On-conference distortion for FreeTDM channels, but not SIP channels
Nobody has an idea on this? Here again Bob's Message from 2013-09-20: I've tried everything I can think of on this, so now I'm reaching out to you good people. I have a FreeSWITCH system that has the latest version of FreeTDM, Dahdi, libpri, and a Rhino R4T1 quad T1 board with up-to-date firmware. When I call into one of the PRI channels, a "playback"-played file sounds clean, but when I go into conference, the conference audio is distorted. This does not happen with a SIP channel. I would classify the distortion as a "crackle", but it is very regularly periodic. Repeating ticks at (roughly) 10-20 Hz repeat rate, I would say. I can only hear them when audio is present, i.e. the audio seems to be modulated with the ticks. And that conference audio can be the MOH guitar recording. I've eliminated the following: - T1 clocking - Echo Cancellers (I've turned on and off all combinations of hardware and software EC) - T1 board firmware (it's the latest, and the problem only happens on-conference). - Packet length - it's the same (20 mS) for the conference engine, FreeTDM, and Dahdi - mu-law vs. a-law encoding - behaves identically. - Comfort noise - happens with and without. - conference sampling rate (tried 8000 and 16000, even though I'm using TDM, which is 8000). - FreeSWITCH version - happens on 1.2 stable, the latest master branch, and an older version that we were using. If you haven't heard of anything like this, could you please give me your thoughts on why this could happen only on-conference, not while playing WAV files, and only with FreeTDM channels? Thanks! Bob

Hi Brian, I have attached an a-leg recording of a distorted conference where I play the freeswitch welcome message for testing. The recording is placed in the dialplan before the conference is created: <action application="record_session" data="/path/to/recording/test_distortion_${strftime(%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S)}.wav"/> ... <action application="conference" data="${conference_command}"/> Hardware is a Sangoma ISDN card (as recommended...). For what it's worth, this recording captures exactly what I addressed with my dahdi_timer module. That module won't work for Sangoma, of course. To read a pretty detailed analysis of what the problem is, do a search of messages from me on this list and on the freeswitch dev list around September 2013. I would volunteer to port that timer module to work with Sangoma, but I don't have any Sangoma boards. If Sangoma wants to send me a PCIe board free of charge, and give me some guidance on how to derive the 8 KHz T1 clock via the equivalent of /dev/dahdi/timer (or however else), I'll give it my best shot. Otherwise, look at what I did in dahdi_timer.c. Bob On Thu, Jan 2, 2014 at 8:10 AM, Melanie Treitinger < treitinger@as-infodienste.de> wrote:

That's why my recommendation was to develop a mod_freetdm timer instead of dahdi timer so you could abstract the timer into the freetdm and develop t1 timers for any and all rather than one. A workaround would be to use sangoma cards in dahdi mode then use the proposed dahdi timers. I On Thu, Jan 2, 2014 at 10:27 AM, Bob Hartwig <bobjects@gmail.com> wrote:

I get exactly the same thing on a Sangoma B700 board. I raised ticket [#1310] with Sangoma but never got to the bottom of it. Part of the problem was that it was so intermittent and unreproducible in my case. The sad truth (for a perfectionist engineer) is that the users have learned to live with it and priorities are now elsewhere :(. However, I would still like to crack it, of course, and have the ticket still open... For the history in my case, search this group for 'earthspike'. John On 02/01/14 14:10, Melanie Treitinger wrote:
Hi Brian,
I have attached an a-leg recording of a distorted conference where I play the freeswitch welcome message for testing.
The recording is placed in the dialplan before the conference is created: <action application="record_session" data="/path/to/recording/test_distortion_${strftime(%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S)}.wav"/> ... <action application="conference" data="${conference_command}"/>
Hardware is a Sangoma ISDN card (as recommended...).

Hi Bob,
thank you very much for your answer and the Dahdi patch (http://jira.freeswitch.org/browse/FS-5898). However we are using Sangoma and don't know yet how to adapt this patch for our cards. Does anyone know how to do this?
Melanie

Hello Anthony and Bob, are you already working on the mod_freetdm timer development (see earlier discussion http://lists.freeswitch.org/pipermail/freeswitch-users/2014-January/102182.h... I didn't hear from Moises Silva from Sangoma either - did you contact him and get a Sangoma card for testing? I really need this timer module or I won't be able to use our recommended (and quite expensive) Sangoma cards with FreeSWITCH :-(( If you need any more information, please tell me. Best Regards Melanie
Hello Melanie, sorry for my delay in answering your message; I haven't been reading this list regularly lately. Because my client has standardized on Rhino boards and Dahdi, I don't have any real need to port my dahdi_timer to work with Sangoma, or any way to test it. My code is out there on Jira if anyone else wants to take a stab at porting it; it's actually pretty simple.
