New Debian FS vanilla install fails
by Sean Devoy 04 Mar '20

04 Mar '20

HI all, I have a new Debian 8.1 (32 bit) server for testing. I first did an apt-get install curl then per the instructions here: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Debian+7 I did this: echo "deb http://files.freeswitch.org/repo/deb/debian/ `lsb_release -sc` main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/freeswitch.list curl http://files.freeswitch.org/repo/deb/debian/freeswitch_archive_g0.pub | apt-key add - apt-get update apt-get install freeswitch-meta-vanilla It runs for less than a minute and dies at: Setting up freeswitch-sysvinit (1.4.19~10~1-1~jessie+1) ... See 'systemctl status freeswitch.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details. invoke-rc.d: initscript freeswitch, action "start" failed. dpkg: error processing package freeswitch-sysvinit (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Setting up freeswitch-systemd (1.4.19~10~1-1~jessie+1) ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of freeswitch-init: freeswitch-init depends on freeswitch-sysvinit (= 1.4.19~10~1-1~jessie+1); however: Package freeswitch-sysvinit is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing package freeswitch-init (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured and ends shortly with: Errors were encountered while processing: freeswitch-sysvinit freeswitch-init E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I ran the cmds it says: systemctl status -l freeswitch.service * freeswitch.service - freeswitch Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/freeswitch.service; disabled) Active: failed (Result: start-limit) since Wed 2015-06-17 17:11:15 EDT; 18min ago Jun 17 17:11:15 fstest.devoy.us systemd[1]: freeswitch.service: control process exited, code=exited status=1 Jun 17 17:11:15 fstest.devoy.us systemd[1]: Failed to start freeswitch. Stumped by mod_portaudio permissions issue
by Mark Haun 02 Feb '20

02 Feb '20

I built freeswitch version 1.7.0+git~20150730T192909Z~ab7f83c654~32bit for my ARM-based home server (an NVIDIA Jetson board), with the intention of using mod_portaudio with a wireless USB headset for my main home phone. It works well when running freeswitch directly as root, but when I configured freeswitch to run at system startup, mod_portaudio could no longer find any audio devices. No problem, I thought, it's a simple permissions issue. I am using the example debian init script from the wiki (this is a Jessie install with SysV init rather than systemd). It runs freeswitch as user freeswitch, group daemon using the -u and -g command-line options. So I added "freeswitch" to the audio group, then used sudo to verify that I could play sound files with "aplay" as the freeswitch user. That worked, but it did not solve the mod_portaudio failure. Thinking there must be an issue with portaudio separate from ALSA, I fetched and built the "pa_devs" utility which enumerates and prints the available audio devices. (This is basically what mod_portaudio is doing on startup.) Running as the freeswitch user, that worked too. Hmmmm. I tried running freeswitch from the command line using sudo rather than the -u and -g options, i.e. $ sudo freeswitch /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc and that worked as well! Then I started experimenting with -u and -g and discovered that $ /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc -u freeswitch allows mod_portaudio to load correctly, whereas $ /usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch -nc -u freeswitch -g daemon causes mod_portaudio to fail. Can anyone explain what's happening here? In both cases the process UID, GID, EUID, EGID, FUID, and FGID are the same (freeswitch:daemon) as displayed with "ps xao pid, uid, gid, euid, egid, fuid, fgid". Could this be a bug in freeswitch? There are a couple of threads from 2-3 years ago in the archives, where mod_portaudio permissions issues were never resolved and the solution remained a mystery. For the time being I guess this (not using -g) is a workaround, but I'd sure like to understand what is going on. Mark

Has anyone encountered this kind of problem ? I have a pcap if necessary... Thanks, -- Regards, Mirko

[mod avmd][1.6.X vs 1.8.X]
by Bilal Abbasi 22 Mar '19

22 Mar '19

Hi Users, I was using mod_avmd in FreeSWITCH version 1.6.20, it was working really well, but now as i shifted to new version i noticed that VM detection number get dropped. While investigating i noticed that the default parameters in 1.8.2 avmd.xml.conf are unable to detect the attached beep sound while 1.6.20 was able to detect that, i tried to change certain parameters in the avmd.xml.conf file but no luck. I was wondering if somebody has used avmd on 1.8.X and have the correct parameters/values OR can somebody point me the right direction to detect the attached file. Regards Bilal Abbasi

MOD_CALLCENTER become unload and unknown while freeswitch is still running
by Chhorm Chhatra 20 Mar '19

20 Mar '19

Hi, Currently, I faced a very strange issue that 1) After several days of FreeSWITCH running, I could not connect to its CLI at all. But Freeswitch is still working as it is. I have to tail the log file to debug this issue. 2) When the issue (1) happens, the application *callcenter *is unknown and therefore the callcenter failed. FS version: 1.6 Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Chhorm Chhatra

Option to log registrations/deregistrations?
by mario_fs 19 Mar '19

19 Mar '19

Does anyone know if there is something I can do to log device registrations, and more importantly when devices lose registration, without having a ton of other log data. I know I can turn on a higher level of diagnostics, but it may be several days before I find what I need and don’t want to flood the log. I am working with Counterpath on Bria Push service and need to find when their push server stops registering. Since they don’t send a notification for that and it’s not in the normal FS log, I may not know for days when this happens. It would be nice to be able to scan the log for lost registrations. Thanks! Variable no longer showing in channels
by Rick Jarvis 07 Mar '19

07 Mar '19

I got this working (with the help of this list) some time ago, but for some reason it seems to have stopped working. I’m setting a variable ‘callsubject’ in the dialplan via httapi, for which I added a column in the channels table: ALTER TABLE channels ADD COLUMN callsubject VARCHAR(256) <action application="httapi" data="{url=https://server/${destination_number}}”/> <action application="log" data="CRIT callsubject: ${callsubject}”/> And yet, whilst the column shows up in ’show channels’, the leg in question has an empty value. What am I missing, maybe?

Call hold issue
by igor.potjevlesch＠gmail.com 04 Mar '19

04 Mar '19

Hello, I have a weird behaviour with a call hold scenario. When the customer on leg A is placing the call on-hold (by sending a RE INVITE with sendonly attribute in the SDP), Freeswitch is switching to hold: "Callstate Change ACTIVE -> HELD". But only on the leg A. The holding is not forwarded to the leg B. So, it causes the called party not to hear the Music On Hold generated by the calling party. Any idea of what could result in this behaviour? Regards, Igor.

iPhone (AMR) to PSTN (G.711) silent call issue - dropped
by Stefano Bertuola 28 Feb '19

28 Feb '19

Hi experts. I am using FS for transcoding a call between an iPhone (AMR codec used) to a Cisco 880 Voice simulating PSTN (a legacy phone is connected here). A call is initiated by iPhone and terminated to the fixed phone; if the B side is silent (VAD enabled), the Cisco 880 stops sending RTP towards FS and, then, FS to iPhone. After 10sec not receiving RTPs, iPhone drops the call with "Reason: SIP;cause=200;text="RTP Timeout" ". I tried several options to make the FS not stopping sending RTPs towards iPhone or any other possibility to avoid this issue, but I was not able to get a workaround. Any idea? Br. Stefano
