After a problem reported by a customer, I've been experimenting with uuid_record from fs_cli to find out where leading silences might be coming from. A couple of files I just recorded had >30s of silence at the start of the wav file that I wasn't expecting. The experiment goes like this: 1. I say "one" on the call 2. uuid_record <uuid> start xx.wav 3. I say "two" on the call 4. short pause 5. I say "three" on the call 6. uuid_record <uuid> stop xx.wav 7. I say "four" on the call The resulting xx.wav file contains 33s of silence, "two", pause, "three" end of file. It is silence at the start rather than ambient noise. The call itself has been up for several minutes now, so I'm not sure where the 30 sec comes from? The FreeSWITCH version is 1.4.12-1 Regards, Martyn
You make no mention of what platform you're running on, I would highly recommend you try 1.4.19, I recall a similar bug already being reported resolved. On Tue, Jun 9, 2015 at 10:38 AM, Martyn Davies <martyn@magiccow.co.uk> wrote:

the one I reported was for raw recording, and there I had some fallouts of 20ms frames because of wrong timer reference. @Martyn, what do you get if you do raw recording? (latest release makes only sense). Also, how busy is the server, and is it a physical or virtual machine? On Tue, Jun 9, 2015 at 5:43 PM, Brian West <brian@freeswitch.org> wrote:

Thanks, yes it's running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, on a real machine. Load is light (there were on average 5 calls at the time I was working on it). With raw record, the recording looks as expected, i.e. no silent prefix. I've noticed that when recording WAV, the recording on the call is ok, then subsequent recording (i.e on the same call uuid) have the silent prefix. Thanks for the recommendations, I will try a later FS version as soon as I can do so without disrupting the trial. It does look like it could be connected with the reported windows problem (although here it isn't windows). Regards, Martyn On 9 June 2015 at 16:43, Brian West <brian@freeswitch.org> wrote:

We have a long history of known issues with Ubuntu 12.04 including known kernel timing issues. I strongly recommend switching.
