OpenVXML
by Tyler 20 Dec '06

Hello Everyone.... If you are building VoiceXML applications, you should check out openVoiceXML, the only open source visual development tool for VoiceXM OpenVXML is an open source GUI-Based IVR application development tool. The tool consists of an application designer (Visio-like) and a runtime that dynamically generates VoiceXML. OpenVXML is currently licensed under the Eclipse Public License and can be found under the VTP project on Eclipse.org.I www.eclipse.org/vtp There is a very helpful mailing list, documentation, and flash tutorials to assist you in getting started with the tool (links below). (Mailing List) http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.technology.voicetools/mail list.html (Documentation) http://www.eclipse.org/vtp/openvxml/Getting_Started.php (Flash Tutorials) http://www.eclipse.org/vtp/openvxml-announce/content/html/openvxml_demo. htm Listed below are 5 good reasons to check out OpenVXML 1) The openVXML media system allows developers to build branded media libraries with minimal effort that are simple to maintain. The development tool also supports inheritance between brands, which allows developers to do very little work when building multiple applications that are functionally similar, but require different caller experiences, such as when a retail application needs needs to support multiple lines of business (business and cosumer). 2) The framework provides built-in modules that support database reads and web service invocations without requiring custom coding. 3) Developers can extend the openVXML framework with custom modules to perform specific back-end integration methods like message bus, complex VUI tasks, or anything else possible in the Java language. 4)The framework contains an abstraction layer that allows it to be customized for any possible voice platform; it even has the ability to run on multiple VXML platforms concurrently, running against the same application. The runtime server and designer have been used with the Genesys Voice Portal (GVP, Voxeo's Prophecy, VoxPilot, BeVocal and OpenVXi. 5) The openVXML Studio exports Java web applications that run on any Java Servlets 2.3 compatible server, allowing users to deploy on anything from single Tomcat instances to massive clusters of WebLogic servers. Because the designer is Eclipse based, you can run it on Windows, MacOS, and most flavors of Linux. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Please let m know what you think of the tool. Thanx. C SAY API
by Anthony Minessale 20 Dec '06

Hi, I'm working on a muiti-lingual say api for ivr programmers to be able to generate audio for saying numbers, counting items or expressing amounts of things such as currency. I'd like some input from anyone who has some ideas on how to make sure we cover all bases. The basic idea is that we will have an api where each new language/implementation would provide it's own version of this function. switch_status_t say(char *tosay, switch_say_gender_t gender, switch_say_type_t type, switch_say_method_t method, switch_input_callback_function_t dtmf_callback, void *buf, uint32_t buflen); The enums are described in http://www.freeswitch.org/eg/say_api.c the idea would be something like switch_say_handle_t *en; en = switch_say_load("en"); switch_ivr_play_file(session, NULL, "/sounds/youhave.wav", NULL, NULL, NULL, 0); en->say("1000", SSG_ANY, SSM_PRONOUNCED, SST_MESSAGES, NULL, NULL, 0); switch_ivr_play_file(session, NULL, "/sounds/msgs.wav", NULL, NULL, NULL, 0); Thoughts? It is really a dirty little script, but it might be helpful in guiding a few people in the right direction. If you have any question please email me. http://pastebin.freeswitch.org/185 Next Step for the script: 1) clean it up. 2) Write sub functions for Error handling and Debugging 3) Write and interface with DB schema (I know this step is hard than it sounds) 4) Make dialplan section more dynamic (ditto) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Also to follow up, I used this imaginary api to design an imaginary high level counterpart for configuring prase flow from the xml registry: see: http://www.freeswitch.org/eg/say.xml a working draft on a way to use the config registry to build phrases by stringing together instructions in xml so you can call them from your ivr (voicemail etc) like in C switch_channel_set_variable(channel, "language", "en"); switch_core_session_execute_macro(session, "msgcount", 12); something like that... While it's imaginary it's much easier to code and change it around so provide feedback now =D Anthony Minessale II FreeSWITCH http://www.freeswitch.org/ ClueCon http://www.cluecon.com/ AIM: anthm MSN:anthony_minessale@hotmail.com JABBER:anthony.minessale@gmail.com IRC: irc.freenode.net #freeswitch FreeSWITCH Developer Conference sip:888@66.250.68.194 iax:guest@66.250.68.194/888 googletalk:freeswitch@gmail.com pstn:213-799-1400 ----- Original Message ---- From: Anthony Minessale <anthmct(a)yahoo.com> To: freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2006 4:21:19 PM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] [Freeswitch-dev] C SAY API pronounced would be like for 1400 pronounced would be: one thousand, four hundred iterated would be: one, four, zero, zero this could also possibly apply to dates etc Anthony Minessale II FreeSWITCH http://www.freeswitch.org/ ClueCon http://www.cluecon.com/ AIM: anthm MSN:anthony_minessale@hotmail.com JABBER:anthony.minessale@gmail.com IRC: irc.freenode.net #freeswitch FreeSWITCH Developer Conference sip:888@66.250.68.194 iax:guest@66.250.68.194/888 googletalk:freeswitch@gmail.com pstn:213-799-1400 ----- Original Message ---- From: Nikolay Kolev <me(a)nikolay.com> To: freeswitch-dev(a)lists.freeswitch.org; freeswitch-users(a)lists.freeswitch.org Sent: Saturday, December 16, 2006 6:47:44 PM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] [Freeswitch-dev] C SAY API The idea is great! With regards to the digits there are different formats around the world, 1,000,000 <- million 10,00,000 <- 10 Lakhs in india So a generic format for the number will be good, so in future if any new additions comes to the numbering system it will be easy to accomodate. [1] - unit [2] - tens [3] - hundreds [4-6] - thousands for india, [4-5] - Thousands [6-7] - Lakhs system will be good. A good analysis internationally will serve easier to expand the software internationally with less ease. If this flexibility is not sorted in the initial stage then user need to write own module to use in their country which I'm right now doing for asterisk, which is utter useless with the design of the application. Thanks.
