I've shifted the <action application="set" data="*media_bug_answer_req*=true"/> to be the first action in the dialplan, and it's still not working. Before, the aleg was answered, then the variable set and record_session set, then the bridge was performed. did you check your logs and make sure your channel is not actually already answered before you called bridge?
