I'm trying to figure out how phrases works in freeswitch, and I have a set of my own voices to use instead of the default ones. I've read http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Speech_Phrase_Management but I guess I'm not understanding correctly. Situation (might be easier to understand this way): Basically I have a set of prompts (they are actually in my voice) that I plan on using to read off addresses and such from a SIP message. Think "automated dispatching" for fire departments. A script might be: (fire tones) "Indianapolis Engine 123, Indianapolis Medic 123, 928 West Banta Road, Vehicle Fire" x2 "Coordinates 3700 North, 1200 East, Assigned to Marion Ops 1" ...so that information would be set in some variables, like responding_units, address, incident_type, coordinates_1, coordinates_1_direction, coordinates_2, coordinates_2_direction, etc... So the million dollar question is, how do I (temporarily) get freeswitch to use my voice prompts instead of the default prompts when using the say command in the dialplan? Also, how should I organize those prompts so that freeswitch can find them? -- Brian D. Brian, Are you sure you want the "say" application? The reason I ask is that the say app does the stitching together of the digits, time, money, etc. Unless you've re-recorded all the digits, etc. then I wouldn't even mess with the say app. You probably want the playback app and the phrase files. First thing: do you have the FreeSWITCH book? (The first one, that is.) I wrote up a really nice tutorial on using phrase macros near the end of chapter six. If you don't have the book then SHAME ON YOU! ;) Seriously, snag it, because it will make us feel like we didn't waste 8 months of our lives writing it. :P Now, if you did indeed use your own voice and you created digit prompts, letters, etc. and you do want the say app then you have two choices: replace the default sounds with your voice, or create an alternate say language and conf/lang config files. You could literally copy src/mod/say/en/* and make src/mod/say/en_bdf/* and then copy conf/lang/en/* and make conf/lang/en_bdf/*. Of course you'll need to edit some files: mod_say_en.c (near the end, change the only occurrence of "en" to "en_bdf") and conf/lang/en_bdf/en.xml you'll need to modify the line with sound-prefix= to point to your sound set.) MC, Thanks for the info. I do indeed want to use the say app because all the speech needs to sound extremely clear. TTS is out of the question. I've been meaning to pick up the freeswitch book (and now the cookbook) so I will be doing that soon. I'm using my own voice now but I will end up trying to hire Callie from GM voices to complete the set if this becomes more than just a hypothetical situation. I'm envisioning something extremely cool and sort of out of the normal use of FreeSWITCH. Stay tuned, this could be a really cool project. Thanks Avi, that's what I was getting at. You use the "say" app to let FS do the work of how to pronounce something, e.g.: <action application="say" data="en number pronounced 1234"/> Caller hears "one thousand, two hundred, thirty-four" <action application="say" data="en number iterated 1234"/> Caller hears "one two three four" You don't need the say app to do what you are trying to do. You can use just the playback app, with or without phrase macros: <action application="playback" data="/path/to/cool_bdf_sound.wav"/> or <action application="playback" data="phrase:my_cool_phrase:arg1:arg2"/> Then you need a phrase defined. I use conf/lang/en/ivr/custom.xml for my own phrases. E.g.: <include> <macro name="my_cool_phrase"> <input pattern="(.*?):(.*?)"> <match> <action function="play-file" data="$1.wav"/> <action function="sleep" data="500"/> <action function="play-file" data="$1.wav"/> </match> <nomatch> <action function="play-file" data="/some/other/file.wav"/> </nomatch> </input> </macro> </include> I hope that makes sense. See pages 115-120 in the bridge book for info on phrase macros and see pages 98,99 for info on the say application. -MC
Hmm... that might get messy with a bunch of street names. But, everything else would work for that minus numbers. Is there a say command that will do something like if the address is 938 West Bantam Road they would hear "nine thirty eight" instead of "nine three eight"? That might be a cool way of doing the addresses. Easier to remember maybe. Thanks! -BDF On Feb 23, 2012 5:51 PM, "Michael Collins" <msc@freeswitch.org> wrote:

Yes, this would require a mod to say_en kinda like what Tony did for saying dates. If you look at his recent commits to mod_say you'll see that he added a new type of pronunciation for dates so that "1999" comes out as "nineteen ninety-nine". You might be able to use that as the basis of doing "nine thirty-eight". How many different words and phrases are you thinking that you'll need for this project? -MC On Fri, Feb 24, 2012 at 7:13 AM, Avi Marcus <avi@avimarcus.net> wrote:
