I've been trying to discover a way to use woomera from FreeSWITCH. The information is sketchy at best. Currently we have a setup like the following: sangoma_mgd <-> woomera <-> asterisk <-> sip <-> FreeSWITCH I'd like to remove Asterisk from the equation, since basically all it does is act as a bridge (and consumes additional resources). I've tried mod_woomera that is available from the Project DiaStar, but it only worked partially (it seems to only support connecting to a single woomera server, and we will have many). I have also read in old (circa 2008) emails that mod_opal would one day lead to a new mod_woomera or perhaps support woomera directly, but haven't found much additional information. Is there any existing solution that I can apply to this problem? Regards, Cliff

Hello Cliff, I need to ask. Any reason you're still using sangoma_mgd? It used to be a nice solution when Sangoma stacks were not integrated in FreeSWITCH and Asterisk did not have BRI support. But those days are long gone. Whether you're using SS7, BRI, PRI or Analog you can just plug things directly into FreeSWITCH and the need for woomera will no longer be there. *Moises Silva **Software Manager*** msilva@sangoma.com Sangoma Technologies 100 Renfrew Drive, Suite 100, Markham, ON L3R 9R6 Canada t. +1 800 388 2475 (N. This is documented? And it doesn't require moving onto the Trillium SS7 stack (we're using ss7boxd)? It seems to me that the code to support our stack was ripped out of FreeTDM some time ago. Cliff

It does require using a different stack and there is no charge for it. you just can use FreeTDM by itself and configure it with the new SS7 functionality. If you really want to keep mgd, you can use FreeTDM with the boost protocol (not really supported or current but out there) so FS would take the place of the boost. There really does not seem to be any progress with Woomera these days as the author is busy with other things the one you see in diastar is the only one with active development. I would heavily recommend trying the new FreeTDM stuff if you want to achieve your goal. On Fri, Feb 24, 2012 at 3:02 PM, Cliff Wells <cliff@develix.com> wrote:

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any docs or assurances of functionality when using the new SS7 functionality in FreeTDM with ss7boxd. I'd love to hear otherwise. If they are interoperable, Sangoma has neglected to offer this as a solution to us in many conversations, instead focusing on upselling us to Trillium. This is why I'm not thinking they are compatible (I currently choose to believe that over the alternative).

The last I looked, boost support had been pulled from git. This is what I was referring to in my reply to Moy. Regards, Cliff
I am sorry if this message seems intrusive, but have you tried the Khomp hardware? They have their own SS7 stack that does not require extra licensing and that works with FreeSWITCH. I am not sure up to what extent either but might be worth a shot asking. If you are in the US, that's also a no go since they don't support T1, only E1. btw, I work with Khomp and I can get you this information if it is within your interest. For better or worse, I'm in the US, so we're using T1. Thanks for the info, though. Regards, Cliff
Ss7box and boost and woomera are all depricated now. That was what I was trying to explain. I cannot speak for sangoma but I know that much and no effort will be made to go backwards on that since the new feeetdm is more stable and has less moving parts to go wrong.
