As a developer I can tell you we often break the rules to get ${device} to work because there is a big need to make it work even tho ${device} is clearly broken and doesn't function the way it should... Sonus is a great example of this (just google around and you'll find all sorts of issues related to this)

I have had firmware problems with Planet products in the past. I am not a SIP expert, but I don't think that the branch is supposed to be incremented like that and therefore, it is not recognized by the dialog.
