1.2stable not compiling on Mac OS X 10.9

All I am new to Freeswitch - I am not sure this is the right mailing list to post this message. Anyways, I followed the recipe/cookbook for Mac OS X 10.8 to get things going on my Mac OS X 10.9 Server edition mac mini, and it does not yield the expected results. ./bootstrap.sh and ./configure throw some warnings but they continue without problem. However, compiling freeswitch with make thereafter yields the following ungraceful exit / error message: /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -g -O2 -Wno-extended-offsetof -MT strlcat.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/strlcat.Tpo -c -o strlcat.lo strlcat.c libtool: compile: gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -g -O2 -Wno-extended-offsetof -MT strlcat.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/strlcat.Tpo -c strlcat.c -fno-common -DPIC -o strlcat.o strlcat.c:45:1: error: expected parameter declarator strlcat(char *dst, const char *src, size_t siz) ^ /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:44: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:39:62: note: expanded from macro '__darwin_obsz' #define __darwin_obsz(object) __builtin_object_size (object, _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL > 1 ? 1 : 0) ^ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:30:32: note: expanded from macro '_USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL' # define _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL 2 ^ strlcat.c:45:1: error: expected ')' /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:44: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:39:62: note: expanded from macro '__darwin_obsz' #define __darwin_obsz(object) __builtin_object_size (object, _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL > 1 ? 1 : 0) ^ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:30:32: note: expanded from macro '_USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL' # define _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL 2 ^ strlcat.c:45:1: note: to match this '(' /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:44: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:39:53: note: expanded from macro '__darwin_obsz' #define __darwin_obsz(object) __builtin_object_size (object, _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL > 1 ? 1 : 0) ^ strlcat.c:45:1: warning: type specifier missing, defaults to 'int' [-Wimplicit-int] strlcat(char *dst, const char *src, size_t siz) ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:44: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ /usr/include/secure/_common.h:39:31: note: expanded from macro '__darwin_obsz' #define __darwin_obsz(object) __builtin_object_size (object, _USE_FORTIFY_LEVEL > 1 ? 1 : 0) ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ strlcat.c:45:1: error: conflicting types for '__builtin___strlcat_chk' /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:3: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ strlcat.c:45:1: note: '__builtin___strlcat_chk' is a builtin with type 'unsigned long (char *, const char *, unsigned long, unsigned long)' /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:3: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ strlcat.c:45:1: error: definition of builtin function '__builtin___strlcat_chk' strlcat(char *dst, const char *src, size_t siz) ^ /usr/include/secure/_string.h:111:3: note: expanded from macro 'strlcat' __builtin___strlcat_chk (dest, src, len, __darwin_obsz (dest)) ^ 1 warning and 4 errors generated. make[4]: *** [strlcat.lo] Error 1 make[3]: *** [all] Error 2 make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all] Error 2 make: *** [libs/libedit/src/.libs/libedit.a] Error 2 I tried the same with the latest snapshot build, but there "make" does not even start, e.g. If I remember well ./configure is bitching about some problem with openssl. Any help is appreciated... Thanks Karel

