I had made the required configuration in system.conf and we do not have the option to specify that the line is E1 or T1 in there. But yes in the freetdm.conf I had specified the line as E1. In linux we have a command to set the line mode for the Dahdi but in FreeBSD we don't have that, this is why I had to manually change the mode in the source. The problem got solved, it was related to FreeBSD platform. I am running the FS on FreeBSD and there is a parameter "default_linemode" which is needed to be passed to the wct4xxp module of dahdi (wct4xxp is the driver module in case of Digium 8 Span card).
I made a little change in the base.c file in the source of the wct4xxp module as follows:
on line 196 which says : static char default_linemode[] = "auto";
I changed "auto" to"e1" (in my case I have an e1 line) and it worked!!!
