Struggling with installing.
Hello, I am new to FreeSWITCH email group. I am having some issues, so I apologize if this issue is old history. If it is, please help direct me to the appropriate archive that I may look up the information. I am having an issue with installing FreeSWITCH on my MacMini OS X 10.6.4. I have purchased the book on FreeSWITCH to help wrap my brain around it. I am following the install instructions and it says to modify the "modules.config", which I have to include flite. The problem is that I keep getting these errors and I don't know how to resolve the error. This is what it says when I use the command "sudo make": (extra info deleted for brevity) /usr/include/unistd.h:495: error: conflicting types for ‘swab’ /usr/include/string.h:137: error: previous declaration of ‘swab’ was here make[7]: *** [find_sts_main.o] Error 1 make[6]: *** [build/i386-darwin10.4.0/obj//.make_build_dirs] Error 2 make[5]: *** [/usr/local/freeswitch-1.0.6/libs/flite-1.3.99/build/libs/libflite_cmu_us_awb.a] Error 2 make[4]: *** [all] Error 1 make[3]: *** [mod_flite-all] Error 1 make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 And then it ends the "sudo make" command. Can some one please help? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I am in the same boat, new to FreeSwitch, setup first on an old Linux box (going pretty well), with plans to go Mac Mini. I tried to install on OSX and first got the MOD_SPANDSP missing issue. Since I could not find a way to install that on OSX I took it out of the modules.conf to see how far I would get, thinking it's only for fax? But then I got the same error for flite you have below. Hopefully someone here may have already been through this and will shed some light on it. I am working on it right now and if I find anything I will post. On 09/23/10 22:51, Peter Schrock wrote:

This may help someone install FS (git version) on osx 10.6.4 as of Sep 2010. Once you have downloaded (I used git): 1. Modify modules.conf to comment mod_spandsp. I think this is only for fax. Although I downloaded SPANDSP 0.0.6, it required LIBTIFF which I could not figure out how to install. No fax for now. 2. cp /usr/include/string.h /freeswitch/libs/flite-1.3.99/include This is what is causing flite to fail during make. See these: http://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/festlang-talk/2008-June/001043.html http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/mpanning/OSX.html 3. CD to /freeswitch/libs/flite-1.3.99/include 4. chmod +rw+rw+rw string.h So you can update the file. 5. Edit (in xCode) string.h, find "swab" and change line: void swab(const void * __restrict, void * __restrict, ssize_t); to (comment the line): /*void swab(const void * __restrict, void * __restrict, ssize_t);*/ 6. CD /freeswitch 7. Follow normal install instructions (bootstrap, config). 8. MAKE 9. SUDO MAKE INSTALL <- SUDO was required for this I tested on one phone and the demo IVR worked so I am thinking it is ok. On 09/24/10 10:09, Brian West wrote:

Hi Mario, Your installation procedure is truly bizarre. Appropriate versions of LibTIFF and spandsp are in FreeSwitch. Why are you downloading versions from elsewhere? On other platforms these versions are built and installed automatically, as part of the standard FreeSwitch build sequence. I have no idea why they are not building for you. Without the bizarre I would have no working Freeswitch on osx. That is what it took to install on osx, without the extra steps FreeSwitch had problems with missing SPANDSP which itself had prerequisites. If they were supposed to be in FS they did not work on osx 10.6.4. The original poster found this helpful which is why I posted it, until something changes in the FS install for osx this is what you need. On 09/25/10 09:08, Steve Underwood wrote:

All I did was change the string.h code and it build for me, seems like there are superfluous steps. Just change the code. On Sep 25, 2010, at 9:08 AM, Steve Underwood <steveu@coppice.org> wrote:

Since David Ponzone says we need SPANDSP I struggled through it on osx 10.6.4. It took a lot of searching and trial and error. B. Download FreeSwitch using the online instructions or the book.

However, I am having issues with fs_cli now. I tried to do the ln -s code to create an "alias", but unless I am in the /bin directory, just typing fs_cli does not work with FS running in the background. Peter, what version of osx and xCode are you on to get such a clean install? I have 10.6.4 and downloaded xCode 3.2.4 a few hours before I downloaded the FS git which was Thursday. So I had the latest of both. It took until Saturday to get a clean compile due to the problems below. BTW, this was testing on an iMac but I plan to move it to a Mac Mini after I am done finalizing on the Linux box.. On 09/26/2010 12:12 AM, Peter Schrock wrote:
