Happy Monday to you all! Last Wednesday we had a nice discussion on the weekly conference call<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Weekly_Conference_Call#Past_Calls?cc12-0611>about mod_httapi <http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Mod_httapi?cc12-0611>. It turns out that there is a fair amount of interest in the great module but that there are some questions about how to handle certain scenarios, such as "session tracking." Thanks to Raymond Chandler for being available to answer a lot of those questions. We will be doing a followup discussion that focuses on Raymond's PHP examples for using mod_httapi. These examples do a good job of demonstrating the power and ease of HTTAPI. ClueCon <http://www.cluecon.com?cc12-0611> season is upon us and our list of speakers and sponsors continues to grow. Packt Publishing<http://packtpub.com?cc12-0611>is now on board as a media sponsor and we hope to have some nice items from them to give away at the conference. Keep checking the schedule<http://www.cluecon.com/schedule?cc12-0611>for updates as we are confirming new speakers each week. We are also happy to report that the Wyndham has completed its changeover and is officially known as the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile<http://www.chicagomagnificentmile.hyatt.com?cc12-0611>. (As of this writing their web site is undergoing maintenance, so be patient.) We are excited to see what's in store at this revamped hotel and can't wait to see everyone there this August! -- Michael S Collins ClueCon Team http://www.cluecon.com?cc12-0611 877-7-4ACLUE

Happy June to all! We had a busy month of May but last Wednesday (May 30) we took a break from the formal presentations on the FreeSWITCH conference call and instead focused some time and energy on topics of general interest to our community. Feel free to download<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Weekly_Conference_Call#Past_Calls?cc12-0604>last week's conference call recording and listen to Travis Cross and myself discuss the pros and cons of licensing for content other than source code, such as the wiki documentation and the sounds we've recorded over the years. Another topic of interest is the original FreeSWITCH book<http://www.packtpub.com/freeswitch-1-0-6-build-robust-high-performance-tele…>, a.k.a. the "bridge book" because of the cover photograph. Can you believe that this summer it will be two years since the book was released? The FreeSWITCH team and a number of interested community members have been discussing what a second edition would look like - what changes would be made, what new content could be added, etc. We have no definitive plans at the moment, so now is the time to talk about what you would like to see. Do you have an idea on how to make the second edition of the FreeSWITCH book even better? If so, please let us know. Perhaps by ClueCon 2013 we'll have a brand new book on the shelves! Speaking of ClueCon <http://www.cluecon.com?cc12-0604>, we would like to let everyone know that the plans for this year's event are coming along nicely. Our speaker <http://www.cluecon.com/speakers?cc12-0604> list is growing and the schedule is filling out. We still have a few openings, so please get your speaking proposals in to us right away. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this August, so please register<http://www.cluecon.com/register?cc12-0604>now, that way we can make plans for ancillary events like the welcome reception. Thanks for being such a great community! Talk to you next week. -- Michael S Collins ClueCon Team http://www.cluecon.com 877-7-4ACLUE cc12-0604

Happy Tuesday to all. We hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend. We've had a steady stream of presentations on the FreeSWITCH conference call over the past month. Ken Rice has graciously done two presentations on how to create a dialplan module in C, including a fully functional example module. This code is extremely helpful not just in understanding how to write a dialplan module but in writing any module that exposes new dialplan applications or command line APIs. This week we will take a break from the formal presentations and have an open discussion on any topics of interest to the community. Our ClueCon plans are gearing up as well. We are pleased to announce that Plivo, Inc. is a brand new silver sponsor for this year's event. Plivo<http://www.plivo.org?cc12-0529>is an open-source framework for developing Web-based solutions with FreeSWITCH. We are also happy to report that the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is again with us a media sponsor. IIT holds the annual Real-Time Communications conference and expo <http://www.rtc-conference.com?cc12-0529>where academia and industry meet to discuss various aspects of global telecommunications. We invite you to visit our sponsors' Web sites to learn more about what they have to offer. As a reminder, ClueCon still has openings for sponsors and speakers. Please contact us via email or at the phone number below if you have any questions. Visit the registration<http://www.cluecon.com/register?cc12-0529>page to get signed up and be sure to book your room at the Wyndham <http://www.cluecon.com/hotels?cc12-0529>. (And don't forget that the Wyndham will shortly be renamed to the Hyatt Chicago Miracle Mile.) We look forward to meeting everyone in person this August! -- Michael S Collins ClueCon Team http://www.cluecon.com 877-7-4ACLUE cc12-0529

Monday, May 21, 2012 We're looking forward this week to a followup on a conversation that we began last Wednesday. After Fred Dixon gave a great demonstration of Big Blue Box <http://www.bigbluebutton.org?cc12-0521> we had our very own Ken Rice give an introduction to writing a simple dialplan module in C. This week Ken Rice will follow up on the discussion and answer any questions you may have. If you missed last week's discussion you can download the audio by clicking the "torrent" link on the past calls<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Weekly_Conference_Call#Past_Calls?cc12-0521>page. In ClueCon news we are happy to report that Norm Tomlins and Voice Network<http://www.voicenetwork.ca?cc12-0521>are back to sponsor us again in 2012. We look forward to seeing Norm again this August. We have also posted a number of presentations on this year's schedule <http://www.cluecon.com/schedule?cc12-0521>. More presentations are in the works, so stay tuned for further announcements. Visit the ClueCon site to register, or call us at 877.742.CLUE if you have any questions about speakers, sponsoring, or anything else related to the event. Greetings from the FreeSWITCH team. We hope your Monday is going well! This week we have an interesting topic in our community conference call<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/FS_weekly_2012_05_16?cc12-0514>. We will be joined by Fred Dixon, lead developer of the Big Blue Button<http://www.bigbluebutton.org/>project. Big Blue Button is open software that enables distance learning and remote education. Fred will do a live demonstration of how it works as well as discussing how FreeSWITCH fits into the picture. We invite everyone to join us Wednesday to see this cool project in action. In ClueCon news, we are pleased to announce that we have two more sponsors: NACT <http://www.nact.com?cc12-0514>and HarQen <http://www.harqen.com?cc12-0514>. NACT uses FreeSWITCH in carrier class solutions, such as pre-paid and their commercial Vinci Class 4/5 softswitch. [FreeSWITCH Community] News and Notes: ClueCon Hotel Gets a New Name, FreeSWITCH Gets a New Feature
by Michael Collins 07 May '12

07 May '12

Happy new week to all! We have some interesting news items to share. First off, we are happy to report that the Wyndham Hotel, where ClueCon 2012 is being held, has a new owner and will become a Hyatt property. As part of the transition, the Wyndham will be renamed in June. The new name will be Hyatt Chicago Miracle Mile. The ownership transfer and name change will not affect ClueCon attendees, and the ClueCon website <http://www.cluecon.com/hotels?cc12-0507>will continue to have the latest hotel information. Please feel free to call the Wyndham and make your ClueCon hotel reservations at your earliest convenience. Also in ClueCon news we'd like to let everyone know that we have two new sponsors: Vitelity and OpenVox. We are pleased to welcome them both to this year's event. Each will be giving a technical presentation this year and we look forward to seeing them in person. Please visit our site<http://www.cluecon.com?cc12-0507>for registration information. FreeSWITCH received a new feature last week: a much-improved group pickup implementation. The new pickup dialplan<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Misc._Dialplan_Tools_pickup?cc12-0507>application works in conjunction with the new "pickup" pseudo-channel. Together these allow for simple yet elegant call pickup features to be added to the dialplan. A number of FreeSWITCH community members are testing this new feature, and soon there will be an example added to the "Vanilla" dialplan. This Wednesday, May 9, we will be welcoming FreeSWITCH Community member Giovanni Maruzzelli to the community conference call<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/FS_weekly_2012_05_09?cc12-0507>. He will be discussing how to implement a GSM channel in FreeSWITCH using mod_gsmopen and a GSM dongle. We invite everyone to join us this Wednesday at 1PM Eastern, 10AM Pacific (UTC 1700) for a very interesting discussion. Have a great week and we'll be in touch next Monday. -- Michael S Collins ClueCon Team www.ClueCon.com <http://www.ClueCon.com?cc12-0507> 877-7-4ACLUE

Greetings everyone. We have several items for your consideration this week: - The FreeSWITCH Community Conference Call<http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/FS_weekly_2012_04_25>will take place at 1PM Eastern, 10AM Pacific this coming Wednesday April 25. We will be having an informal discussion about executing dialplan applications or APIs using the "execute_on" and "api_on" family of channel variables. We look forward to having you there with us. - The authors of the FreeSWITCH Cookbook will be taking part in an interview on the weekly VUC call <http://www.voipusersconference.org/>this Friday April 27. - Vestec still has some ASR starter kits to give away to FreeSWITCH users around the world. If you have need of speech recognition in your telephony application then contact marketing(a)cluecon.com and ask for more information. Vestec already supports languages in 10 of the largest economies of the world and more languages are in development. Please make plans to support both conference calls this week. If you've never been to either one I highly recommend checking them out. They are very interesting. In fact, they are a small taste of what ClueCon is like: hanging out with fellow telecom enthusiasts and having technical discussions. It really is a lot of fun. Speaking of ClueCon, be sure to register <http://www.cluecon.com/register/> today. Don't forget that if you register in April you get extra entries in the giveaway drawings we have throughout the conference.
