Hi All, I am putting together some thoughts for a GUI app to configure FreeSWITCH and am wondering what the most popular carriers are to include them into my app. Any thoughts? Richard

When designing this system can you try to make the individual provider definitions in some sort of data file format that other system can read. We have quite a bit of provider interop configs and it would be really nice to work off of a community dataset for these. Will do, I think I'll need help with plenty of beta testing. Richard

I was planning on reading and writing to them in their own ".xml" files within the directory\default\ Richard
It will be great if you don't lock up on US carriers and US numbering plan :) Also there should be a way to switch off this list of popular carriers, because they may be inapplicable for a particular area in the world. Also what would be great, is to have a self-service tool for the end-user, so that they can manipulate call forwarding rules by themselves. At best, there would be several profiles, like Available/Unavailable/Vacations, and the user would be able to switch between them quickly with minimal effort. just my 2 cents :)

Yes, you'll be able to choose "other..."

Good idea. I'll see what I can do

Very much appreciated :) Richard
I'm looking for my first DID carrier - found lots of them, but no wiki page on what to look for. One of the details I've realized that not every provider can let me transfer a local number. An other details may have to do with what information is provided when a call comes in and in what format? As I'm just getting started I figure there are other details I should be looking for, but don't know about. Instead of recommending particular providers ( likely to cause political problems - but I'm glad for the information from Avi above --but I don't know what he means by "they require manual setup"). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Schmidt EMail Karl@xtronics.com Transtronics, Inc. Hi. I doubt you really have to worry about the format, especially in USA. It's generally standard SIP. By manual setup I meant that it requires a phone call, perhaps paperwork, and account approval (e.g. That you have enough traffic.) I think all USA carriers support porting your number. If they charge over 10 that's probably not wholesale pricing ... I don't really have the time or inclination to write a full guide on origination companies, sorry... What country and channel usage do you need? Supplies of 2 channel numbers is different than more/unlimited channels. Also, I can provide DIDs... Want to be in touch with me off-list and explain what you're looking for? -Avi On Wed, Jun 26, 2013 at 2:10 AM, Karl Schmidt <karl@xtronics.com> wrote:

Your email inspired these notes: http://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Freeswitch I will want 2 to 4 DIDs that I can port local (785) and cell numbers to. - not much call volume - also outbound service. I'm learning - I've used asterisk as a glorified answering-machine-to-email bridge and hylafax-2-email for many years. I have a ktx PBX that I want to replace with freeswitch. no, I mean removing the whole list completely. If your software is installed in Europe, and the list of carriers contains only US carriers, it will simply be annoying to choose "other" every time. Even in small Switzerland, there are a dozen of popular SIP providers, and few dozens of less popular ones :) so, any ready-made list would be useless.

Ah, that's a good idea. So, we could have a location setting, that created a default carrier list based on what location you selected? Richard
then it would be a full-time job to enter the carriers for every location :) also most of carriers are quite standard and require only a username, domain and password, so there's not much to list in such a catalog. I would suggest to keep it in a documented format and let the local administrator decide what to do with it. From: Richard Mace <richard.mace@gmail.com>

*Carriers:* People speak very highly of flowroute <http://www.flowroute.com/>, who are focused on USA. Their T38 for fax sounds like it works great. For higher-scale origination, AnveoDirect <http://www.anveodirect.com/> has an API to buy voxbone DIDs anywhere in the world. (Voxbone has a stellar reputation.) If you just need a few 2-channels DIDs you can use localphone<http://localphone.com> (this is my link<http://www.localphone.com/?rb=JPolW-_w1_JdRLa7iLscabG5_e5dCBsI5iX-zvR7lhU>), they resell voxbone for most routes. For competitive international termination, I usually use voxbeam<http://www.voxbeam.com/>'s premium route and net2phone's <http://net2phonewholesale.com> as a backup. Anveo, voxbeam, net2phone have a pre-payment of $50-$100. Other carriers include siproutes, alcazar, and xconnect but they require manual setup and/or possible large minimums. -Avi Marcus BestFone On Mon, Jun 24, 2013 at 9:16 PM, Richard Mace <richard.mace@gmail.com>wrote:
