I am assisting in the development of an IVR platform for a CLEC. They have not decided on a platform and I have suggested Freeswitch. They want me to evaluate and compare with some other options. I do not have commercial launch experience with Freeswitch and I would like to stay with an open source platform. I have launched services on Asterisk and have already recommended against using that as their platform. I do have the information from the FAQ, but it would be helpful to have additional data on load and scalability. Any help would be appreciated. Jonathan Augenstine jaugenstine(a)gmail.com

IMHO, along with a rewritten source base and an up-to-date port to Windows, the fact that PCI cards are supported would definitely be a major selling point for Freeswitch as compared to Asterisk. Few new additions to FreeSWITCH
by Brian West 13 Oct '07

13 Oct '07

Dear FreeSWITCHers, Over the past few days we have been very busy putting some finishing touches on various parts of FreeSWITCH as we approach beta2. Here are couple of new modules and features that have been added: mod_voicemail - You guessed it a full featured voicemail system. mod_fifo - simple FIFO parking queue that can be used to accomplish very power things. We have also tweaked a few behaviors in mod_enum to facilitate ISN lookups. You can now call 888*543 and call our conference via ISN. Please feel free to download, test and beat it up to flush out any bugs and report them on jira.freeswitch.org Please feel free to document anything that might be missing on wiki.freeswitch.org Thanks, Brian West FreeSWITCH.org

The default settings on FS is for 1000 calls with proper ulimit executed. I think you can change the Defaults but at this point though you’ll have to consider the HW /and as a rule MORE -> BETTER/. try playing with the code on line 968 of switch_ivr_play_say.c #ifndef WIN32 #if __BYTE_ORDER == __BIG_ENDIAN if (!asis) { switch_swap_linear(write_frame.data, (int) write_frame.datalen / 2); } #endif #endif erase the ifdefs and change it to #if 0 if (!asis) { switch_swap_linear(write_frame.data, (int) write_frame.datalen / 2); } #endif try it with both #if 0 and #if 1 and compare the results. OpenZAP for Windows?
by Vincent 12 Oct '07

12 Oct '07

Hello Since FreeSwitch is available for Windows, is OpenZAP also available for Windows, and could be used as a driver to eg. the OpenVox PCI card that I have to connect the box to the PSTN? I never understood why Digium et al. didn't provide Windows drivers for its PCI cards. Thanks V.
