FS module development -- ramp-up help sought
Need some guidance on how to ramp-up quickly on FS module development -- rather understanding the source-code. I have to admit that I am not the smartest coder or the quickest learner. What might be the right place to start, without getting bogged down with details. Jay PS> There are no shortcuts, and one must learn it the long-hard-painful way, is a valid answer -- but I am hopeful of something better than that.
You might want to outsource some of your development to the freeswitch dev team. You need to understand how FS works in the user space first. Then, depending what type of modules you want to write, consider finding a template, mod_example and mod_schel is probably what you first should look. I'm writing some chapters about this on my book, though the book will be in Chinese. -- Seven Du http://www.freeswitch.org.cn http://about.me/dujinfang http://www.dujinfang.com Sent with Sparrow (http://www.sparrowmailapp.com/?sig) On Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 3:44 AM, Moishe Grunstein wrote:

Well... not far from what I was expecting to hear. Good luck with your book. Once you are done with Chinese, perhaps, you could think of doing few chapters -- like developer oriented ones, in English, and make them available for sale, chapter wise. Moishe, My interest in FS is mostly personal, and at a exploratory/experimental stage. So hiring professional FS-devs at this stage would be more than premature. Thanks for the idea though. On Tue, Sep 3, 2013 at 1:14 AM, Moishe Grunstein <max@nysolutions.com>wrote:

I would start with understanding how to use FreeSWITCH, and beyond that, it depends totally on what you are trying to actually write. Can you tell us a bit about your goals? On Sep 2, 2013, at 10:49 PM, Jayanth Acharya <jayachar88@gmail.com> wrote:

To begin with, I just want to debug the mod_gsmopen. Or let's say -- understand how it works, with FS core. I am making some progress, slowly, reading the logs/traces and mapping it to the source-code, but there are many things I am having to imagine, guess or accept unexplained to move further.

Thanks Giovanni. I'm reading the FS book carefully. Had not done so earlier assuming it to be 100% administration oriented text. However there is lots of fundamental knowledge on FS that I find to be very useful. Shall go through the said Wiki's as well.
