Can someone help point me toward proper configuration of G.729 pass through. I have a system with Dual Quad Core Xeons. It will hold up 1000 G.711u calls no problem with cpus 80% idle, however if I switch to G.729 I spike the cpu's at around 400 calls.
Tim, I dont think there is any proper G729 pass-through configuration. If a call is G729-passthrough, it should have (AFAIK) the same CPU- footstep than G711. Do you have G729 licenses on the host ? If yes, are you sure they are not used ? Have your checked your logs for any transcoding issues ? Transcoding will only happen if it has to, if the codecs are the same on both channels (same type, ptime and sample rate), FreeSWITCH will just pass the audio frame without touching it. What command can I use to see if trans coding is happening? I am generating the calls from winsip and passing them to free switch which is sending them to a SIPp instance that is just echoing back the rtp stream. On Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 11:08 AM, Mathieu Rene <mrene_lists@avgs.ca> wrote:

Tim, you can transcode only if you have G729 licenses and you use mod_com_g729. As math said, show channels will show you any issues, and also, as I told you earlier: grep ERR freeswitch.log | grep mod_g729 would show if you attempted to transcode with mod_g729. The cdrs will tell you which codecs are used inbound and outbound. If they're the same transcoding won't happen (probably*). If you're using mod_g729 transcoding can't happen. If you're using mod_com_g729 it can. * unless you're doing more than bridging eg eavesdropping, recording, playback etc Steve on iPhone On 14 Sep 2010, at 16:34, Tim King <tim@compnetwork.net> wrote:

Should just be a case of loading mod_g729. There's no configuration for that module. - Steve On 14 September 2010 15:07, Tim King <tim@compnetwork.net> wrote:
