Socket inbound or outbound with PHP?
by Dennis 27 Oct '08

27 Oct '08

Hi, I am new to freeswitch and found out quite a lot of things the past days. But there are still many questions left, which I can't figure out without some help. I want to use freeswitch for a project, where freeswitch should communicate with PHP-scripts and receive the messages to different events. I was told to use socket and found some quite helpful PHP-scripts in this mailing list. One was for using socket outbound, one was for socket inbound. I would like to ask, which direction is the best oder most reliable? When using socket outbound, freeswitch connects to the PHP-script, the PHP-script forks and is registered to "myevents" (events all seems to give me all events from all connections). One of the problems I have with "outbound" is, that I won't get all events. For example I do not get "hangup", because the socket connection seems to die, before freeswitch sends the last command when hanging up. With "ringing" the problem seems to be the same. I only get a "hangup", when I register to "events all" and have to active calls. When one of the two calls hangs up, i can see it by printing out all events in the PHP-script. When using socket inbound, the PHP-script does not fork and seems to handle all events for all calls. What, if a request hangs for one call? Do all the other calls have to wait, till the other call is killed? Another thing ist the events "heartbeat". Will I get the "heartbeat" for every single call or just one heartbeat for all calls? I feel that I am missing some basic knowledge about sockets and freeswitch. Could someone help to find the right way, please? Thanks and kind regards Dennis

custom data publishing module
by Juan Backson 26 Oct '08

26 Oct '08

Hi, I am working on developing a very simple custom mod that needs to push out data to an external HTTP service, similar to the way curl works. Does anyone have experience in writing a Freeswitch mod that pushes out data to an external HTTP server and can give me a hand? I am hoping to learn from any sample code that demonstrate how to use the lib available within Freeswitch to do that. The HTTP service that receives the data is the same one that handles the mod_curl requests. Therefore, I believe there must be functions/methods that I can invoke to send out data to. Thanks in advance for your help. JB

Problem with PlayAndGetDigits
by Keith Wood 26 Oct '08

26 Oct '08

Hi, I am finding some problems when using PlayAndGetDigits within lua. As seen in the log below, I set the retry count to '3' and valid digit to be 1,2,3, or 5. I pressed 9 for every retry attempt, and found that Freeswitch actually let me retry for more than 3 times. Moreover, Freeswitch reports DTMF of 99 is received even though I only pressed 9. At the end, it reports 99 as the final result. Does anyone know if this is a config problem or a bug? Thanks, Keith 2008-10-17 20:07:20 [DEBUG] mod_dialplan_xml.c:117 parse_exten() Regex: [test9] destination_number(rule) =~ /(.*)/ 2008-10-17 20:07:20 [NOTICE] switch_core_session.c:1219 Multiple actions for bind_meta_data app
by Woody Dickson 26 Oct '08

26 Oct '08

Hi, I would like to know if the following scenario is possible with Freeswitch: A connection is established between two endpoints ( soft phones). On one end, someone presses *1, a BEEP that indicates the beginning of recording is heard, and then Freeswitch starts to record. I can get recording to work with the following line from wiki: <action application="bind_meta_app" data="2 a s record_session::$${base_dir}/recordings/${caller_id_number}.${strftime(%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S)}.wav"/> In order to generate the BEEP tone, I would need the bin_meta_app to execute two actions, one to gnerate the BEEP and the other to recrod. How can I change the dialplan to do that? Thanks in advance for all your help. Woody

It would be interesting to be able to support CAPI but there has been no effort as of yet. That doesn't mean it's not a good idea, it just takes time and people and resources. Network Configuration Advice
by Gonzalo Servat 25 Oct '08

25 Oct '08

Hi All, I'm running FS on a dual-nic box on a simple home network with a twist ;) (see attached network diagram). I drew up the network diagram as I thought it'll help explain what I'm trying to achieve. A note on the diagram: the reason why the uplink exists between the switch and the router is simply because the ISP on the FS box (eth1) is quite unstable, so I've got a backup link to another connection which I manually bring up & down when needed (basically involves changing the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 on the FS box) I have a dynamic DNS host (which is the value of my FS "domain") which is tied to whatever IP the FS box is assigned on eth1. When the connection is up and running normally on eth1, everything is fine. PC1 or PC2 can run a SIP client and connect to the FS box using the dynamic DNS host as the server/domain. The problem comes in when eth1 is down and PC1/PC2 start using 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. The dynamic host would resolve to some external address (the last addressed assigned by the ISP before it went down), which means the connection would go out to the internet and attempt to come in via the FS box, which fails as the connection is down. Since I'm fairly new to FS and given that it's a fairly abnormal setup, I'd appreciate what you guys think would be the way to configure my domain and SIP profiles so that I can register locally to FS as well as when I'm on the road (ie. from the Internet, without using a VPN) Thanks in advance and I hope the above made sense. I feel I'm complicating things here as it's not a difficult setup, but I guess my lack of FS knowledge doesn't help! - Gonzalo

Have a number of Atlas 800 and 830 boxes here and use them all the time for PRI testing and inteop. No VoIP module for those - just confirmed with Adtran to be certain. So yes, we could use an Atlas to convert BRI to PRI, but then we need a PRI card/gateway and we are again adding a lot of parts and expense to a simple setup. I see there might be some hope for the Eicon (now Dialogic) boards via CAPI <http://www.dialogic.com/support/helpweb/slnxen/asterisk.asp> <http://www.dialogic.com/products/tdm_boards/system_release_software/Diva_fo…> Will FreeSwitch talk to CAPI? --On Friday, October 24, 2008 12:53 PM -0500 Ken Rice <krice(a)suspicious.org> wrote: > Look at Adtran...
