You did not clarify any of the details of your machine HW, OS etc.
The issue you reported with snoms are not reproducible based on your
description so you should
try harded to pinpoint it.  Telling us you have a problem but you are not
sure why etc is not helpful because now I have to stop and wait for you to
reply if I want to help you further.
Portaudio seems to not work very well under linux and we don't have any
linux machines with sound to test it with.

Can you please provide all the details including possibly access to your
machine so we can
reproduce your issue with your machine if we can't with our own.
