Have a look at /etc/udev/rules.d
You can write a rule there and set the ownership permanently that way.
Sorry about the delay on this John. I'd sent it earlier but managed to use
the wrong identity and the list didn't bounce my reply (or I didn't notice).
You've probably figured this out on your own by now...
