Services/Assistnce Offered
by Shawn Lewis 01 Sep '06

01 Sep '06

Guys I would like to offer some possible assistance this project. As the original softswitch patents back in 1997 which I sold to Level 3, I now run the VoiceOne/VoIP Inc network and technology services. I would like to offer the following to help assist all the developers of this worthwhile project: Mirror Site for Development, Source code, and whatever Web Hosting of the site or mirror of it SIP, H323, SS7, MGCP, T1/PRI, etc 1 or 2 Development/Test Servers Input from my/our knowledge of pretty much all of the IP And telecom protocols, signaling, requirements etc Basically a home, and a location which can provide all the various necessary technical pieces which would allow live, real world development. Not sure who is the person to be contacting which is pretty much the maintainer of the project, but I think this would go a long way into providing faster realtime development and testing. As you may/may not be aware, we run our own softswitches and private networking. Take a look at www.voiceone.com, www.click4me.net, www.voipinc.com to get an idea. Additionally next week you will see major releases for us integrating yahoo, msn, gtalk voice into our IP backbone (all converted pretty much to SIP). So the we can help I think in various areas. Of major interest is the provisioning, OSS system, and routing systems. In any case, let me know who to speak too about this, and if it is of interest. Stability vs Features
by Vikram Rangnekar 01 Sep '06

01 Sep '06

I assume the goal here is to develop a carrier grade soft-switch. I understand features are great but features would cost us. As we add features the stability would degrade. I agree that adding C# support is an intresting idea but do we really need it adding mono into FreeSwitch I understand its a great thing for C# developers but mono is not super-stable. I personal opinion is to work towards defining a minimum set of features that are absolutely critical and then making those features stable and relatively bug free. In Freeswitch much of the features or protocol support is based on external libraries this can be a good thing and a bad thing too. Since each of those libraries would probably have bugs and that means making sure that those libraries are also actively maintained. -- Vikram Rangnekar

TODO List

OK Freeswitchers, Their are a few things we need to accomplish and together we can get there. 1. We would like someone to head up the Documentation team. The developers are more than willing to answer any and all questions you have, just we ask that you try to document what we answer either on our trac or voip-info. Any takers? 2. We would like someone to test and write more detailed installation instructions. 3. We on the development team want your input. Please stop by the conference or the IRC channel. 4. As for the mailing lists I can setup various ones for different languages. Just let me know. Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH.org

