I’m not so worried about PoE, Its wifi and powered over the existing doorbell AC power supply and can still ring your existing doorbell in addition to calling you. If you used the link I gave you’ll get 10 dollars off and I’ll get 10 dollars back! :) I would love to see if they are using SIP on the back side… I’ll be packet tracing it when Its installed… -- Brian West brian@freeswitch.org FreeSWITCH Solutions, LLC PO BOX 2531 Brookfield, WI 53008-2531 Twitter: @FreeSWITCH_Wire , @briankwest http://www.freeswitchbook.com http://www.freeswitchcookbook.com T: +1.918.420.9001 | F: +1.918.420.9002 | M: +1.918.424.WEST iNUM: +883 5100 1420 9001 ISN: 410*543 Skype:briankwest PGP Key: http://www.bkw.org/key.txt (AB93356707C76CED) On 2013-11-19, at 12:01 PM, Blake Priddy <bpriddy@bryantschools.org> wrote:

Few other considerations: When the company doesn't exist anymore, who is gonna program the app? When the company is still there, the app is forcing you to update to some new iOwn or Android device. "Sorry your device isn't supported by the newer software. You need at least iOS X to install this app." Not to mention that I'm really interested in the security design behind it... There is another device out there, which has the same limiting (only) app function: http://www.myskybell.com/ Believe me, I really appreciate new products with good design, but *please*, give me a device which is compatible with good open standards so I own the device myself; now and in the future. ==Suggestion== Button is pressed: - Phone/Computer is connected with VPN to my home. - Doorbell is client to the voip server. - The event also pushes an XMPP message. - Cam is a sip video client or at least, it streams to my internal (web)server. So then I can use any sip client to be future proof. The security is granted with VPN. Maybe the doorbell can also support other home automations standards, so it can be part of a whole system? Camera's running with www.zoneminder.com, fhem or something else for triggering the lights, etc.. I'm afraid those companies mainly care about there shareholders value, not about the interest of the customer. Bringing out a device that is user friendly doesn't need to exclude the open standards for the people who prefer there own methods of getting things done. My 2ct. -- EL

I really like the 2n door phones - it will do all of that, but also speak SIP (and integrate with anything, and can also use proximity cards). Yes, they are more money too. For the same or less money, get a Grandstream IP camera. They can do SIP (including video), and they give you dry contact input and output for the door bell button. They will run off 12v DC, and you can even use a USB WiFi dongle if you don't have Ethernet with PoE handy. I'm not trying to knock it, but why try to re-invent something proprietary, when there are plenty of good open solutions available. -Tim On 13-11-20 02:04 PM, EL wrote:

Have you experience combining it with a bell button? (Which one?) Sounds interesting.

I'm neither trying to knock it for others; I just prefer long-term solutions and like to be the free owner of my own goods. That's where FOSS is all about. :) -- EL

That assumes a doorbell wiring though. Inside say an office building that might not be there but POE might be so I can see the advantage. I wonder if there are any POE -> 10-20V AC converters? Wouldn't cover the network part though. A POE AP to talk to the doorbot might be overkill. ;) On 19 November 2013 18:05, Brian West <brian@freeswitch.org> wrote:

Also given that it accepts 5V DC @ 500mA a POE adapter'd be much simpler than needing a DC->AC conversion. On 20 November 2013 22:03, Steven Ayre <steveayre@gmail.com> wrote:
Although given they claim 1 year of battery life perhaps it's not needed. :)

That assumes a doorbell wiring though. Inside say an office building that might not be there but POE might be so I can see the advantage.
I wonder if there are any POE -> 10-20V AC converters?
Wouldn't cover the network part though. A POE AP to talk to the doorbot might be overkill. ;)

I’m not so worried about PoE, Its wifi and powered over the existing doorbell AC power supply and can still ring your existing doorbell in addition to calling you. If you used the link I gave you’ll get 10 dollars off and I’ll get 10 dollars back! :) I would love to see if they are using SIP on the back side… I’ll be packet tracing it when Its installed…

I wonder if we could convince them to open this thing up for SIP? Its cheaper than the N2 video door intercoms…
