Core dump: Seg 11 if phones get powered off
This seems to happen nightly. Let me explain the scenario, this is a third world country and power outages happen regularly. The UPS on which the phones are may die (and i'm sure it does). Seems like freeswitch segfaults when it cannot find these phones! (This is just my analysis- as freeswitch runs perfectly otherwise) I have a core file and have generated a backtrace from gdb. I have uploaded to JIRA as FSCORE-155. I am unclear as to whether this is a core issue or a sofia_sip issue. Please let me know if there is a workaround to this problem, as right now i have to restart freeswitch in the morning :) -- Faraz R Khan Chief Architect Emergen Consulting Pvt Ltd +92.21.529.0381 x200 www.emergen.biz

Salaam Faraz, Can you replicate the issue by manually pulling the power plug on the phone (or killing their UPS) and then see what happens to fs? -- wasim h. baig | principal consultant | convergence pk | +92 300 8508070
Wasim! nice to see you here! I can- I tried once and it did work. I'll try multiple times and see if it crashes FS every single time. Wasim Baig wrote:

Hmm. I dont think it has anything to do with my phone powered off theory- happened again this morning. I have turned debug logging on and will report back next time it happens Faraz R. Khan wrote:

If you read the earlier posts - I initially thought that phones losing power all of a sudden was causing FS to crash. However that is not the case as it also crashed randomly this morning with all phones working. I have also enabled 'crash protection' in switch.xml - dont know what it does but sounds nice! :) Will do a sip trace. Ive noticed it has never crashed during a call. The last log entry is always that of a normal hangup. Brian West wrote:

will do. My point was that I doubt freeswitch is SO broken :) I have a pretty small lightweight network. I think there is something in my configuration thats probably causing it as Im sure it hasnt happened to anybody else over here. Im guessing its either the Xen DomU part or the Ubuntu Hardy Xen domU part :) Any body else running Freeswitch in a ubuntu hardy Xen DomU successfully? I will keep observing it closely. You're using curl to post cdr it looks like. I am doing a decent amount of processing in my PHP app on the other side of the CURL post- can that possibly cause problems? Any pointers on how to debug this would be great. I would also try with the SVN code to see if this error persists.

Interesting. Just tested my Freeswitch SVN with system libcurl using sipp uac. 1000 calls created, 10ms call duration, 5 calls per second. at 30 concurrent channels. No crash, no voice distortion (I also created simultaenous conferences to check call quality). I am not too worried about the CPS as I'm sure my php script on the far end of the curl post has EVERYTHING to do with it :) If it crashes now I'll be really confused :) 2500 mysql DB entries were inserted (1000 curl posts! without problems!) Maybe the trick is using the system libraries. Faraz R. Khan wrote:

Right, i saw that one already but that is just 1 and it's from old code. I need the bt from the latest trunk or it's more or less useless as a debugging tool.
Let me know when you get some more bt I will get auto-notified if you attach them to the jira.

It includes all the backtraces you asked for below (followed guidelines on the wiki).
I will update to the latest SVN and provide another core dump shortly (gimme 12 hours max)

You need to post a bt every time you get a core. They are not always the same. Please post any and all back traces you have encountered since the last time you updated. Once you update the core files become unusable so be careful to capture them.
When doing a capture, do the following commands in order.
bt bt full info threads thread apply all bt full

are you supplying a password? you need to say "auth <password>" it may be saying command not found because the auth command is only valid when followed by a password. On Wed, Jul 16, 2008 at 7:34 AM, Ivan C Myrvold <ivan@myrvold.org> wrote:

It’s working now after I’ve updated to latest build. We have a call control application that’s been working for ages and when we updated to 9009M it simply didn’t. Telnet didn’t work as well (as explained). Don’t know what happened. Anyway, it’s fine now. Thanks. _____ From: freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org [mailto:freeswitch-users-bounces@lists.freeswitch.org] On Behalf Of Anthony Minessale Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2008 11:14 PM To: freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] Event_Socket won't authenticate are you supplying a password? you need to say "auth <password>" it may be saying command not found because the auth command is only valid when followed by a password.