Hi James... This is great news for me and many others as I can se on this list... I will try your .Net mod ... and hopefully I can help out testing Regards, Martin -----Original Message----- From: James Martelletti [mailto:james@nerdc0re.com] Sent: 31. august 2006 12:14 To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Getting started on dev Martin, As for the general programming references, well you can find them anywhere through a search engine. As for docs related specifically to freeswitch, it's worth checking out http://www.freeswitch.org/docs/ You will be happy to know that I have been working on "Freeswitch.NET", what this contains is (at the moment) a mod_mono module which loads the mono runtime, and a managed library which enables Freeswitch modules to be written in any .NET supported languages (C#, VB, python, etc) and executed via mono. I have done a large amount of work on these modules and it is in a currently working state however not everything has been covered. I have been busy recently but I am trying to get together some documents so that anybody interested in C#/.NET will soon have direction and be able to help me complete the task. I'm sure you understand just how awesome Freeswitch will be once this module is complete ;) And for anybody interested, the code is currently in my svn branch "james/". Well, one thing I would like to offer up a COM/CHANNEL, like remoting, but a little more. One of the largest issue I see with Asterisk, was the requirement to run as a sole system, and not really distributed. If in fact this is to be a switch, then one should assume that say SS7 signaling should be on two separate "nodes", not part of the physical system the s/s is on, as well as the s/s should be redundant in processing, and possible a routing system should be distributed. Take your .NET registration to the various interfaces, then "Add-in" a serializable communication link between nodes, so actual applications, or services could exist on other boxes/nodes, (eg: TDM Gateway), or IVR, or signaling..... It would allow developers to develop applications without actually having to have a switch, but simply register up to the host/softswitch and all eventing, procedural calls would be done over line protocol.. This is much in the way how real switches work today, cisco, sonus, etc... Thoughts? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Shawn Lewis slewis(a)caerus.net Chief Technology Officer VoIP, Inc www.voipinc.com Phone: (407) 389-3232 Fax: (407) 215-5410 -----Original Message----- From: James Martelletti [mailto:james@nerdc0re.com] Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 9:35 AM To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Getting started on dev Shawn, Definitely, I hope to create a community within the community surrounding the .NET components. I was always holding out doing this project with asterisk because of the weekly instability and changes they go through, then Freeswitch came about, it was perfect and I ran with it. Many people are excited about this module and I can understand why, so over this weekend I'll try my best to put aside some time and write up some tutorials about what's been done, and what needs to be done. I will definitely be looking for help as this will be a pretty extensive project, requiring it's own documentation, tutorials and the like. The good thing though is that it's dead simple to create modules, below is a working example of a module (a port of the record function in mod_playback using some older ivr functions). Bear in mind that this is bytecode compatible, I currently build the stuff I'm working on using Visual Studio (also compiles with gmcs) and execute in Mono on Linux. using System; using System.Text; using Freeswitch; using Freeswitch.Modules; using Freeswitch.Types; namespace Record { public class Record : Module { public Record() { AddApplicationInterface(new RecordApplication()); Register(); } } public class RecordApplication : Application { public RecordApplication() { Name = "dotnetrecord"; Syntax = "dotnetrecord /file/name"; ShortDescription = "short description"; LongDescription = "long description, long description, long description"; ApplicationFunction = new ApplicationFunction (RecordApplicationFunction); } public Status OnDtmf(CoreSession session, string input, InputType inputType, string buffer, int bufferLength) { if (inputType == InputType.INPUT_TYPE_DTMF) { string dtmf = input; Console.WriteLine("Digit {0}", dtmf); if (dtmf.Contains("*")) { return Status.False; } } return Status.Success; } public void RecordApplicationFunction(CoreSession coreSession, string data) { if (Ivr.RecordFile(coreSession, null, data, new InputCallbackFunction(OnDtmf)) != Status.Success) { coreSession.Channel.PerformHangup(); } } } } On 31/08/2006, at 10:56 PM, Shawn Lewis wrote: > Guys I think this terrific !!! > > If in fact .NET functionality/MONO will exist, there is MUCH for us > to be able to help/provide to this group. > > > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Shawn Lewis > slewis(a)caerus.net > Chief Technology Officer > VoIP, Inc www.voipinc.com > Phone: (407) 389-3232 > Fax: (407) 215-5410 > > -----Original Message----- > From: James Martelletti [mailto:james@nerdc0re.com] > Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 8:33 AM > To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org > Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Getting started on dev > > Van, > > Modules that are written in .NET will have full access to the .NET > framework, and the features therein, so that means ASP.NET, SOAP, > ADO, or can use other existing libraries like NHibernate, etc and > also marshals data between the unmanaged Freeswitch process and the > managed module. What this means is that Freeswitch modules written in .NET will have the full capability of their C/C++ counterparts. My branch has been synced with trunk as of a couple of weeks ago, but once checked out you may use the svnmerge tool and run "svnmerge merge" to update to trunk. There are Makefiles in both src/dotnet/ and in the src/mod/dotnet/ projects, you will need to create these assemblies manually, as well as adding "languages/mod_mono" to modules.conf when you build. You will also need mono installed as the build system does not take care of this yet. Thanks, James On 31/08/2006, at 10:08 PM, Van Hui wrote: > > Dear James > > It is a very encouraging news. Initial Startup

List, I tried asking this on IRC but email seemed easier to explain everything: I'm trying to setup Freeswitch to pass traffic strictly from SIP to SIP. I want to allow traffic only from static IP's that I define and block all others. When a call comes in from an IP that is allowed, the call should process and be sent out to one of our Asterisk servers that has PSTN connectivity. I guess my question is... How do I do this? Here is what I have so far. From what I understand, it should pretty much be saying: IF IP == 70.159.49.36 AND dst == 13523985807 then call 3523985807(a)66.118.164.51. <extension name="skynet" continue="true"> <condition field="network_addr" expression="70.159.49.36"/> <condition field="destination_number" expression="13523985807"> <action application="bridge" data=" exosip/3523985807(a)66.118.164.51"/> </condition> </extension> Am I even half way correct in my XML? I get 404 not found as shown below with this setup. 0.000000 70.159.49.36 -> 70.159.49.41 SIP/SDP Request: INVITE sip:13523985807@70.159.49.41, with session description 0.001979 70.159.49.41 -> 70.159.49.36 SIP Status: 100 Trying 10.001208 70.159.49.41 -> 70.159.49.36 SIP Status: 404 Not Found 10.001783 70.159.49.36 -> 70.159.49.41 SIP Request: ACK sip:13523985807@70.159.49.41 If it's not obvious enough, I'm a super newbie. Hi, I installed FreeSwitch successfully on Windows 2000 SP4, enabled portaudio module and set my dialplan param to "Regex/XML Dialplan".