Freeswitch v1.2.stable build fails on Ubuntu 11.10 x64

I've been using the following script for some time to build freeswitch on my machines. I recently edited the script to install openssl v1.0.1f, as that is now required it seems by this version of free switch. Here's my script: #!/bin/bash test "$BRANCH" != "" || BRANCH=v1.2.stable apt-get update apt-get install -y git-core subversion build-essential autoconf automake libtool libncurses5 libncurses5-dev make libjpeg-dev gawk apt-get install -y libcurl4-openssl-dev libexpat1-dev libgnutls-dev libtiff4-dev libx11-dev unixodbc-dev libssl-dev python2.6-dev \ zlib1g-dev libzrtpcpp-dev libasound2-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libperl-dev libgdbm-dev libdb-dev python-dev \ uuid-dev update-alternatives --set awk /usr/bin/gawk git clone -b $BRANCH git://git.freeswitch.org/freeswitch.git ############################################################### # INSTALL OPENSSL v1.0.1f ############################################################### wget http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/blfs/svn/openssl-1.0.1f-fix_paralle… wget http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/blfs/svn/openssl-1.0.1f-fix_pod_syn… wget http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.0.1f.tar.gz tar -zxvf openssl-1.0.1f.tar.gz cd openssl-1.0.1f patch -Np1 -i ../openssl-1.0.1f-fix_parallel_build-1.patch && patch -Np1 -i ../openssl-1.0.1f-fix_pod_syntax-1.patch && ./config --prefix=/usr/openssl101f -fPIC \ --openssldir=/etc/ssl \ --libdir=lib \ shared \ zlib-dynamic && make make install ############################################################## # INSTALL FREESWITCH ############################################################## cd .. cd freeswitch ./bootstrap.sh ./configure CFLAGS="-I/usr/openssl101f/include" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/openssl101f/lib" cat >modules.conf <<'EOL' applications/mod_commands applications/mod_conference applications/mod_db applications/mod_dptools applications/mod_enum applications/mod_esf applications/mod_esl applications/mod_expr applications/mod_fifo applications/mod_fsv applications/mod_hash applications/mod_httapi applications/mod_spandsp codecs/mod_amr codecs/mod_bv codecs/mod_g723_1 codecs/mod_g729 codecs/mod_h26x codecs/mod_vp8 codecs/mod_speex dialplans/mod_dialplan_asterisk dialplans/mod_dialplan_xml endpoints/mod_loopback endpoints/mod_sofia event_handlers/mod_cdr_csv event_handlers/mod_cdr_sqlite event_handlers/mod_event_socket formats/mod_local_stream formats/mod_native_file formats/mod_sndfile formats/mod_tone_stream languages/mod_lua languages/mod_spidermonkey loggers/mod_console loggers/mod_logfile loggers/mod_syslog say/mod_say_en xml_int/mod_xml_cdr xml_int/mod_xml_rpc xml_int/mod_xml_scgi EOL make cat >/etc/init.d/freeswitch <<'EOL' #!/bin/sh ### -*- mode:shell-script; indent-tabs-mode:nil; sh-basic-offset:2 -*- ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: freeswitch # Required-Start: $network $remote_fs $local_fs # Required-Stop: $network $remote_fs $local_fs # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5 # Default-Stop: 0 1 6 # Short-Description: FreeSWITCH Softswitch # Description: FreeSWITCH Softswitch ### END INIT INFO # Author: Travis Cross <tc(a)traviscross.com> PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin DESC=freeswitch NAME=freeswitch DAEMON=/usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch DAEMON_ARGS="-u freeswitch -g daemon -rp -nc -nonat" USER=freeswitch PIDFILE=/usr/local/freeswitch/run/freeswitch.pid SCRIPTNAME=/etc/init.d/$NAME WORKDIR=/usr/local/freeswitch/lib [ -x $DAEMON ] || exit 0 [ -r /etc/default/$NAME ] && . /etc/default/$NAME . /lib/init/vars.sh . /lib/lsb/init-functions do_start() { start-stop-daemon --start --quiet \ --pidfile $PIDFILE --exec $DAEMON --name $NAME --user $USER \ --test > /dev/null \ || return 1 ulimit -s 240 start-stop-daemon --start --quiet \ --pidfile $PIDFILE --exec $DAEMON --name $NAME --user $USER \ --chdir $WORKDIR -- $DAEMON_ARGS $DAEMON_OPTS \ || return 2 return 0 } stop_fs() { start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet \ --pidfile $PIDFILE --name $NAME --user $USER \ --retry=TERM/30/KILL/5 } stop_fs_children() { start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet \ --exec $DAEMON \ --oknodo --retry=0/30/KILL/5 } do_stop() { stop_fs RETVAL="$?" the wiki for installs on ubuntu, and give one authoritative method for installing on ubuntu. There are several paragraphs/scripts for installation on Ubuntu, and none of them seem to work for me.

