Also, make sure you are not running any other software that may reserve the same port. I do a good amount of dev on a RHEL4 box and that problem does not exist. I don't think that is a problem with FreeSWITCH but the OS not releasing the port fast enough.... but trying the latest code and see if it still happens. /b On Jan 17, 2008, at 6:02 AM, B Karthik wrote: > Hi, > > I am a newbie to the wonderful freeswitch and linux world. Freeswitch listens on assigned SIP port sometimes but not always
by B Karthik 18 Jan '08

18 Jan '08

Hi, I am a newbie to the wonderful freeswitch and linux world. I compiled and installed freeswitch snapshot on Redhat Enterprise Linux Version 4. I changed the SIP configuration to listen on a different port. Everything worked fine initially. However when freeswitch is shutdown and restarted, it fails to listen on the port designated for SIP (5090 in my case). The problem occurs randomly i.ewhenever freeswitch is shutdown through any of the various methods (freeswitch -stop, shutdown command, kill). Surprisingly, it becomes fine after a few hours. Please help me to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance, B Karthik

Re: [Freeswitch-users] Event socket and commands/apis
by Anthony Minessale 18 Jan '08

When you execute a command you always get the reply to that command before anything else. This means that with something like the originate command you will have to wait for the call to establish media to get the reply. There are however 2 ways to get async results. The event socket uses the "api" command to interface with the FSAPI interface (for originate, show, etc), but there is also a bgapi command. When using bgapi, a unique id is generated and returned instantly as the result of the command and the desired command is executed in it's own thread. When that command is finished it fires the event SWITCH_EVENT_BACKGROUND_JOB If you are subscribed to that event you can check the header 'Job-UUID' and look for a match to the uuid you were given when you executed the command. The body of the event message will contain the command output. Also as of this week, since this was a useful feature, I also created the bgapi FSAPI function which is the same thing only implmented as an FSAPI command in mod_commands. This allows you to execute background jobs from the cli or xml-rpc etc. so with event socket you can send: bgapi show dialplan\n\n bgapi show dialplan Content-Type: command/reply Reply-Text: +OK Job-UUID: 3cd1c51e-dac4-4cfc-8567-3a440673feed if you are waiting for the background_job event you will eventually get: Job-UUID: 3cd1c51e-dac4-4cfc-8567-3a440673feed Job-Command: show Job-Command-Arg: dialplan Event-Name: BACKGROUND_JOB Core-UUID: d1a1f5b8-4f68-4406-97fa-89a597bb014a FreeSWITCH-Hostname: mera.tollfreeexpress.com FreeSWITCH-IPv4: 208.64.201.69 FreeSWITCH-IPv6: 127.0.0.1 Event-Date-Local: 2008-01-18%2009%3A18%3A25 Event-Date-GMT: Fri,%2018%20Jan%202008%2014%3A18%3A25%20GMT Event-Date-timestamp: 1200665905784042 Event-Calling-File: mod_event_socket.c Event-Calling-Function: api_exec Event-Calling-Line-Number: 559 Content-Length: 65 type, name dialplan, enum dialplan,XML dialplan, asterisk 3 total. SRTP-Support
by Alois Komenda 18 Jan '08

Hello, my question is: does FreeSWITCH support SRTP? I guess yes, because libsrtp is in the dependency list. But how do I configure FS to use SRTP? I did not find any hints in the documentation. Best Regards -- Alois Komenda Fraunhofer-Einrichtung für Systeme der Kommunikationstechnik ESK

by Anthony Minessale 17 Jan '08

17 Jan '08

We are gearing up on the final testing before the first release candidate for FreeSWITCH 1.0 here is a list of some of the newest features. A few new features have been developed in the last few months. We added: * SRTP support: Make calls with secure RTP * mod_spidermonkey_curl: Now you can get and post http data from javascript. * mod_dialplan_asterisk: A dialplan module similar to the asterisk dialplan syntax. * mod_cdr_csv: A templated CSV CDR module. * mod_tone_stream: Play tones anywhere a file can be played. * USER channel, a way to call a user in the directory as a channel. * mod_voicemail: a full featured enterprise scale voicemail application tied to the core directory that can be used with a local sqlite database or shared across multiple boxes with ODBC. It supports mutiple greetings, fully customizable keys for every function, fully customizable email template, ability to forward messages to your email once you have listened to them, urgent messages with accurate urgent/non urgant message counts in mwi and templatable ivr prompts via the FreeSWITCH phrase macro interface. *mod_limit: a small application to allow restriction of certian simotaneous resources in the dialplan which also works locally with sqlite and at an enterprise scale with ODBC. I was able to get my app running. I have run into an issue I have mentioned previously on the list but did not get a response from anyone. The behavior is this: an incoming call is detected, a prompt is played (streamFile), a database query is made, if the reply from the database is a null field for a destination phone number, another prompt is played (streamFile) and then digits are collected (getDigits). The digits collected are then dialed and the incoming/outgoing calls are bridged. The odd behavior I am encountering is that the second prompt plays but clips off the first 1 second of audio. I have checked the file and it is fine. Any idea on what the issue my be and what I can do to fix it? Thank you for your help.
