Improving FreeSwitch/PocketSphinx Recognition Accuracy With Signal Pre-Processing.
by mszlazak＠aol.com 10 Nov '08

10 Nov '08

I have recently read an article on improving recognition accuracy of any speech recognition system (http://www.google.com/patents?id=mZ2jAAAAEBAJ&dq=Pattern+recognition+accura…) where the voice input signal, x, has two modified copies made of itself before reaching the recognition engine. The 3 lists of possible utterances derived from each of these signals is looked at to determine the best choice for what the utterance could have been. This technique is claimed to reduce recognition errors up to 80% and obviously will slow down performance but is implemented in call centers that utilize Fluency Voice technology. The technique seems simple. Basically, one variant of the original voice signal, x, is "expanded" or amplified in a nonlinear way so that weaker signal component strengths are magnified more so than stronger ones. In the other variant, the signal x is expanded so that stronger signal component strengths are magnified to a greater extent than weaker ones. Also, there are gain factors applied to these new signals to account for overall signal strength changes. At least that's my take on the article. The formula used for signal expansion is just a simple power function of the form y = g*x^c, where y is the new signal, g is the gain factor and c is the the power. Expected values of c vary from 0.6 to 1.4 and g is around 20 for c=0.6 and g=0.1 for c=1.4 (See the cited article for more details). Now, this is just one example and there maybe better or other ways to do improve pocketsphinx (PS) accuracy for phone signals. So my interest is about ways one could do pre-processing of signals in FS before they "hit" pocketsphinx. I presume that the generated lists are an issues that PS folks would have to help me with. Any guidance on this and how to implement some form of signal pre-processing in FS would be much appreciated. Mark.

BODY { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px; }Hello, I am glad to announce the start of our book - Beginning an Affair with FreeSwitch We had earlier written similar book for Asterisk and have got very good response. We anticipate good response from the fellow FreeSwitch community members to help us improve this book. This book is specially targetted towards those crowd, who are good with installing things on Linux but want to learn how FreeSwitch can be installed, what are the possible configuration etc etc. Neverthless this work would be derived from the http://wiki.freeswitch.org/ [1] but since this wiki has everything for everyone, it becomes really confusing for new users to get started. I hope that other members dont see this is as replication, it is rather targetted to a different audience (and rather more of the Indian Developers who would want to have a more local touch) Enough said, here is where the action is happening : http://pbx.in/beginning-an-affair-with-freeswitch http://pbx.in/freeswitch-forum-india Please do visit and comment, we solicit any and all sort of helping hand from every member of community. Question about usage of mod_java
by I Ki 10 Nov '08

10 Nov '08

Hi,I've been testing the usage of mod_java and reading Freeswitch documentation but been having some problems which I think might even be something very simple which I've missed. Hope some could give a hint..mod_java installation has gone through successfully and mod_java.so is compiled and installed. Configuration files java.conf.xml and dialplan are configured as instructed in http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/JavaCompilation of the Java example in the same page is successful (CLASSPATH included freeswtich.jar of course). Problem comes when I try to initiate the script via dialplan - that is I'm trying to make a call to an extension which then calls this example script (dialplan says: <action application="java" data="PhoneTest arg1 arg2 arg3"/>).Error message gives me:Exception in thread "Thread-1" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: /usr/local/freeswitch/scripts/PhoneTest at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:242) at org.freeswitch.Launcher.launch(Launcher.java:65)I presume this means that the script is called invalid manner? I've been trying to call the PhoneTest with full path, locating it together with freeswitch.jar, creating a directory PhoneTest just name it.Documentation does not say if the Java binary needs to be in certain location or not - is there amandatory location for it? What else am I doing wrong? Nic <br /> Chat online and in real-time with friends and family! xml_curl ...

Hello, I have a question re: xml_curl ... if I reply with this (from the /tmp/ file created by fs after xml_curl debug_on): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> <document type="freeswitch/xml"> <section name="dialplan" description="FS RESPONSE"> <context name="public"> <extension name="7135454263"> <condition field="destination_number" expression="7135454263"> <action application="set" data="hangup_after_bridge=true"/> <action application="set" data="call_timeout=180"/> <action application="set" data="proxy_media=true"/> <action application="set" data="pass_rfc2833=true"/> <action application="set" data="accountcode=TEST" /> <action application="set" data="origination_caller_id_name=NULL" /> <action application="set" data="origination_caller_id_number=7135454263" /> <action application="set" data="effective_caller_id_name=NULL" /> <action application="set" data="effective_caller_id_number=7133000522" /> <action application="set" data="sip_h_P-Asserted-Identity=<sip: + 17133000522(a)4.71.122.214;user=phone>" /> <action application="bridge" data="sofia/internal/ 7135454263(a)4.71.122.250" /> <action application="bridge" data="sofia/internal/ 7135454263(a)4.71.122.131" /> </condition> </extension> </context> </section> </document> FS sends call to sofia/internal/7135454263(a)4.71.122.250 (which returns a 404) but does not send to the next "action". Somewhat of a FS newbie but I thought this should work ... looking at the log files I can see this: 2008-11-07 11:45:00 [DEBUG] switch_core_state_machine.c:140 switch_core_standard_on_execute() sofia/external/8885551000(a)4.71.122.250Execute bridge(sofia/internal/ 7135454263(a)4.71.122.250) but it does not do the same thing to the next "action" -- <action application="bridge" data="sofia/internal/7135454263(a)4.71.122.131" /> Any thoughts? Thanks for any help! SR

Recommendations on ATA's for WinXP and motherboard.
by mszlazak＠aol.com 08 Nov '08

08 Nov '08

I would appreciate some recommendations on ATA (analogue telephony adapters) of either external (e.g. Sipura 3000 which has been updated to a Linksys box) or internal (Digium 410) type. This would be for a home test system with one phone line running FS on Windows XP on a motherboard with shared interrupts (ASUS P5E-VM HDMI). I would like external ATA's over internal ones but will go the latter if need be. Will the shared interrupts be a big problem? What are good choices for this set up and approximate prices?

[freeswitch-users] Grandstream ATA configuration
by jonathan augenstine 08 Nov '08

08 Nov '08

Has anyone interfaced Freeswitch with any of the Grandstream ATAs? If so, are there any issues that a user needs to be aware of, prior to install? I have a customer who is installing Freeswitch with a Grandstream ATA and interfacing that to an Avaya PBX. Any heads up on potential issues would be greatly appreciated. Jonathan