Squelch Inband
by Avi Marcus 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

Hi -- I'm asking this again... Is there a way to squelch inband DTMF? I've got a carrier who's sending rfc2833 and usually inband. I'd try ignoring the rfc2833 and just using the inband, but it doesn't always have the inband. FreeSWITCH correctly ignores the inband, and all is fine, until I bridge to another system and that system will sometimes take both DTMF methods. Thanks, -Avi

Video Phones for hard of hearing - Request for Comments
by Sean Devoy 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

Hi All, I want to get peoples comments on their experience with Video Phones through FS. I saw a lot of discussion getting things ironed out and working, now I want to know what people think. My mom is significantly hard of hearing. Even with here top of the line $6K hearing aids she struggles in many environments. Telephones are a problem area, even though they all say Hearing Aid Loop compatible, they generally suck at it. The only solution I have found for her to date is a high quality conference room speaker phone and that is still with lots of "say that again." She does better in person because of the broader audio range and much better when she can see your mouth. So, I am wondering if a Video Phone or PC Video phone software are options? I realize it will only help when someone calls from a video phone. But, that takes care of ME calling her, everyone else can buy their own! Thanks for your input. Sean

Audio delays from conferences under heavy CPU load on Windows
by Markus von Arx 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

Hi I've got a nasty problem with FreeSwitch conferences: after some time, I observe that audio that goes through FreeSwitch conferences gets more and more delayed (by the FreeSwitch conferences). Sometimes it's only 2 seconds, but I have also observerd audio delays up to 5:30 minutes. Audio is never missing, only delayed, and even transmitted correctly after many minutes of delays. More details: - FreeSwitch 1.2.17, 64bit - OS: Windows Server 2012 64bit and Windows 7 64bit (observed on both platforms) - audio codec: G.711 alaw only - external channels: only SIP channels (mod_sofia), RTP with 20ms packets, G.711 alaw, all SIP endpoints in the local LAN on the same Ethernet switch. - dialplan: very very simple; only two actions: answer and connect every incoming/outgoing SIP channel directly to its private conference (mod_conference); and I set and export the following variables on all channels: rtp_disable_vad_in=true, rtp_disable_vad_out=true, send_silence_when_idle=-1, bridge_generate_comfort_noise=-1, suppress_cng=true - my own application: does some logic over mod_event_socket (on localhost); basically connects/disconnects these conferences using loopback channels (mod_loopback) -> simple example: two SIP channels from SIP users 1001 and 1002, dialplan creates two conferences 1001c and 1002c, my application connectes 1001c and 1002c with a loopback channel, audio from SIP user 1001 travels through SIP channel to FreeSwitch conference 1001c, then through loopback channel to conference 1002c, then through SIP channel to SIP user 1002. The audio delay I'm talking about is that what user 1001 speaks into his phone arrives at user 1002 N seconds later instead of almost immediately. - mod_conference config: rate=8000, interval=20, max-members=99, energy-level=0, *-sound="", comfort-noise=0, conference-flags=audio-always - mod_sofia: rtp-timer-name=soft, suppress-cng=true, vad=none - timer: soft timer (no other available on Windows) Usage scenarios: - failing scenario 1 (low load): 34 SIP channels, 34 conferences, 97 loopback channels, 228 FreeSwitch channel objects (34 + 2*97) -> ~24% CPU load -> audio delays only sometimes, a bit unpredictable, mostly none, but sometimes in the region of 2-3 seconds - failing scenario 2 (medium load): ... -> ~51% CPU load -> audio delays start slowly, in the region of 2-10 seconds, grow slowly with time while keeping channels and conferences alive - failing scenario 3 (high load): 66 SIP channels, 66 conferences, 385 loopback channels, 836 FreeSwitch channel objects (66 + 2*385) -> ~74% CPU load -> audio delays start almost immediately: 18 seconds delay after 15 minutes, 41 seconds delay after 3 hours, 5:30 minutes delay after 19 hours. => My guess: it could be that under heavy CPU load, the (soft) timers that are responsible for the RTP audio streams don't get fired reliably anymore but sometimes (often) too late.Theoretically this should not cause an ever increasing delay, as the next timer event after the delayed one should be queued a bit earlier. But still somehow the delay happens and it looks like the mixed RTP packets from the conferences are sent later and later and the delay is never recovered. => Any ideas? Is this a known issue? Maybe some combination of Windows, soft timers, high CPU load, loopback channels, disabled CNG/VAD, long running conferences? Maybe a FreeSwitch (timer) bug? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks and best regards, Markus

