Trunking doesn¹t save that much bandwidth when it comes down to it... You can achieve the same effects on freeswitch by adjusting the ptimes... Example: G.711u at 20ms packetization uses 80k/sec... G.711u at 40ms only uses 72K/sec a 10% bandwidth savings... Not to mention trunking on scales so far before you start seeing delays added by trying to trunk too many calls From: Vijay Ramnarine <vjfromgt@gmail.com> Reply-To: <freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org> Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 23:36:58 -0400 To: <freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org> Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] IAX and CDR Trunking saves bandwidth how much funding are we looking at? You could fund development of a new IAX stack. I know someone that is willing to write such a thing. Can you clarify WHY you use IAX? I see no reason to use it in an ITSP/Carrier arena. Maybe you can fill me in because I haven't seen it fair well under high load/high usage scenarios. For example if you have 100's of users registering you'll start to hear audio quality issues.

The IAX protocol is one of the bigger reason for me to use Asterisk as a switch Please tell me what I can do to help push the development
