HI, on Windows I'm trying to use Limit with Microsoft SQL DB but it's still using the sqlight database. I have mod_Db and Mod_Hash loaded and under db.config.xml I have my odbc setup like this <param name="odbc-dsn" value="sqldb64::" /> I know the odbc works because I have the core database setup the same <param name="odbc-dsn" value="sqldb64::" /> <param name="core-dbtype" value="MSSQL"/> Is there a step that I'm missing? Thanks
Have you tried the odbd://DSN:: syntax? On 8/2/13 12:20 PM, "Andre" <andretodd@verizon.net> wrote:

Back in 1990's I started using a fax receiving programs (originally I found several solutions on Windoze that were terrible). When I moved our server to Linux (2000) I discovered hylafax. With hylasfax and a particular modem all has worked flawlessly for years. In the process I learned way more about fax than I ever wanted to. Now as I set up this freeswitch system, I see I can use t38modem as an end point. So my question is has anyone been down this road with t38modem and hylafax? Or should I just use a FAX service? Do these services work reliably with ALL the machines out there? (I'm doubtful) FAX should soon disappear - but we still have customers in other countries that send in the occasional fax. The issue is that different fax machines from different times have buggy software that makes receiving faxes reliably a can of worms. What I have works, but I would like to get rid of the POTS phone-line. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Schmidt EMail Karl@xtronics.com Transtronics, Inc. I've personally had issues with hylafax. I dont know what it is or how to fix it, but what I ended up doing is using mod_spandsp and dumping the received faxes into a couchdb database. Thanks - I had to go through 6 modems before I found one that did fax reliably - it is the firmware code in the modem that matters - and all of the big names failed. You seem to be making a mountain out of a mole hill. Unless you have some very specific need for HylaFAX, just install FreeSwitch and let it FAX for you. If you do need HylaFAX, then install HylaFAX and FreeSwitch and let the T.31 FAX modem facility in FreeSwitch be your modem. If you need to send more than 100k FAXes a day you might need to consider performance issues. Regards, Steve On 08/03/2013 04:58 AM, Karl Schmidt wrote:

After running FreeSWITCH for a couple of years for our office voice phone system, I trying to get incoming FAX to work. I followed the recommendation in the wiki, and set up a DID number this way: <extension name="inbound_fax"> <condition field="destination_number" expression="^(my_fax)$" require-nested="false"> <condition field="${cond(${caller_id_name} == ${caller_id_number} ?true:false)" expression="^true$"> <action application="set" data="effective_caller_id_name=${cidlookup(${caller_id_number})}"/> <anti-action application="playback" data="silence_stream://2000"/> </condition> <action application="set" data="fax_enable_t38_request=true"/> <action application="set" data="fax_enable_t38=true"/> <action application="rxfax" data="/tmp/FAX-${uuid}.tif"/> <action application="hangup"/> </condition> </extension> I attempted to send a fax from an ordinary fax machine connected to a POTS AT&T line. The freeswitch.log file is not very helpful, it just says the fax was not successful. But I think I may have a clue from the behavior. When rxfax starts, I hear what sounds like the normal FAX answer tone, and my FAX stops sending the CNG tone. But the answer tone (is it the CED?) just keeps going. After a long time, I hear a brief lower pitched tone, then it goes back to the answer tone, until my fax machine gives up and hangs up. There doesn't seem to be a description for this symptom in the wiki documentation. My provider is Flowroute. I'm using FreeSWITCH Version 1.2.7. -- Steve On Fri, Aug 2, 2013 at 9:42 PM, Steve Underwood <steveu@coppice.org> wrote:

Our FreeSWITCH box doesn't run a web server, so that's not the best solution. I don't really want to "play" with T.38 faxing, I just want to receive faxes without a POTS line. Doesn't anyone do that? -- Steve

Hi Steven, yes, I'm doing that, a lot. :) Try to disable T.38 first and send a fax that way. If it works, try again with T.38. Have a look at spandsp's output on fs_cli, there's usually something useful if negotiation fails. You can also enable verbose output for mod_spandsp, that'll give very detailed logging output but can be useful as well. Maybe it's some problem with the T.38 re-invite, so maybe try a T.38 fax to/from your provider with siptrace enabled. Best regards, Markus
I receive about 1500 faxes a month with FreeSWITCH/SpanDSP and Flowroute. I send about 100 or so, so not nearly as many in that direction. Sent faxes almost always work fine short of noanswer, voice answer, etc. For received faxes I get a lot more failures then I would like however, close to 15%. Usually by the 3rd try most faxes make it through though. I've been told (here) that this is absolutely horrible and any half-decent system would perform better but I've yet to be told what a half-decent system is or some "best practices". I've fiddled with many settings and I seem to get the best overall success with the below settings (over the defaults). I've gone back and forth with the v17 being disabled and it seems it works better with some fax machines having it one way and with other machines it's better the other way. I'm working on making my lua scripts adjust the settings on-the-fly and remember what works for each CID or DID. fax_disable_v17 = true fax_enable_t38 = true fax_enable_t38_request = true fax_verbose = true ignore_early_media = true I've wrote a couple of small LUA scripts to use with FreeSWITCH to help manage faxing. They allow you to configure DID to Email routes, set default fax settings and fax settings per DID or CID, view some basic stats, and a few other things all from the fs_cli console. It stores everything in a sqlite3 database. It's pretty rough around the edges still, but maybe it could help some. The receive fax script has a bit of code that tries to figure out if a caller is a voice caller but I don't think it's entirely accurate but it does seem to work decently. http://git.bmts.us/gitweb/?p=fsfax.git;a=summary ------ Original Message ------ From: "Markus Lindenberg" <markus.lindenberg@gmail.com> To: "FreeSWITCH Users Help" <freeswitch-users@lists.freeswitch.org> Sent: 7/11/2014 7:29:24 AM Subject: Re: [Freeswitch-users] [OL]Re: best way to receive FAXs

I had some success with disabling T.38 for received calls. If i see that negotiation failed multiple times or the fax aborts with errors during page transmission, I save the callerid and disable T.38 when the caller retries. Most cases that were not successful with T.38 worked fine with soft modem. See https://github.com/gonicus/gofaxip#fallback-from-t38-to-spandsp-softmodem for details.

