mod_conference / OPUS / 100 participants -> Bad Quality

With 100 participants the audio quality decreases significantly. CPU is almost 100%. 95 participants are muted but I think their audio stream also gets encoded and mixed. We could serve those 95 participants the same mixed stream? That would save lots of cpu?

Why not? Once the stream in encoded we can reattach it to the 95 muted participants? So currently mod_conderence encodes every muted participant seperate?

To elaborate on what Brian means by a stateful codec, it means that the codec can always be changing the parameters it uses to perform the compression with at any point in time even on a single call. You cannot just inject an opus bitstream into an existing call as it may have been compressed with totally different parameters, and all you would hear is garbled static.
