Brian, Thanks for your advice. I will like to join FS on the IRC and to further learn from you and the FS team. What is the most effective way to set up an experimental FS environment so I can quickly move up the learning cureve? What Linux platform will you recommend? I also have access to Mac and Windows Vista platform.