Freeswitch not sending 401 on register
by Stephen Thwaites 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

Hello, Registrations on my FS follow this pattern. Register Unauthorised 401 Register with Authorization 200 OK I have recently added another phone in another domain on the same profile and the first Register attempt follows the above pattern but thereafter (every 10 mins) the phone sends a register with the authorization already included, the 401 is not sent. I.e. Register with Authorization 200 OK I haven't modified any ACL, apply-register-acl is commented out in the internal.xml profile. I have studied the ACL page in the wiki, but cannot clarify this behavior. I also cannot find any settings in the sip phone either. Any insights would be appreciated? Small sip trace here, First Register is without 401 and the second with 401! Many thanks! codec configuration ignored by freeswitch
by Giuseppe Cardone 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

Hello, I have tried to configure a limited set of two codecs for outbound calls. I first tried with the parameters described in the documentation in a sip_profile and then in a dialplan and then in vars.xml. However, each time the set of codecs seems to be overwritten and the original list offered by the calling UA is applied. I am new to FS and suspect I am missing something quite simple, can anyone lend a hand in suggesting what would cause the described behaviour ? Here is the essential part of the log showing the absolute_codec_string first applied: EXECUTE sofia/internal/390742850020@217.72.102.128:5070 set(absolute_codec_string=PCMA,G729) 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] mod_dptools.c:1402 sofia/internal/390742850020@217.72.102.128:5070 SET [absolute_codec_string]=[PCMA,G729] EXECUTE sofia/internal/390742850020@217.72.102.128:5070 bridge(sofia/gateway/unidata_dev/+390144750000) 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] switch_channel.c:1198 sofia/internal/390742850020@217.72.102.128:5070 EXPORTING[export_vars] [RFC2822_DATE]=[Wed, 29 Jan 2014 17:17:40 +0100] to event 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] switch_ivr_originate.c:2060 Parsing global variables 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [NOTICE] switch_channel.c:1052 New Channel sofia/external/+390144750000 [e00a6dde-8900-11e3-8b08-0b2b96c9cf60] 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] mod_sofia.c:5231 (sofia/external/+390144750000) State Change CS_NEW -> CS_INIT 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] switch_core_session.c:1341 Send signal sofia/external/+390144750000 [BREAK] and then overwritten: 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] mod_sofia.c:5301 [zrtp_passthru] Setting a-leg inherit_codec=true 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] mod_sofia.c:5304 [zrtp_passthru] Setting b-leg absolute_codec_string='G722@8000h@20i@64000b,PCMU@8000h@20i@64000b,PCMA@8000h@20i@64000b,GSM@8000h@20i@13200b' 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] switch_core_state_machine.c:415 (sofia/external/+390144750000) Running State Change CS_INIT 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] switch_core_state_machine.c:454 (sofia/external/+390144750000) State INIT 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] mod_sofia.c:87 sofia/external/+390144750000 SOFIA INIT 2014-01-29 17:17:40.290655 [DEBUG] sofia_glue.c:2739 Local SDP: Thanks in advance for your help. copy variables from a-leg to b-leg
by mbo 05 Feb '14

05 Feb '14

When I bridge a call and I want to copy all variables from the a-leg to b-leg of a call I can use the „export“ function, and all variables are copied automatically. To implement call queueing I use another approach. On an incoming call I set some channel variables and then park the call. After that, I use originate to call (one or more) targets and in case a target gets answered I use uuid_bridge to connect both call legs together. The point is that the „export“ function does not work in that scenario. Is there another way to copy channel variables from one call leg to another? Thanks Markus
