OK Freeswitchers, Their are a few things we need to accomplish and together we can get there. 1. We would like someone to head up the Documentation team. The developers are more than willing to answer any and all questions you have, just we ask that you try to document what we answer either on our trac or voip-info. Any takers? 2. We would like someone to test and write more detailed installation instructions. 3. We on the development team want your input. Please stop by the conference or the IRC channel. 4. As for the mailing lists I can setup various ones for different languages. Just let me know. Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH.org

That's prolly biting off more than I can chew simply because I don't want to make promises I may not be able to keep. But I will pitch in as we discussed earlier today starting with getting the bits from Anthony's Cluecon presentation written down.

Excellent. I will gladly take you up on your offer.

I prefer sticking the info on trac.freeswitch.org. Imho there's no need to scatter info around the Net like with Asterisk. To me it makes sense that if you need information about FreeSWITCH you go to freeswitch.org. One site, the whole enchilada.
Any takers?
/me waves Don't want to put too much pressure on docelmo but the high quality video of Anthony's presentation and his presentation will be quite helpful.

What part of "./configure && make installall" do they not understand :) Seriously, it's a breeze to build and install FreeSWITCH on Linux (kudos to who made the script). Don't know about Microsoft or other platforms though. There's always room for improvement. "Edit modules.conf and adjust to taste" will be a bit of a challenge when one has no clue what they do and if they are required. But nothing a quick chat on the conf or irc can't fix.
3. We on the development team want your input. Please stop by the conference or the IRC channel.
Since you are asking, mod_capi would be nice so I can stick FreeSWITCH on a box with an Eicon Diva Server card. Learning and documenting on the job so to speak.
4. As for the mailing lists I can setup various ones for different languages. Just let me know.
Looking at the deafening silence on the asterisk-doc list it's probably an idea to keep documentation talk on the main list. Hopefully that will create more traction and involvement from the community. And people can learn from it. Regards, Patrick

+1 I've pointed Armin Schindler (mod_capi dude) in the direction of FreeSWITCH a couple of times, but he got the impression it wasn't a very active project... how, I don't know... I'd very much like to get some support for ISDN BRI, and in particular the Eicon cards in FreeSWITCH. I have a bunch of OpenPBX boxes deployed running Divas cards with up to four BRI circuits.
I would love to see mod_capi also. We are very hardware agnostic and won't twist your arms to lock you into some hardware. We like to have options and the more the better in my opinion. Because not all hardware fits every situation. But if you're going to do mod_capi I would love to see US ISDN-BRI support also. We are also in the market for a new PRI library... does anyone have any takers? I know the VISDN stuff is out there but I don't think it does anything on US PRI yet? Has this changed? Great. I have sent Armin an email already (before I saw Daniel's reply) to see if he is interested in creating a mod_capi. If he needs more info I'll direct him to the conf so he can chat with you guys and get a better idea about the project.

The current chan_capi is US/Euro ISDN agnostic. You just have to specify how many controllers/channels you have in the conf. Same applies to the drivers that need to be configured with the appropriate ISDN standard. Euroisdn versus US 5ESS for example. Eicon cards & drivers support both Euro and US ISDN.

The mISDN modules & libs support HFC-S chipset based cards. The developer is SUSE's Karsten Keil. chan_misdn is being developed by Christian Richter from Beronet in Germany. Last week I heard that Beronet, besides 4 and 8 port ISDN cards, now also has an E1 card. Looking on http://www.colognechip.com I don't think it supports T1. It doesn't look like vISDN supports T1 either. Regards, Patrick
Well the vISDN pri stack doesn't specifically have to support T1's that is done in hardware (or software in some cases). We just need to find a PRI stack that is License compatible. Remember we are MPL 1.1 /b On Aug 30, 2006, at 9:35 PM, Patrick wrote:

Let me clarify we do use libpri now but its not license compatible. And I don't want to give anyone a reason to complain about it. The viral nature of the GPL is why we chose not to use it. /b On Aug 30, 2006, at 10:50 PM, Daniel Swarbrick wrote:

I am interested and I already planned to do capi for freeswitch. But I cannot tell when I have the time... I hope the next 3 months will give me some spare time. Contacts to some guys who might help to start with the freeswitch interface and internals would be great.

Yes, since capi is a common API, it works with BRI and PRI and with every ISDN protocol, including QSIG (with extensions). mISDN also has a CAPI interface, so this can be used then as well. And we also have remote-capi already... I'm very interested in running freeswitch in an embedded system and I need it to be cross-compiled as well. Is that already working? Also, can someone tell if freeswitch (and the needed libs) are POSIX API comaptible? Armin
Hehe we have put some work into the build system. It does the same thing on Windows and on the Mac under xcode. On all of those it will download and install all the dependancies for you, granted the xcode isn't 100% done yet. But the standard "./configure && make installalll" does work just as good on the Mac (Both PPC and Intel). But honestly any help is greatly appreciated. In addition if you do contribute please provide a patch to the CREDITS file we'll be sure to include your name and provide a thank you. Thanks, Brian On Aug 30, 2006, at 8:03 PM, Patrick wrote:

Hello, After carefully thinking about whether I will actually have the time to contribute, I decided that I could assist with the documentation, until I get acquainted enough with the software to test various cases/scenarios or even write some code for it (I'm new to the group, too). I don't know if there is enough work for two people to work on documentation, so, if Patrick alone is enough, I could just assist in case he doesn't have time, or if there are documentation workload peaks. Hi Brian, We are new to the Freeswitch group and would like to install and use the application. We tried the Linux download but it gave lot of errors and then we tried the .msi files for windows version as certain .dll are missings. Could you please provide me some pointers how we can have a smooth download and if there is working demo available to check out the look and feel and the features it is presently offering. We have a very strong team working on Asterisk and related open source products and can come handy once we have established setup of Freeswitch product. Manash, 1. Make sure you have wget, svn, svnversion and gmake and they are in your path. svn co http://svn.freeswitch.org/svn/freeswitch/trunk freeswitch.trunk cd freeswitch.trunk ./configure make installall It should be pretty painless from this point forward. If you can provide me the errors and i'll see what's up. I think Mike is reworking the windows build system at the moment. The current freeswitch.msi should not have any missing dll's except for the possible exception of the C runtime. As I do not build a full installer right now, you may need to install the C runtime, if it is not already installed on your pc. The link to download this is: http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/3/4/d342efa6-3266-4157-a2ec-517 4867be706/vcredist_x86.exe As for the linux download, what kinf of errors did you have, the install should be very simple. There is a quick getting started building guide available at: http://www.freeswitch.org/gettingstarted.html Please let us know if you have any more problems either via the mailing list, or feel free to stop by the irc channel or the conference. Good luck. Mike
