General voice mail boxes and other questions
by Damon Brown 10 Oct '08

Hello all, As a newbee but expert in other nameless PBX's, I was wondering the following: 1. What approach in the xml config files you would use to create general mailboxes that multiple extensions have access too and need indicators for? 2. I was using the directory.lua example located in the wiki to create a directory and it works up to the pount of matching the extension. Once the caller presses confirm for the name and it returns to "no directories match your search". I know this should be to the author of that example, but I was hoping someone may have experience with it. I do have mod_lua it runs through most of the logic, the example I used was: http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Examples_directory_lua 3. I would like to write a daemon that interfaces with freeswitch outside of the XML matching. For example, one that will connect to a DB, pick up a caller and send conference participants in based on their status. Is this possible or are do all scripts only run within the dialplan? Thanks for your time in answering these in advance. Best regards, Damon

Strange originate behavior in xml_rpc
by Noah Silverman 10 Oct '08

10 Oct '08

Hi, I've been testing some xml_rpc scripts to make calls. (For a "click to call" application I want to write.) I'm experiencing some strange behavior in regards to setting the caller id. If I DON't pass a caller id with the originate command, the calls works perfectly and the caller id shows as "000-000-0000". If I DO pass a caller id variable, then I still get a call ringing, the caller id is still "000-000-0000" and when I answer, it hangs up immediately and the debug in freeswitch shows an error. I'm getting a "407 Proxy Authentication Required" error. I'm trying to understand why setting a caller_id triggers an error when not setting one works. Could it be something setup wrong in my dialplan? Here is the effective part of the XML I'm passing to Freeswitch: <value><string>{effective_caller_id_number=3235551212,accountcode=1}sofia/internal/13235551111(a)outbound1.vitelity.net &bridge(sofia/internal/3135552222%111.111.111.111)</string></ value> Thanks, -Noah

Re: [Freeswitch-users] dialplan_hunt taking too long

Thanks for the tip with f8. I did a call from soft phone (x-lite) 1003 to extension 5000. This is the log: http://pastebin.freeswitch.org/5791 So it seems, that dialplan_hunt is ok. As you can see, there is a gap ~8 seconds between line 127 and 128. The PC is pentium 3, 1.8 GHz, which is pretty idle. It is running Debian etch x86 on kernel 2.6.18-6-686. I also made the same test on windows xp, and on other notebook running Debian Etch 64bit, and the gap was smaller (< 1-2 seconds). I also did run freeswitch using gdb, and after I dialled extension 5000, I waited for a few seconds, and then I hit ctrl+c and made backtraces from all threads: http://pastebin.freeswitch.org/5792 sample Wireshark trace on client side when dialling out extension 5000 (client is 163.242.69.92, server is 172.16.3.40): http://pastebin.freeswitch.org/5793 My guess would be the \'while\' inside switch_rtp_set_local_address(), but I prefer to hear the expert opinion :-). dialplan_hunt taking too long
by Ineya Ineya 10 Oct '08

Hi, I\'m currently trying freeswitch 1.0.1, and I found, that making a call seems to take quite a long time. My configuration is the default one, which comes with 1.0.1, I just changed IP to ipv6, but I also made tests in ipv4 and results are same. These are the traces, as you can see, dialplan_hunt takes 6 seconds until it answers (sometimes more). Is this normal? My machine is idle, there are no extensive tasks running. In wireshark I can see this gap between messages \\\"Trying\\\" and \\\"Notify\\\". Any ideas or hints? Insert CDR into Mysql
by Noah Silverman 09 Oct '08