After extensive testing using decent SIP providers (with or without T38), we have much better success with spandsp than hylafax. We even have a better success rate compared to most combinations of ATA + physical fax machine we tested!! No tweaks needed, and using default values (use-ecm=true, disable-v17=false). Feature-wise it's not really comparable to a Hylafax solution, but with a few scripts to manage queues and such, you can build a very nice solution able to handle a huge fax volume! Thanks for the information. Would you be willing to share more information? Like the SIP providers you're using, type of internet connection, hardware, etc? I would understand if you can't share everything. But seeing that you seem to be having excellent success I would be very interested to know your setup in more detail - might give me some ideas on things to implement or improve. I have used flowroute very successfully for fax sending and receiving. The solution I use includes switching various options on and off for each try to have the most success without a complete failure in years (when sending to a fax machine that is). I have posted some stats that are in the mailing list archives and some details in the wiki. soft faxing seems to work without issue with high reliability. ~Mitch On Fri, Jul 11, 2014 at 9:30 AM, <bruce@sqls.net> wrote:

Also, great looking project :) I'll take a look at it as well. I've been wanting to learn more about golang too. I've used Hylafax in the past but I haven't used it lately - I probably should take another look at that as well.

My providers are mainly based in Spain so probably the names won't tell you anything. I usually have -almost- perfect T38 results against Cisco and Huawei hardware (provider gateway), and avoiding providers with SONUS, NEC and ex-NORTEL products (CS2K). The most important would probably have a quality Internet connection, if using lower speed ADSL you should probably not share the limited bandwidth/upload with other uses unless you know how to properly configure traffic shaping (we use linux routers + HFSC and it works very well!). Some people just use low-cost hosting such as OVH and online.net with very good results as well. Regards, -- François On Fri, 2014-07-11 at 16:30 +0000, bruce@sqls.net wrote:
Thanks for the information. Would you be willing to share more information? Like the SIP providers you're using, type of internet connection, hardware, etc? I would understand if you can't share everything. But seeing that you seem to be having excellent success I would be very interested to know your setup in more detail - might give me some ideas on things to implement or improve.
I do like the combo of FreeSWITCH/SpanDSP + Scripts. I've really liked the lua scripting integration that lets me add console commands and stats info right into the fs_cli tool. So, very encouraging news.

I used to use hylafax for many years - most of the problems had to do with the modem software - not hylafax. Once I had the right FAX modem I had close to 100% successes( It was one of about 25 external faxmodems/firmware combinations that I tried). Using hylafax with VoIP via an audio card did not bring much joy.. so I am now using: <condition field="destination_number" expression="^33$"> <!-- The following sort of works--> <action application="set" data="file=/home/freeswitch/fax/${strftime(%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S)}.tif"/> <action application="playback" data="silence_stream://2000"/> <action application="set" data="fax_enable_t38_request=false"/> <action application="set" data="fax_enable_t38=false"/> <action application="rxfax" data="${file}"/> <action application="system" data='echo "See attached FAX" | mutt -a ${file} -s "FAX" -- fax@example.com' /> <action application="hangup" /> <action application="set_zombie_exec"/> </condition> I too am missing some faxes - some folks have to retry. My testing seems to suggest that it has to do with the sending fax machine more than it being a VoIP connection. I also have <action application="spandsp_start_fax_detect" data="transfer '33 XML features' 6"/> And some fax calls fail to transfer - but not often. @ Bruce - As per: fax_disable_v17 = true fax_enable_t38 = true fax_enable_t38_request = true fax_verbose = true ignore_early_media = true Can you explain what you think each line above might be doing for INBOUND faxes? In the long run, I can't wait till we can say RIP to all FAXes, but it might be good to collect some statistics on which FAX settings have the best success - and your scripts so that spansp faxing can be improved. The problem I've had in debugging this is I only have a few old FAX machines to test with - one really needs a huge volume of FAX calls coming in or a huge collection of machines to test with. Your large volume of incoming FAX calls could produce some useful statistics.. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karl Schmidt EMail Karl@xtronics.com Transtronics, Inc. What I have works, but I would like to get rid of the POTS phone-line.
When we switched to VoIP with FreeSWITCH here, we made a decision to keep one POTS line as a backup. We got the cheapest service we could find (from AT&T). We get value for our money because we use it as: 1. Our incoming FAX line (using HylaFAX with a Best Data Smart One 56SK modem from the late 1990's that has worked perfectly for years); 2. A backup DSL line, plugged into a dual-WAN router. (Our primary Internet is Comcast.) 3. A POTS line for our alarm system, as highly recommended by our security company; and 4. A backup phone line, in case a power failure is longer than the UPS run time. (This happened during the California electricity crisis of 2000 and 2001.) We can keep the cost low because other than the alarm system calling a toll-free number, no outgoing calls are made from this line. -- Steve
