VAD and CN question
by Tamas 15 Sep '08

15 Sep '08

Hello, I've talked about CNG, VAD with Anthony and Brian already but I still have a mess in it and don't really know how it works. Could anybody explain the practical side of these magic options? 1. What does suppress_cng=true do exactly? (yep, I know it suppresses CNG, but what does this mean? Won't send out the CN/8000 rtpmap in SDP?) 2. What do VAD settings do in sofia profile? I've read http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Sofia.conf.xml What do these options do in practice? Can FS detect silence (e.g. no RTP?) and than what can it do with? 3. I found undocumented options rtp_enable_vad_in, rtp_enable_vad_out for sofia which might be the per call settings for point 2. ? If this is correct, what will this do? <action application="set" data="rtp_enable_vad_in=true"/> <action application="set" data="rtp_enable_vad_out=true"/> <action application="bridge" data="sofia/....."/> 4. What will FS do when one side of the bridge supports CN but the other doesn't? E.g. softphone->FS->GW (sends CN packets) the softphone does not support CN Would it be possible to turn on comfort noise generation in FS for the side which cannot handle CN? 5. Is it possible to let FS detect silence and on one leg send CN packets insted of RTP? E.g. softphone->FS->GW (sends CN packets) the softphone does not support CN, but for saving bandwidth it would be good to have silence detection and in case of silence FS lets send CN instead of RTP. Sorry for my dump questions, I would like to understand the whole picture. I would like to add the clarification to FS wiki to lets other have less troubles (with endpoints on one side supporting VAD/CNG and endpoints on other side not supporting VAD/CNG, e.g. CallWeaver) Thanks in advance! Regards, Tamas

Scripting language Lua vs. JavaScript (SpiderMonkey)
by Jon Bruel 15 Sep '08

15 Sep '08

I'm looking at the two scripting languages: Lua and JavaScript, and I would like some advice about their efficiency. I'm going to translate a relative complex Asterisk code to FreeSWITCH, and most of the code consists of decisions (GotoIf), channel variable manipulation and now and then with some simple database queries. Even if Lua might be slightly more efficient than JavaScript for the mentioned type of code, the general knowledge about JavaScript is better, thus reducing the learning curve of a development team. In the end, though, CPU-efficiency is very important, and I would like to know if any of you have comparisons when used in conjunction with FreeSWITCH? Further, using Lua, I would like to know if there is a way (library) to measure time down to milliseconds or microseconds?

call getting pre-answered
by Gayatri Kulkarni 15 Sep '08

15 Sep '08

Hi I am running this script: session.answer(); var fd = new File("temp.txt"); var buff = fd.read(10); console_log("notice","\nYou are trying to reach "+buff+"\n"); route = "sofia/gateway/net4india/"+buff; session.execute("bridge", route); session.waitForAnswer(5000); console_log("notice", "Disconnect cause: " + session.cause + "\n"); Freeswitch does get the number, originates a new hannel for it but it pre-answers the call !!!! I am not able to figure out why?!!!! if I read DTMF and bridge the call I.e. route = "sofia/gateway/net4india" + dtmf.digits; session.execute("bridge", route); It works perfectly fine! Openzap FXS Ports keep hanging up!

I have a Digium TDM400p and im using Zaptel 1.4.12.1. My problem is that calls between FXS channels get hung up almost immediately. I dont seem to understand why.It does not look like a freeswitch issue, maybe a openzap problem- maybe its using some sort of tone detection? Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Freeswitch-users] How to use Lua standard libraries

Well, Brian, you gave me the answer: "require and include just like any other lua script should work.", but I'm new the Lua - a dummy - and I haven't been able to Google it with just the right question, so please spell it out for me! What are the exact commands, and where do I find further information for similar issues? Jon