09 Oct '08

Hi, I managed to write a really short perl script to insert cdr records into mysql. I wanted to share it with the group... Just call this from cron at whatever frequency you want to update your records. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A "QUICK AND DIRTY" SCRIPT. IT HAS NO BUILT IN ERROR CHECKING AND WAS JUST DESIGNED TO WORK FOR MY BASIC SETUP. YOU MAY NEED TO HEAVILY MODIFY IT TO WORK FOR YOU... -Noah ----------------------------------------------------------- #!/usr/local/bin/perl use DBI; use Text::ParseWords; #connect to database and define path to your log files $dbh = DBI->connect( 'DBI:mysql:freeswitch', 'username', 'password' ) or die "connect error"; $LOG_DIR = "/usr/local/freeswitch/log/cdr-csv"; #Make Freeswitch rotate the log files system("killall -HUP freeswitch"); #prepare the insert statement - You may have to change this depending on the log file definintion in your freeswitch config. $insert_sql = $dbh->prepare("insert into cdr (caller_id_name, caller_id_number, destination_number, context, start_timestamp, answer_timestamp, end_timestamp, duration, billsec, hangup_cause, uuid, bleg_uuid, accountcode) values (?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)"); #get a list of all the Master files with a datestamp on the end. (These are created when log files rotated above) @log_files = <$LOG_DIR/Master.csv.*>; #Loop through the files and insert into the table; foreach $file (@log_files){ print "$file\n"; open(IN, $file) or die "cant open $file\n"; while (<IN>){ ($caller_id_name, $caller_id_number, $destination_number, $context, $start_stamp, $answer_stamp, $end_stamp, $duration, $billsec, $hangup_cause, $uuid, $bleg_uuid, $accountcode, $read_codec, $write_codec) = quotewords(",", 0, $_);; $insert_sql->execute($caller_id_name, $caller_id_number, $destination_number, $context, $start_stamp, $answer_stamp, $end_stamp, $duration, $billsec, $hangup_cause, $uuid, $bleg_uuid, $accountcode); } #Delete the log file since we've finished with it. close(IN); unlink($file); }

Re: [Freeswitch-users] Load test - performance not even matching Asterisk
by Jon Bruel 09 Oct '08

09 Oct '08

Resolved: I have made further tests, and my final conclusion is that the previous stated test results were screwed by the application 'gentones'. This application does in some cases send more rtp than expected. If I used: <action application="gentones" data="%(5,0,300)"/> <action application="gentones" data="%(5,0,300)"/> <action application="gentones" data="%(60000,0,300)"/> the expected rtp of 8600 kB/s was transmitted. If I used <action application="gentones" data="%(60000,0,300)"/> <action application="gentones" data="%(5,0,300)"/> <action application="gentones" data="%(5,0,300)"/>. the rtp was 34600 kB/s, and the memory is heavily consumed. The only difference being the sequence of the gentones commands. I don't know if this is the expected behaviour of 'gentones' or not, but it certainly screwed up the results previously posted. /Jon

Sound file list
by Alex Kinch 09 Oct '08

09 Oct '08

Hi all, Don't suppose there's a list somewhere of all the FS default sound files? I'm in the process of attempting to convert my installation to British English, and could do with a reference. If there isn't one, I guess I could put one together and put it on the wiki - I assume mod_voicemail is the best place to start? Alex

Can't get ODBC working
by Alex Kinch 09 Oct '08

09 Oct '08

OK well I'm a bit stumped now. Having followed all the instructions, I can't get FS to use MySQL via ODBC for voicemail storage. Everything appears to work fine, isql allows me to connect to the MySQL database and show the test table I created, like so: isql -v voicemail_odbc voicemail [password edited out] I've configured FS with --enable-core-odbc, done make clean and make all install (twice now just to be sure. In voicemail.conf.xml I've got: <param name="odbc-dsn" value="voicemail_odbc:voicemail:[password edited out]"/> However, when I start FS it says: 2008-10-09 20:01:40 [ERR] mod_voicemail.c:598 load_config() ODBC IS NOT AVAILABLE! Any suggestions? Using the latest trunk (9916). Alex

Pause and Reset During Recording
by Robert Clayton 09 Oct '08

09 Oct '08

All, It was my understanding earlier that pausing during recording was not an option. According to the documentation "Javascript DTMF Callback Function" using Javascript allows four options while recording: true - keep recording false - stop pause restart Is it that pause or restart during record is a core function that can not be accessed from Lua? Thanks, Bob
