[Freeswitch-dev] Freeswitch on Debian repository
Hi, I'm the current owner of the Freeswitch package on Debian Testing (Lenny). I'm just beginning to package it, if there's something that I should know before I package it, just say it. I'm here to do my best on this that I consider a great step. Thanks in advance, Nicholas Amorim. PS: By the way, what a great piece of software! :)
We already have debian files in tree that should work, if they don't, we would appreciate all patches back in to tree. Mike On Jan 31, 2009, at 11:28 AM, Nicholas Santos wrote:

Although those debian files surely do they job, they fail to accomplish all debian rules and standards, so I'm changing a lot of things and surely I'll sent back those patchs into tree. On Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 12:15 PM, Michael Jerris <mike@jerris.com> wrote:

Nicholas, Do you want to have svn commit and control over the debs? Someone to maintain them? I'm also looking for someone to watch over and work the RPM spec file too.... Anyone Anyone? Brian, be careful. The debian standards wants daemons to be installed in fixed places (for example, freeswitch in /usr/sbin fs_cli in /usr/bin, modules in /usr/lib/freeswitch/ and so on) Even if having the official patches in trunk would be a very good option, probabily it will break the freeswitch rules to have a common pattern among all build systems (that is everything in /opt/freeswitch). I know you wanted everything in /opt/freeswitch to handle support requests better. This is just FYI! Max
I do want to get enough into our configure that these changes are just a matter of changing configure options and not having to put patches all over to do it. I think this is doable. Mike On Feb 3, 2009, at 6:29 AM, Massimo Ctrix Cetra wrote:

In a first look, it can be temporarily solved by using symbolic links.
From the Debian Policy:
"If your package creates or uses configuration files outside of /etc, and it is not feasible to modify the package to use /etc directly, put the files in /etc and create symbolic links to those files from the location that the package requires."
I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what we want, people will package it like they want... we might as well be involved in it than turn people away which in the end will increase support time because you have ten people making a package for debian vs one official package. /b On Feb 3, 2009, at 5:29 AM, Massimo Ctrix Cetra wrote:

Deb official package need to be in accordance with debian rules. This apply also for debian files in trunk. As they are, I think, they need second look. On Ubuntu -8.10 you can compile fresswitch with no problem, but problems are during creating packages (version 1.0.2) - I needed them to install in machine with compiler. At least, I got problem with -Werror (needed to modify Makefile) and I find that post install debian file does not create proper ownership for directory freswitch. koliqi On Tue, Feb 3, 2009 at 11:57 AM, Brian West <brian@freeswitch.org> wrote:

If your having issues that require you to remove -Werror we would much rather fix them for real, I have fixed all of those issues I believe in trunk, can you please check out trunk and confirm that they are all fixed. Mike On Feb 3, 2009, at 5:32 PM, Fadil Berisha wrote:
